Well Prisoner was always a 1v1 and 2v2 map. 4v4 doesn't work well on that, especially not with default Reach settings.
Damnation worked a lot better when powerups and weapons could be grenaded around the map. Again it was good for 2v2.
Hang 'em High, again whenever you look up old competitive footage it was mostly used for 2v2s.
Battle Creek isn't technically symmetrical; Red team's access to the arch and Rockets is notably easier than that of Blue team. The sides do have a few other features that balance them out though.
All that said and done I'd still prefer any of these maps to Guardian, The Pit (it might have been competitive, but it was really boring to watch high level gameplay on this map), Orbital etc
The CE maps that we didn't get were either terrible (Boarding Action & Chiron TL-34), were already remade (Chill Out/Cold Storage, Sidewinder/Avalanche) in Halo 3, or are easily forged (Rat Race, Wizard, Longest etc).
It also goes without saying that Reach's mechanics are closer to Halo 2 (primarily hitscan) than Halo CE, so maps like HeH which only worked because of the Pistol won't work well in Reach without major forge tweaking.
