Subject: Another Viral campaign may come to Bungie.net soon? like ODST...

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I am very excited for what the future will hold for Bungie's next game and I have a feeling soon we will get a taste of it.

The halo ODST viral campaign. About a year before ODST came out, there were several employee made accounts of the "superintendent" that went around the forum posting new info about ODST and references to things that would be in the game and the universe in phrases like "keep it clean".

So far Bungie.net is following a similar pattern to the ODST promotions. We can see hints of "Destiny" everywhere. In scattered pics around the site, vidcocs, etc. Also the fact that Bungie is starting to sell "see you star side" stuff seems to be a way to further generate hype. I doubt Bungie would start selling things for their next {"universe"/"game") without any trailers/promos coming soon. This could be seen on Bungie.net soon.

TL:DR: I think we may soon see a "Destiny" account/accounts on the forums. In addition to more in site Easter eggs.

What do you think?

I doubt it. I would think we still have a long time before we start getting anything along the lines of Destiny information. If they do a viral campaign again, I hope it's the same as 'I Love Bees', that was awesome.

That would be cool.

I am thinking till Bungie's next IP is officially announced we will continue to see more and more bits of "destiny" related info. I am waiting to see some kind of Destiny Mascot (like the Superintendent) begin to post vague statements that will make sense later.

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

I doubt we'll see anything until E3, maybe earlier(April?), and then some hints.

Of course we will. How else would they cause hype about a game we know nothing about?

Possibly, I am on the look out for anything strange. Buingie usually does does fun little things before they announce their game.

Like The Superintendent for example was posting for almost a year (mid 2008-early 2009) on Bungie.net before anyone even knew what ODST was or what Bungie's next game would be about.

Well if that's the case I doubt we wouldn't understand it until after the fact. Most would probably just shrug off what they said as odd.

I'm pretty sure the Superintendent's last post was exactly one year before ODST's release, so the 22nd of September 2008.

OT: I doubt we will see anything much about Bungie's new IP until at least E3.

I am very excited for what the future will hold for Bungie's next game and I have a feeling soon we will get a taste of it.What makes you think that? What gives you that indication?

About a year before ODST came out, there were several employee made accounts of the "superintendent" that went around the forum posting new info about ODST and references to things that would be in the game and the universe in phrases like "keep it clean". Hey! I asked you a question! Why do you think We'll get something soon?!

So far Bungie.net is following a similar pattern to the ODST promotions. We can see hints of "Destiny" everywhere. In scattered pics around the site, vidcocs, etc.Where are these "scattered pics around the site"? Where? Show me one.

I doubt Bungie would start selling things for their next {"universe"/"game") without any trailers/promos coming soon. This could be seen on Bungie.net soon.

Why wouldn't they? Also, they're a company, Ken. They need an appropriate platform to launch their game. The VGAs are not this platform. They're a sad excuse for an award show and even still they have so many other "world premieres" that Destiny wouldn't stand out at all.

The next platform for an announcement is June 2012, which isn't soon at all.

I think we may soon see a "Destiny" account/accounts on the forums. In addition to more in site Easter eggs.Again, where are these in site Easter Eggs? There are none.

Man, I hope they do something similar to ODST. That was a blast and it really brought the community together. . . .something that will be needed after these "dark times".

If they do something like ilovebees or like the 5gum icefly, they could get huge publicity, and get it on tv, maybe some small tv commercials that are just look like nothing or statics with little messages and end with a sites name.

What i mean is an add is coming and halfway through that there is some static and it looks lie the signal is scrambling, it there will be snippets of the former commercial and some other message by bungie, then it ends with static and the sites name to go on (site name will also have static occuring during its name coming on), where there will be a timer.

Anyway for any new info these two sites helped me alot in understanding the basic idea of what we have got from bungie, as of yet.

I hope so, it's always fun to see what confusing things Bungie can come up with just to give us hints about the new game.

random off topic thing: In CEA I've only seen one terminal and it showed forerunners, could the rest mean anything about the new game?

  • 11.28.2011 2:52 PM PDT

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

Is this just a hunch you're going off?

I think it will be a while yet before we start seeing any sort of trailer for their next game.

I hope that's what they do again though.

I doubt we'll see any type of viral campaign before the announcement if we see anything at all. It seems like Bungie's had a lot of trouble in the past with their viral campaigns and dancing around an announcement is harder than just cutting out the middle man and announcing a project.

They don't really need a viral campaign. Teasing seems to be working best for Bungie right now. They get a lot of discussion from within the community and game journalism every time they drop some little hint of what their next game will be.

I'd tend to steer away from countdowns unless they are specifically created by Bungie.
