Chances are, the gun would explode in your hand when you fired it..............let's send one of those to davester.

If bullets were propelled by nitro glycerin, then i'm sure the population would decline at a fast pace

I thought nitro glycerin was one of the compounds in the smokeless gunpowder we use today.

No. Nitrocellulose is used in smokeless powder. Trust me, I've worked at a rifle range.

actually, the military is currently experimenting with electromagnetic bullets. way faster and a lot more impact power than a regualr buttlet. the problem is, they take a lot of energy to shoot...

They are. Thay have a large laser built into some sort of cargo plane that can down missiles. Not exactly compact, but hey....

Theyve actually created a laser beam that causes a -blam!- load of pain. that look pretty cool. any other crazy new military weapons gone under research?

Actually, that laser is for use by Special Operations forces, apparently it has the power of bombs and can disable electronics. Now that is what I call an airstrike.

Meh, I'm hoping they'll use caseless rifles in the not-so-distant future. The forerunner in this category is of course the Heckler & Koch G11.

And forget nitroglycerin, octanitrocubane is tens of times more powerful than C4 and even more stable; the only reason they don't use it is because it's expensive and too powerful - it's unlikely you could get away without blowing yourself up.

Actually they don't have it in the plane yet for production, but it is built into ground vehicles to take out air to ground missiles. And yes they are looking into guass cannon technology (again- they had made an experimental rail gun that was pretty efficient quite a while ago, back before color photography, but discontinued research)

That rail gun is being incorporated into the Navy's new battleship which is expected to enter production within a decade. It's called the DD(X). The reason it's so special is because it can reroute the power from its reactor from the engines to the rail gun (yes, it takes that much juice). Still, this rail gun is for long-range bombardments of static ground targets, not for use against enemy ships; the kinetic energy release on impact is similar to that of a small nuclear bomb without the fallout.

They were working on the infamous "rail gun" when I was in highschool. That was 3 years ago for you all.

Actually, railguns were developed way back in the '60s, originally conceptualized as a way to get ore mined on Luna back to Earth...

And no, you should not be scared - at least not of me, I'm a good guy.

i think that they are actually working on a Gauss cannon. the difference is that the gauss cannon uses electromagnetic coils wrapped around the barrel instead of magnets on the barrel's side.

Umm they would go off when you drop them and they wouldnt be much more powerful, and if you give it too much power it will be unaccurate. It's not such a good idea.

My brother said something similar to this post about 4 or 5 days ago, he said: "Dude, can you imagine if you shot a paintball gun with NOS!"
