It's ok but it can drag compared to the other Halo books.

I feel like this is being tossed around more than it should be and that it all depends on the reader.

Personally i had an extremely hard time reading contact harvest. I found myself skipping the UNSC parts just to read the covenant side of the story. Cole Protocol was a dull read for me also yet this is the first time any of you have seen me state so.

Let the person make up their own judgement on the book.

Which part He wrong about? because i saw the Article on Karen's site stating that she rebuilds people from the ground up on how she thinks they should act.

It was not related to the story really, but a counter-claim made about the authors writing practices, and a little bit with respect to the Sangheili side story. Not the Halsey/Mendez parts or the Spartans.

Yeah I agree it depends on the reader. I liked Contact Harvest but the Cole Protocal got boring at some points.

"May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't."
-- General George S. Patton

I am merely a soldier in the massive army commonly known as the Internet.

It depends on if you've read the other Halo books. For me, the writing styles of Eric Nylund and the other Halo authors, while different from each other, all seemed to "fit" together, and as such I began to associate that as part of the essence of a Halo novel. Because of this, when I read Cryptum, it felt so different that it almost seemed "wrong" to me and as a result the enjoyment I got out of it was noticeably lessened. The book still has its high points, so i'm going to give it another chance when the next in the series comes out, but I must admit i'm more excited for the sequel to Halo:Glasslands than I am for the next book in the Cryptum Saga.

There is only one major "action" scene in the entire novel, but it's fine because the book is just so interesting. It completely changes your perception of things and twists the Forerunners into a species you wouldn't of expected them to be. But it's by no means a "bad" transformation.

SPOILERS

And it was the most epic action scene of the Halo novels. Just imagining the Falco trying to get to the portal whilst the entire Forerunner fleet engages Mendicant Bias with the Halos trying to escape was pulse-pounding to read.

END SPOILERS

It's definitely worth buying, not only does it shed a whole new light on your view of the Halo series it provides a deeply immersive character-driven storyline and is definitely the best of the Halo novels.

That whole scene was pretty amazing to envision. When it all started going down, I was so gripped. The other, less major, action scenes in the book were also pretty incredible.

It is a slower paced novel, but I loved all the revelations and deeper understanding of the Forerunner species. It was truly like reading a whole new era of the franchise. I sometimes forgot I was reading a Halo novel, tbh (until familiar terms were used). It's a book of intrigue, wonder; and grandeur. I can't wait for Primordium.

Cryptum is probably my favorite Halo novel. It starts off really slow, but once chapter 3 hits you'll get sucked right in and not want to put the novel down.

If Forerunners interest you, this book is for you.

Question is, if getting to know the Forerunners more intimately will dispense too much of the mystery associated with them....(this is bad IMO)

I feel like The Precursors are essentially replacing The Forerunners in that respect.

"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

The Forerunners didn't lost their mystery feel...even with Cryptum.

One of the main things in the Halo universe that gave the Foreruners that mystery feel wasn't just the lack of info on them, it were the environments and Forerunner architecture that trully gave us that.It looks ancient, alien, epic and highly advanced at the same time.

Now those things screamed mystery.Walking around their structures on Halo or other Forerunner world always gave us that feel of mystery and it awes us.

Tell me did that feeling dissapeared with Cryptum?I think not.

People are still awed with the epic looking Forerunnr vistas on Solitary,High Noon and those others maps in the games.Whenever you walk in the hugh halls of the library or under the skybox with the ring above you, it still feels mysterious.

The Forerunners haven't lost that kind of mystery.

Play the games on some random Forerunner level and come back to me.

See you on the battlefield.

Yes, definitely.

Of course, it also helps that Greg Bear is one of my favorite authors ever.

Also, Primordium, the sequel, is coming out January 3.

I checked it out from the library, and I will not buy it. It is good, but I preferred the other novels.

I wasn't even familiar with the Precursors until I just Halopedia'd it, I think I'll pick up Cryptum.

Cryptum is a great novel and moving in the Reclaimer Trilogy, I think its gonna become an essential read. One thing to note, however, is that it is extremely hard to follow if you're not careful, particularly the climatic finale of the book.

Still, read it. Even removed from the Halo brand, it is still fantastic science fiction in my opinion.
