I think this could be another possible privilege.

It would make for an interesting Mythic privilege. As a privilege, it would encourage people to follow the rules.

I agree as a privilege, although not for mythics only, for people who try to follow the rules and are known not for breaking them, true some get banned due to carpet bans.

Though i believe it could work and make more users more friendly. Still believe that the community needs incentive like these to become more friendly, or follow rules.

It would be an okay idea, but it should be for earning a lower rank then mythic, and be non revokable. It should stay even if you lose the rank.

It could be based on behavior. That would separate it from the need for earning a particular rank.

I agree that it should be based on behavior, because if someone is really nice in the forums then they shouldn't have to wait for a title just to get the perk of being able to upload a custom avatar. Most people probably will just use coup though, I hope this could get put in somehow as a way to luring mythics into getting more custom profiles.

-blam!-, that is all.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

How would the site measure niceness though?

True, and activity, also hope they are given by the MODS and Employees.
Still it will be huge amount of work to do.

Still should start at honoarble with more avatars then if 2 years clean then can upload or 1year

Can't be too careful with your company. I can feel the devil walking next to me.

This has been discussed so much... Just leave the people that Achronos personally trusts(moderators) with custom avatars, because even I don't trust the rest of you.

Well for one lack of bans
Overall posts
Years on Bnet
Also if some of the Ninjas know that you are a good person then I think that they should be able to grant permission for user uploaded avatars

I find that offensive!

Who the hell do you think I am?

Do you WANT to look at a bunch of pr0n? Besides, I have coup, so I don't really care.

Still, with all the trolls coming in here it's a bad idea. Just one more thing that the ninjas would have to deal with.

Alright, I guess I will get slightly more involved in this discussion that I had anticipated.

I think that coup handles the -blam!- quite well as I rarely saw any whilst running coup, and I think that if Bungie were to allow users to upload custom avatars that it could be regulated fairly well in terms of offensive content such as -blam!-. However, I feel that problems may arise if users start using images that are not theirs to user (copyright and all that jazz), and then someone might have the audacity to go to Bungie and say "Hey you guys, I don't like this." and then we'd all be given the screw and be back to square one.

So, while I would like the ability to upload my own avatar, I think it would inevitably end to more trouble than it's worth.

I don't think there have ever been copyright issues about using images in internet avatars...

This can be solved with this idea.

The Mods give you the right to do it.
You give a picture you want to upload and then they can decide if they agree or not.
If they agree you get your profile pic. If not you have to give a new one.
Its slow and will be easy to do as it will take time for people to do it. And so it would not be a huge traffic of these requests.

Which is why my main idea is that mods give you the allowance to do it.

You give an idea for your profile pic, and they must accept and then they will edit your profile to add this as your profile pic.

Very good point, and I can't believe I forgot about that as I've been on a forum that used just such a system. I wonder if they would consider implementing this.

Coup looks good bro, colourful.

And why does it matter if it looks professional?

No way man, that's no fair! Everyone or nobody, except for the mods who already can. Maybe it could have a time limit say 14 days so that spammers couldn't make their accounts and begin their spamming spree with a meatspin avatar to match it.

But it definitely shouldn't be limited by rank.
Disagreed on that point.

In my opinion, an account holder needs to demonstrate that they are worthy of being able to have access to such a feature - that they can be trusted with it. They should have to build up that level of trust to a high degree because of the possibility of exploitation with such a feature. In other words, someone who is a longstanding member with a high amount of trust is unlikely to "throw away" their account by uploading something inappropriate, because it [their account] is worth something to them - their account is special because it can do things that other, regular accounts cannot.

Posted by: Xplode441
Isn't that the point of having third-party add-ons? So that people could add features that aren't provided by the site?
Sure, but often they're limited in what they can do, incompatible, poorly created, and/or insecure compared to what the site itself could provide.
