Subject: The Bungie Community: Re-done.

Dead Mans Hand-Always Loaded.

I WAS SOCK

Lets say Bungie.net was going to go through a big change.

What features would you want added/removed/modified?

Disclaimer:The ideas/suggestions in this thread are simply that. Some of the ideas may be a bit of a stretch, but it doesn't hurt ;)

Ideas:

Bring back Average Joes- Average Joes were great for a multitude of reasons. It let you get to know active members of the community better, or possibly introduce you to members that frequent different parts of bnet. It also gave members a chance to give shout-outs to their favorite private chapters, which is always good ;)

--Add a background to users posts who have had an Average Joe article posted about them.
--Quick example
--Add an option under profile to turn background on or off
--Have a page with a list of all Average Joes, with links to each article

Group Spotlight- I always thought the group spotlight was a great idea, but I think it should be executed a little differently to make it seem more personal. (I'll elaborate on this later)

Group Join Dates- Dates of when each member joined said group in the member list. This could be used for group ranking systems, and give more options for groups to base their ranking system off of.

Group "Tags"- Users could have the option to throw a "tag" in front of their username on bungie.net.This could curb some of the requests to be able to change usernames, would promote groups, and could add some group role privlages.

--Add "Use Group Tag" under Group Role Editor options.
Something along these lines

Quote/Reply Notifications- Self explanatory, something along the lines of your pm notifications, just a small number under your name when you log in would be great.

These are all just things that popped into my head tonight, so they may be presented a little sloppy, but you get the point.

I'll update the OP with ideas from the thread.

So lets hear what you guys would like to see =)

I like the idea of the average joe but the Group Tags is un-needed. But that is just my opinion though.

Average Joes - Yup
Group Spotlight - Yup
Group Tags - Nup

The downside of it looking hella ugly outweighs any benefits.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

You know, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'm not the biggest fan of having an average Joe post background, but everything else sounds spot on.

I'd love to be able to show my group loyalty, although some would neg on it because its extremely similar to cods clan tag system.

This, with the exception of the AJ background. If anything it should be a different title, but I don't even know about that.

I actually included something about that the first time I typed out this post, but then my browser crashed <.<...

My initial version of this thread had a little more content, but I'm far to tired to type it all out again tonight lol. I'll add more tomorrow =D

I would like to see a feature to follow a user, and be notified what he is doing.

That way i can stalk you.

In all fairness, Halo had clans long before CoD. All we have to do is to look back at H2. There may be other ways to add tags, other than a prefix.

I like your ideas, but I would just like to add one more. I would really enjoy something that would notify you if someone responded to your thread or if someone quoted you. I don't like having to go through all of my posts to see if someone replied or not.

Have any of you ever been in 343i's forums? I went in there the other day to see how they worked, as I had just made a profile in June because I felt I should, and many of their features I love.

The PM notification, the buddy list, and the additional formatting options, off of the top of my head, are great features I'd love to see implemented.

If buddy lists were only able to be seen by each individual user, I don't see how it would make it a popularity contest?

I really like the Average Joes idea.

Yes; one's Buddy List can be seen only by themselves. However, I'm sure some people would still go around saying things like "lol i haz 124 buddeez u only has 4" or something, but that still doesn't mean that it's a bad idea.

Eh.

Group tags will probably look pretty bad.

I'd just like to see more Average Joes.

Mythic members are like people with tattoos. Just as soon as you become a Mythic member, you can kick anyone's ass. It really works.

My main qualm is that we'd have to get Lord Snakie to come back just to leave again. Too much work, dawg.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

I personally see this sort of thing happening in the future, if my theory about each of these trademarks being Factions in Bungie's next game is correct. Doesn't seem too cluttered or ugly to me. Could be a lot of fun seeing who's chosen to be a part of what. Of course, the symbols and their respectives names could be something totally else altogether.

I expect posts to look totally different from how they are right now, but this gives an accurate representation of what I'm getting at nonetheless.

Also, I removed my Halo Reach emblem because I have a feeling most, if not all, ties to Halo will be gone by the time Destiny is released.

  • 11.29.2011 3:20 PM PDT

You wouldn't have to use them. Totally optional.
