:)

And with the release of Halo CEA, I've noticed that people are saying that the rings don't kill Flood, just because of what Cortana says in the Control Room.

But this is incorrect, no? It has been proven that the rings kill the flood and all other sentient life - an example that comes to mind is within the Halo 3 terminals.

Just wanting to know if I'm incorrect or they are.

Yeah it seems that way despite Cortana saying it kills the Floods food sources. We've seen a lot of demonstrations of the Halo effect scouring Forerunner installations clean from heavy Flood infestations.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

The rings are designed to kill all sentient life in the galaxy, ie. the floods food source. If you take away their food, they all die.

It's a bit of a grey area i suppose. They either kill the flood directly or indirectly.

This.

I guess Cortana wasn't fully aware of how Halo worked yet. We've seen the Halos kill Flood multiple times now, so it seems the Halos are perfectly capable of killing Flood (as well as their food).

@ OP:
Just curious: was it on Waypoint, that discussion? Because those forums are generally filled with retards...

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of Murphy's Laws on the StarShip Enterprise

It would kill a Gravemind, but not all the flood, since the Halo rings actually destry neural cells

  • 11.27.2011 3:12 AM PDT

If that is the case, than that sorts out the Cortana confusion as well:
Halo kills Flood....the Flood we see (Graveminds, Combat forms, Carriers, Infection forms, Pure forms) but not the spores.
So in a way Cortana was right: it kills the Flood's "food" (and their physical forms) but not the real threat: the spores.

Forger for Life!!
Have every single Halo including CEA :) love Bungie and 343. will always trust them to do an amazing job like that have.
Love halo and cant wait to see what they do in the next 10 amazing years :)
cheers bungie and 343

Halo is designed to kill the floods food source starving them to death, 7 or 8 halo rings cover this part of the galaxy, however in the activation of the ring, it would kill all flood on the ring and possibly around it.

it would then also kill all sentient life in the galaxy it reaches as i said :) hope that helps
Get halo books for a great read, off topic

Okaay. Yeah, that's what I thought. :)

aand yes! haha. I was being told by several people that it didn't kill flood. When I told them that we've seen that the pulse can in fact kill Flood, they just brought up the line from Cortana in AotCR...

One of the reasons I'm not nearly as active on Waypoint as I am here ;) The people who "claim autority" there generally have subpar knowledge of the Universe in my opinion. But you just can't go into a discussion with them...

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Well, Halo's are said to kill all sentient beings, thus the Flood food starving them to death. I'd imagine it dosent kill the smaller forms since they have no reunited intelligence, and are completely dependent on the Gravemind.

While other much bigger Flood forms are killed since they have the sufficient mass to concentrate it's own intelligence, thus becoming sentient and getting killed by Halo effect. It'd be the only explanation since we've seen Flood forms (big ones) be cleansed by the firing.

  • 11.27.2011 5:39 AM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

The Halo rings make no distinction between The Flood and their food source. In short, the firing of the Halo array not only kills all The Flood, but also wipes the galaxy clean of any life forms that The Flood could consume. Animals for example would be killed, while plants would remain.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I was under the impression that the Halos affect all of the Flood albeit pure forms and Gravemind(s).

Halo Legends is pretty much non-canon.

No, despite the Forerunner's massive resources, they could not kill that single species. But they were able to create 12 gigantic freaking rings that would kill every other species in the galaxy. Honestly, why they didn't make a weapon that locked onto the Flood Super Cell is beyond me.

Hardly.

Legends is as much canon as any of the books and games are. Dispite the creative licensing the Japs took with it.

YOU can't decide what's canon or not. What you personally like or dislike in the canon-library doesn't matter at all. Legends is official Halo canon, no matter what you think.

Which the flood uses to controll a body.
If it kills neural cells then the flood cannot controll the body and dies.

I thought it was hilarious.

OT: Halo kills both the Flood and it's Food.
If any Flood somehow survive, they won't be able to feed and eventually die out.

So in a way Cortana was right: it kills the Flood's "food" (and their physical forms) but not the real threat: the spores.

We see the Flood structures (Which we can hypothesise are made up of Flood Super Cells) on existing Forerunner structures get destroyed when the array is activated.

If the pulse can wipe these infestations, then it can certainly cleanse the spores, which are made of the same thing.

The wiping of the Halo array you see in the Terminals is only an abstract representation of what the rings are supposed to do.

Otherwise, the whole revelation Cortana comes out with is pointless because it would be wrong.

Just because they also kill flood forms doesn't mean that Cortana was necessarily wrong. We never see the Array killing Pure Flood forms, to my knowledge, only forms made from their "food" that being sentient races that have been absorbed and turned into impure flood forms. So it makes sense that they would be destroyed by the Halo's pulse, because those flood forms are made of what they were designed to destroy, "their food".
