If you tell me to go to a webite I won't go to it but I'll chat with you my B.net Profile or over Xbox Live accout which it is emosteg2tog(got2getsome) if you can't read it is got-2-get-some.

What would be the best gaming college to go to or what degree would be best for me if I wanted to be game developer/programmer?
Please don't comment if you think this is a stupid question. Anything answers would be helpful, but preferred if you have gone to college and obtained a job in the gaming industry.

Okay i have looked into so many game schools and the suck, but i have also been looking into computer science programs and seem to like the better. So i definitely was thinking of university but my question was meant for possible universities. sorry for the long out of order paragraph im just so tired.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Get a degree in Computer Science instead.

Most universities offer degrees in computer science. I'm planning on attending Humboldt State University.

Goggling really is the new thing, huh?

OT: Just look it up on the Internet, ask your parents, or some fellow nerds (competent nerds, because that's what we aren't).

Well when making this decision take into account cost.

Here in canada i go to university of calgary, with a fee of around 10000 dollars per year. Max.

Though i do notknow how it is in america.

I do advise find a university with a coop program. Trust me its worth it, you could end up with a beuty of a resume and alot of cash coming graduating

Co-op program
you study and work in yout field of study. Mainly your semester is divided into study and work.

Plus the university will jelp you get hired, usually most give it in your second year, though one waterloo gives it in engineering for all four years.

Checkit out and research in it.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

You really need to be specific about what particular job in game design you'd like to partake in. Do you want to be an engineer? Programmer? Concept artist?

I can't give you specifics right here and now considering my little knowledge in the matter, but you can look at the jobs page here on Bungie.net.

Don't go in wanting to program weapons, or something like that. Your first job very well may be (and most likely will be) not at Bungie, and even more likely not working on a game containing weapons of any kind.

Also, say you do start to work for Bungie... I don't think they have any titles open for "Weapon Damage Programmer". Just don't get in your head that that's what you're going to do. That kind of stuff sounds super cool on paper, but will most likely not be the brunt or even close to half of your work.

Go in with a clear mind; an open mind. Go in to be a programmer or computing engineer. Don't go in to do THIS sub-job of a programmer. And if you really want to be a programmer, be a programmer. But, there is a chance you won't even be a programmer in the gaming industry, but rather for some other company and industry entirely.

I'm not trying to crush your dreams or anything here, I'm just suggesting a moment of reflection. Don't go into the gaming industry to go into the gaming industry. Go into the gaming industry (as a programmer or engineer) because you like being a programmer and/or engineer and it's also an industry you happen to wish to work in.

Just as a disclaimer: I have absolutely no first-hand knowledge of the goings on of the programming job market, the gaming industry from a business standpoint, or programming/engineering. This is just off-the-cuff, logic-based advice.

The best thing to do, assuming you know you want to be a programmer, would be to go to college for a computer science degree, like a few people have mentioned.

But if you're looking for a game specific school, here is what Princeton Review had to say:

1. University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA)
2. University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT)
3. DigiPen Institute of Technology (Redmond, WA)
4. The Art Institute of Vancouver (Vancouver, BC, Canada)
5. Michigan State University (East Lansing, MI)
6. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA)
7. Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA)
8. Champlain College (Burlington, VT)
9. Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY)
10. Becker College (Worcester, MA)

Honorable Mentions:
Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA), North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY), Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, GA) and Shawnee State University (Portsmouth, OH).

OP, you're looking for Sandbox Engineer. You may have heard of him, but JonnyOThan is the Sandbox Engineer Extraordinaire at Bungie. I'm not sure what college he went to, but I would suggest shooting him a PM to ask him this question, rather than posting it here.

Feel free to read up on his Breaking In Article, as well. :)

Nice grab, DI:

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

I'm currently studying Computer Science at my college. If you want to work in game design or programming, Computer Science is definitely a good route to go. Many games today are written in the C language. Therefore, a degree with Computer Science can get your foot into the door. Some of those "gaming colleges" suck, so a degree from a real university would look better.

Also, if you're interested in Computer Science, take the software route instead of the IT side. Best of luck!

Getting a degree is CS would be better, but if you really want to go to a gaming college, I heard DigiPen is a good school.

DigiPen is awesome. I have a few friends who have landed excellent jobs right out of that place, and several are at Bungie. It's expensive, there are no dorms, and it's very intense. The freshman classes quickly shrink, because the course is so intense. But I would say that its worth it.

Xbox Ambassador: Feel free to ask any questions you might have about a Xbox issue in a PM to me. I may be able to help!

I would probably say Digipen or Full Sail University.

My friend who's cousin works there as a Artist I believe...told me he cousin went to study at Digipen, and now he has been working there for a long time now.

Also, I've heard rumors that those who have gotten hired at different gaming industries that went to Full Sail, crash and burn in the gaming industry. I don't believe in that at all, there have been some amazing people that came from Full Sail to Bungie.

So, in short I would say Full Sail or Digipen.
