I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

Someone kill me, Please.

But seriously. Pretty weird, boys and girls. I remember when i posted an insanely embarrassing 4 year birthday thread completely kissing this communities butt and saying it was the best thing that had ever happened to me.

....Still true anyways.

I don't know what the point of birthday threads are anymore. They're just one of those things where people stand on a box and speak of the past/future. So many stupid ideas go through my head every day on how this website could be improved/destroyed... so hell. I guess i could just throw some out right here.

1. More spotlight on private groups
Why not add a bar above the facebook/twitter/jobs tab with a link to the front page of a random group? Group cycles once a week. Applications submitted to one of the two active community guys. Maybe a thread/group dedicated to archive the list.

2. Carpet Bans
I feel like these should happen more often. Too many people reply to spam with spam, creating a massive spam ball that takes up space. People know what they should/shouldn't reply to, so why is the OP banned while everyone else gets off scott free? Not to mention, Replying to a spam thread with 'reported' is just as spammy as the OP. Warnings would be cool.

3. Thread Locks based on Reports
Fairly often there are threads linking people to gore sites, blah blah blah, whatever. Maybe a ratio of replies to reports could be made so the baddest of the bad could be auto locked. If threads are auto locked by mistake, contact a mod. I feel the post collapse feature does the job to an extent, but things could go further. Especially when there isn't a mod on duty or whatever

4. Whaaaaaambulance
Random crappy thought- Why not have a Whaaaaambulance thread linked to the rules? A lot of people complain constantly about the rules being too obscure and getting punished for things they didn't think would be against the rules. The Whaaaambulance thread would be a small community source to see who was punished for what, AKA if you are questioning something you're about to post, see if someone else was banned/warned for it or whatever. While some can see this as just being a Mod Hate Wagon... hell, that's what the Whaaaaambulance is, right?

5. Bungie Store
The Bungie Store in its current state is decent, but the current collection of items could use a looking at. Tons of T-shirts, Not enough Jackets, Flannels, other things. Tons of threads floating around in the abyss asking for these sorts of things, and more.

6. Not enough people calling me out on my -blam!-.
With age comes stupidity. I admit, fairly often i'm a jerk to younger members. Sometimes i see it as a way of spanking the freshman and teaching them the ropes. Other times, i see spartanbarbies posting things that are honestly ridiculous, calling them out on it, but being too harsh. Honestly, community, report people more. I need more slaps on the hand/butt from Qbix, anyways.

This community is great. You guys are full of ideas, and it's fun to see the random diamonds amongst dirt, gravel and stone. Don't let yourselves fall into the cycle of 'Bungie dark, mods suck, more rules, bungie dark'. Imagine things. Post theories. Reach for the stars.

...i'm not going to end on that lame bullcrap.

I think i'll end on this. Naw, how about.... this?

Wait, no. This. *tears come to eyes*

Can't thank you enough, Bungie. You've given me some great games. Can't thank you enough, Community. You've kept me coming back almost every day for the past 7 years.

Now i can finally drunk post. ---legally---

Much love,
DMG04

Rest in Peace, DP. I'll hammer a few for you too, bro.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Your 2 days early buddy. :p

This community is fun but people need to learn to be nicer to fellow members.

Sorry for posting 1 day, 5 hours and 23 minutes early. I will not have an internet connection on my Bnet birthday. Today, however, is my 21st birthday. I see my birthday and my Bnet birthday as one in the same, as they're so close together.

Also, Ken, Refer to Number 6. I admit to being hard on you sometimes, but lol. I can't tell if you're trolling half the time or if you just don't understand anything that's happening... anywhere.

Naw dud I am just joking, happy 7 years and 21st Birthday. It makes you wonder what this site will look like 7 years from now. It seems to change so fast.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Salutations my friend. May the Night Mother watch over us all.

Have a great night out, and don't wake up with someone you don't know!

You don't want to give the community the green light to come after you. In fact, I don't think you want to give the community the yellow light to come after you. If most people spell as well as they drive, you might just want to stay off the roads completely. Especially if you're gonna "start" drinking.

Birthday Disclaimer: Cab drivers make a living ripping off drunk people. Know where you're going.

Enjoy your 21st

It's safe to assume by 2016 that either I will be dead from drinking too much, or dead drinking too little

Is it just me or have there been a lot of these lately? Actually I think I was just flipping through some old posts... I don't know.

Regardless happy 21st.

I read the OP and thought you had actually calculated that you've spent 61,360.6894 hours on BNet and I had a prepared insult and everything... But I was pleasantly surprised to see a well written, comprehensive "State of the BNet" type post.

Well done.

  • 11.25.2011 9:08 PM PDT

Did not expect a thread with a subject such as this to turn out to be something like this.

Good ideas either way, but I could agree that I've spent a large chunk of my time here on this website. It's strange how it keeps you wanting to stay. It could be considered an internet home.

Never curse a failure. Learn from your mistakes so that if you are lucky enough to get a second chance, you can avoid repeating the same mistakes. And have a greater outcome.

I was seriously considering making a thread on this.

My original idea is a little complicated but an easier and more efficient method would to "auto-lock" a thread if it reaches 10 (or 15) reports. When it achieves 5 (or 10), a message would be sent to a moderator for review (or however it normally works).

I am a Floodian

Yeah, not quite at 7 yet. 7 seems to be the number people post these nice big life-stories and shiny website ideas. I'll have to make sure mine is appropriately forgettable.

I do like your idea for threads getting locked based on a reports:reply ratio.
