Why is this such as issue with so many people? I mean, is it really that hard to know where somewhere goes? I find much of my time on these forums Forum Copping.

I find so many Halo: Reach related threads in the Community forums or in the Universe forums, and most of the replies to me directing them to the right forums are something like, "well it is about Halo, and this is a community" or "but this is the Halo Universe, so it goes here".

I am not trying to complain, but I think that when I new user joins Bungie.net, they should get some welcoming message linking them to the Forum Rules, or directing on how the forums work. I am aware that you do agree with a privacy statement when you first joined, but who actually read that? I know that I did not due to the huge amount of text that had to be read.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

It's a common issue because many people are not regulars to the forum; they're not going to spend 15 minutes reading the rules or making sure which forum to post in, they want their question answered or their comment said. This forum in particular, titled "Bungie community forum," is unfortunately a false-indicator that this board is to communicate directly with Bungie; which in a sense it is, however the questions asked are usually off-topic and redundant. It appears the notification on the top of every post is working, however it could do much more.

Subject: Posting Into The Wrong Forums

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I have several theories.

1. ignorance- some people know they are posting in the wrong forum and just want attention. Like for clans and what not, they believe the classifieds are dead and don't use the forum but ironically if they did use it, it would be a lot more active.

2. knowledge- some people don't know they are in the wrong forum. (but taking 4 seconds of seeing Bungie is not in charge of Halo and forum description should help more people).

3. accidental- it happens, I have accidently posted a flood thread here before.

1. You really shouldn't complain about how annoying it is that you're constantly forum copping when you could very easily just not forum cop.

2. Stop worrying.

3. The privacy statement has absolutely nothing to do with posting in the right forum at all in any way whatsoever, and never will.

I am not exactly complaining. As annoying as it is, I only forum cop to help out users and to point them into the right direction so that they can easily dodge a warning or ban in the mear future.

I am not worrying, I am just stating how much of a problem it is.

I know that the Privacy Statements has nothing to do with the forums, but you do agree to many things related to Bungie.net. I have no clue what that includes considering the fact that I never actually read it.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I assume anyone posting to the wrong forum is new, since its a pretty simple and universal concept. When you give people the benefit of the doubt, its easier to help them for future reference.

You would be surprised, some people posting here in the wrong forums have been here for like longer than me or a few months/1 year.

Yes, most of the users who post in the wrong forums are either new, or new to the forums. If they are not new to the forums, it is usually a case of accidently posting into the wrong forums, which many people in this case do.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

They don't spend an easy 10 minutes reading the rules or they just don't attempt to read the message above:

Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe. While our Halo-related forums and stats remain available, be advised that "official" answers and support about the Halo Universe (past, present, or future) are not.

Protip: Replying to an off-topic thread, even with information about where it should be placed, merely serves to keep it amongst the on-topic threads at the top of the forum. If you really care about helping out and keeping the forum clean, you should aim to provide the same information via PM instead.

And similarly, replying to a thread and stating that you don't want to see it/are annoyed by it is hypocritical because of the reason above.

But if I don't do it in public where everyone can see me, how will the ninjas see it? They have to see it so they can like me more and so they will make me a forum ninja. That how work, yes?

Go visit the Whaaaaambulance group. With the amount of nonsensical personal messages the ninja's get, it would put you off being a ninja for life bro.

OT: people make mistakes. Whether they are new or been here a while. Hell, I've had 4+ browsers open and posted in the wrong forums too. It happens. Report and move on.

So even if I were to simply point someone to a more appropriate forum, because I am posting in the thread, it might be a reason for a moderator to ban?

That's not what I said.

I am merely noting that if people care enough about the forum "ecosystem", they wouldn't post/bump off-topic threads when other methods of doing what you want to do exist.

This is not a point of view I hold as a moderator.

A lot of the time I'm fast enough to give the answer within mere minutes of it being posted, while it's still at the top of the forum. Better to provide an accurate public answer for the person than to send a PM and leave it open for someone else to assume they haven't been redirected.

If it's halfway down the page and has no replies...there's not much point in bumping it, like you said. I tend not to reply to them with just "wrong forum" anyway. I'll often try to give an answer as best I can so that they don't have to post the thread again. Though sometimes I've seen people totally misunderstand that.

Anyway, your thought about ecosystem is a valid and ideal one, but ultimately it's not realistic, since people don't know what information has been passed to the user through PM and so someone is likely to be like "oh nobody helped this poor soul"...so really, the problem ends up existing anyway.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

I agree. Permanent bans for anyone who posts in the incorrect forum! That'll get people to think twice.

The thing is, it won't. Why? Because most people who incorrectly forum post are first timers, or they haven't posted in a long period of time.

I remember my first time posting on these forums. I had absolutely no clue what the hell I was supposed to be posting and where. I posted in the incorrect forums - where other users assisted me - and soon enough I became an A-grade postaholic.

Most first timers learn from their mistakes. All a more experienced user has to do is either: ignore the thread altogether, or tell the user where is the correct place to post a topic.

The real question is, is it that hard to avoid being a "forum cop" to these posts? If you don't post it will either fall off the front page or a mod will deal with it and the OP will get the idea.

Everyone's human right? I know that when it happens more than twice that it's just stupidity taking over, or laziness. But maybe some slack needs to be given to these n00bies. I want these forums to be clean as much as anyone else, and I've made mistakes posting into the wrong forums. It's the most annoying thing to see someone type "wrong forum", instead just don't post in that thread.
