Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

The Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol
Evolutions
Crytum
Glasslands
Primodorium (coming January)

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

I would recommend that you read them in release order rather than chronological order. The franchise has changed quite a bit recently, and this will let you see how. Anyway:

The Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol

That is the essential block really. The next stuff can be read in any order really, as they are all pretty separate from one another and deal with different time periods.

Evolutions
Cryptum
Glasslands

If you really want the chronological order then just put Contact Harvest and then The Cole Protocol, in that order, before the Fall of Reach, and then stick Glasslands after Ghosts of Onyx. Cryptum is so far displaced from the "recent" storyline that it does not matter, and Evolutions is an anthology spanning the entire Human-Covenant war.

"So- So this means Im just going to be miserable for the rest of time?!"

"No. This means that you have to live life to the fullest. You have one life, live it well. Make sure you die without regrets. Get a new life, new mate, new family. You, out of all people, don't deserve a terrible fate of misery like that. Having nothing to look forward to is good. It makes sure you want to keep on going. Living is a right, not a privilege."
