But, the anniversary maps suck competitively. Most Halo CE maps sucked.

Damnation is an atrocity of a map and the team that spawns up high has a huge advantage.

Prisoner was always one of my least favorite maps, but now with jet pack it is retarded on a level close to Orbital from Halo 3.

Hang 'Em High is pretty awful too. No one ever leaves there base because you get team-shot immediately if you step foot on any of the walkways.

Battle Creek is the only map that can be considered not terrible. And that is only because it is symmetrical.

You Halo CE fans need to relax. Halo 2 and Halo 3 had much better maps and it would have been better to get some of those gems remade. Just saying.

I am a CE fanboy, but Reach's style of gameplay is more that of H3 than CE, so I'm going to have to agree with you. In defense of CE, the pistol wasn't hitscan, so it wasn't a total mini-sniper.

Plus in CE, the pistol was 3 to the head, while in CEA it's 2 body/1 headshot for a kill, shortening kill times.

Well Prisoner was always a 1v1 and 2v2 map. 4v4 doesn't work well on that, especially not with default Reach settings.

Damnation worked a lot better when powerups and weapons could be grenaded around the map. Again it was good for 2v2.

Hang 'em High, again whenever you look up old competitive footage it was mostly used for 2v2s.

Battle Creek isn't technically symmetrical; Red team's access to the arch and Rockets is notably easier than that of Blue team. The sides do have a few other features that balance them out though.


All that said and done I'd still prefer any of these maps to Guardian, The Pit (it might have been competitive, but it was really boring to watch high level gameplay on this map), Orbital etc

The CE maps that we didn't get were either terrible (Boarding Action & Chiron TL-34), were already remade (Chill Out/Cold Storage, Sidewinder/Avalanche) in Halo 3, or are easily forged (Rat Race, Wizard, Longest etc).

It also goes without saying that Reach's mechanics are closer to Halo 2 (primarily hitscan) than Halo CE, so maps like HeH which only worked because of the Pistol won't work well in Reach without major forge tweaking.

Out of all those maps Wizard is the only good one competitively. I personally like Longest/Elongation, but I will admit it is also not a good competitive map.

Which we are agreed on. Unfortunately they were popular amongst the majority of players.

I was using bad examples from Halo 3 to compare with the bad examples from CE.

@ Goat: Derelict has been forged pretty well. And again I think it doesn't work with the Reach sandbox. Killtimes are too slow, and the lack of telefragging makes top control too easy. Like Whale says below, all it has going for it is teamshot; movement is poor due to the restrictive routes from bottom to top.

Terminal was everyone's favorite because of the train and nostalgia, but it like most asymmetrical maps, was bad competitively.
