Subject: Would this be a good idea to implement to reporting?

The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

When reporting, you are required to choose an option from a drop down bar a reason for why you're reporting. And there could be an "other" with text box.

Y/N?

But... why?

Pro- reports are more meaningful.

Con- Reporting takes more time.

I vote yes, more people complain that the reports don't do anything than that it's too much effort. Some things could get a post flagged faster (Shock for one) and get them dealt with faster.

Do moderators really need to know what's wrong with the reported post? Shouldn't they be able to tell with their own two eyes?

I'm not sure it'd be effective as a requirement as it may deter lazier folks from reporting due to it taking that bit more effort. Perhaps if it was optional, mainly for use when the reason for reporting might not be too clear.. But really, I think the mods have enough common sense to notice when something is rule-breaking if it does it to enough of a degree to warrant punishment.

The mods have to look at the post and determine for themselves if it is bad or not anyways. So what purpose would it have?

Along with an options "lack of skill" and "failure to spell".

Why specify the reason for it being reported?

If it beaks the rules and is reported, then the ninja acts on it appropriately.

But to specify which rule is being broken is just unnecessary.

So a mod doesn't have to inspect a thread and find nothing wrong because some person simply didn't like OP.

I could still report all of your posts because I (hypothetically) don't like you and cite all of them as 'bypassed the profanity filter'. They would still have to scan all the reports.

How would this stop that? They would just put down reasons. And if you're expecting a moderator to actually go through a bunch of reasons people put down instead of just looking to see if it's bad for themselves, well... then I am disappoint.

I'd like to know if moderators really have a problem with this.

If these same people were given the optionto select a reason, then what is stopping them from abusing the proposed report system? Human decency?

The mod should look into the report reguardless of it being appropriate or not. The whole means if having proof if they intent to place a lock or ban.

Now that I think it over... When a mod gets a reason and looks at a thread, he just uses his own opinion, making the reporter's reason obligatory. In the end the mod is looking at the thread himself.

OKAY THEN LOCK

Sorting and relevancy. You would probably go through all the shock-link reports first if you could, no?

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I've always wanted this, and I think I made a thread back when I was new.
It would let the ninjas get the more important stuff and not complete crap reports.

  • 11.28.2011 5:04 AM PDT

The moderators are smart enough to know the reason why you're reporting.

No. Of course not. Why waste time looking at all the different reasons people put down? If they find something offensive, they report it. It is the moderator's job to determine if it is REALLY that bad or not.

Not to mention how the moderators always complain that the queue is so empty all the time anyways so it isn't exactly worth it to go through all these reasons when I have to look at each myself anyways.

Completely pointless, really.

To me, I don't see it making a difference. When you report, the Mod will review the post anyways and decide himself what to do with the user.

And this information could bias the mods. It might be fairer to just let the mods make the determination.

They have an option bar for why you are reporting someone? Strange, because on my computer, I am not given an option?
