Subject: How's Halo PC and CE multiplayer doing these days?

I haven't played in a long while, and in that time I had to replace my hard drive. So, I haven't gotten around to reinstalling Halo PC yet, and I'm wondering if it's worth it right now.

The Anniversary maps kind of made me want to play again, especially since they put the overpowered pistol in that playlist. But then I remembered how bad the netcode was and how the servers were pretty crappy the last time I played. So how is it?

Also, if I remember correctly, the Custom Edition multiplayer was pretty sad the last time I was on it.

Stupid ass washing machine...

I play on a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop which is basically on it's last legs and I had some great games last night.

I hadn't played it in a while and like you felt enticed by the Anniversary maps (the game of which I am getting at Xmas), so decided to spend a couple hours on it. Very little lag provided you stick to respectable servers, lots of fun.

My own little tip to test the lag (considering I don't have a bloody clue what "ping" is) is to fire a short AR burst and then reload at the start of the match. Depending on how smooth the reload is, the game is either going to be laggy or not.

Pretty simple concept. Higher the number is the worse it is. It refers to the amount of time it takes for a "ping" to be sent from your computer, your ISP, the host, back to your ISP, then back to you.

It's pretty much still thriving on PC-- at least the standard version-- I can't personally say how Custom Edition has fared. There are servers full on every day of the week, even this many years after the game became pretty much obsolete when compared to the newer iterations of the series. Most servers run either sniper match mods, jerry-rigged zombie modes, or stunting/showoff stuff, but there is still stimulating gameplay to be had. I know of one server in particular that is pretty fun if you like going for splatterkills: it's listed as BUMPERCARZ PARTY PLAY PASS OUT (the number and/or placement of the spaces may be variable) and it's been modded so that you spawn with no weapons (even has the same targeting rectile as when you first exit the cryotube on the Autumn) and the Warthogs' turrets have no ammo-- it's essentially the perfect playground for having a Demolition Derby.
