Subject: The most epic covenant ever and why?!

They come now... and they take us... the tide rises.

Typcial. So many people are clueless about Brutes.

You guys do realise that in First Strike, Brutes set up a very effective ambush against a whole TEAM of Spartan-II's (including John, Fred, Grace and Will) and managed to kill Grace and nearly kill John?

That's better than any Elite unit has ever managed in a single engagement...

The Elites have gained the victory over entire colonies outher and inner ... I think the result a little more meaningful than a single ambush... dont you think?

That would imply having a queen speak to every drone in every ship, and that would halt proper use of the ships in question. And even if they could receive orders from the other species without problems, they do not have the authority in the Covenant Hierarchy to actually have pilot privileges, they are just cannon fodder liker Grunts.

Listen, but re-read what you write? And you read the posts of others? I can not waste time this way ... sincere and without offense.

The Elites have gained the victory over entire colonies external and internal ... I think the result a little more meaningful than a single ambush... dont you think?

Let me break apart how the Elites win these "massive victories" over colonies:

- Send in Grunts/Jackals to weaken/distract enemy to hell with minimal Sangheili forces for support
- With the enemy overwhelmed with the lesser troops, send in Elites; but usually these Elites make use of active camoflauge anyway.
- Use Hunters to back them up whenever they encounter heavy resistance (usually when Spartans turn up...)
- After comparatively little fighting by the Elites, they glass the planet.

This isn't to say that the Elites aren't good fighters; they're strong, agile, shielded and just generally adept in combat. But the exaggeration of their combat effectiveness is obvious. When it comes to engagements, a squad of five Elites are not as effective against a Spartan team as a squad of five Brutes. Brutes are just faster, stronger, and generally more dangerous.

Brutes lack in patience, not necessarily tactical awareness. But if you put the Brutes in place of the Elites on most of the engagements down on the ground where Elites were used, you'd probably find Brutes doing the job exactly the same....if not better.

Elites are better as naval commanders.

you understand the meaning of the "best prey is the man"?

It says so because the struggle for victory in a comparison is more difficult to fight against you if there is an individual with your own intellect. It is not the brute strength to win, but intelligence. So I think the Elites are better than the Brute. Although physically Brutes are just higher performance, this does not make them the best.

I do hate the way people underestimate Brutes so much. To call them dumb is ridiculous, if they're dumb, then so are the Jackels and Drones as all three races have reached tier 4.

Well stupid is perhaps too strong a term, I may have overdone it a bit, but do not think they are too intelligent to the contrary. In Bestiarium Brutes are considered the only sentient beings capable of losing a certain level of development, to reach that level again, and fail to learn anything.
