Subject: Bungie.net reward titles and avatars.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I see talk all the time about privleges and what not so I think I have some ideas to cleanly add them to Bungie.net.

Reward titles- These are titles like "Webcam MVP" that are awarded for a certain users contributation to the forums.
(mind you these are not ther offical names or good ones)

*If Mythic, etc title bar will be blue unless otherwise stated.

- Helpful title- awarded by mods and the webteam for being helpful to new memebers.

- mentor title- going 4 or more years with NO moderation history of any kind.

- Top thread title- awarded for making top threads on the side bar and having them up for long period of time (awarded by
moderation for their helpfulness).

- battle title- hosting events like community carnage, FCAW, and *approved contests that bring the community together. You also will get to be able to write news advertising for the next major event (when that feature is back online) with no needed approval on Bungie.net main homepage. *right can be taken away with a loss in trust.

Privlege avatars- People applicable will get severa new EXCLUSIVE forum avatars for all the above forum ranks.
There is a mentor avatar, Helpful avatar, battle title and Top thread avatar.

Content creators and contest winners wityh good moderation history MAY get the privelege of uploading a (LOW sized) 90 x 90 avatar that is approved by the web team.

This can also be for people who have been here for OVER 7 years with GOOD moderation history over time.

Thoughts, would you like these kinds of awards/privleges?

Good ideas, but I like the simplicity of what we have now.

I agree. It would make the system too complex.

I like your ideas, but making this system might be a little too time consuming for the webteam at the moment. What I mean by time consuming is that the webteam is probably working on more important things for the website and/or for Bungie's new game.

I've never been a fan of such initiatives. First, I feel they are simply too confusing/confounding toward new members. Second, they shift people's posting habits away from honest conversation toward modeling behaviors for what would garner a reward. Moreover, they would simply develop stratification on a bigger scale and escalate conflict much in the same way the Recon armor did in Halo 3.

Rewards are fun, but visible rewards on the site that linger tend to cause more problems than they are worth. I'm also not a fan of forum rewards because new members will become discouraged as they will feel inferior toward others. That should never be the case as we thrive by new members bringing their conversation points to the forum.

A more tangible reward like swag is a better idea, but as with forum rewards, that puts a strain on the company while they're hard at work developing the true reward: their new universe/game.

Why is every idea on this website shot down with this same excuse?

OT: I love the idea of Forum privileges, but that's probably because I'm an achievement whore. We need to be able to unlock Avatars fo' sho'.

Achronos already shared his distaste for the current title system and said we're lucky we still have them for now, as far as I recall. Chances are no new titles will enter the system any time soon. We seem more likely to lose them altogether.

Then again, I may be confusing him with someone else.

The helpful, mentor and battle titles sound too easy to get (I'd be getting the mentor title on my fourth year on the b.net).

It sounds like it'd be fun; but I think that the difficulty to receive the titles need some changing.

This is based on what the moderation team sees. You WON'T see many people with these titles. If someone stands out as being helpful, good, etc they MAY or MAY NOT get a new title for it.

I am trying to make this as simple, easy, and fun as possible.

Although like Revan said Swag would be better. :p

Then it isn't practical or did you just purposely avoid the question entirely?

it is about as practial as titles are now. I don't see the problem in giving new rights and titles to people as a privlege.

I see people ask for privleges all the time on here, I am kind of surprised.

Elaborate further, the current system is automated (as far as I know). How would this be just as practical? What "new rights" would be given?

Get ya popcorn and eat the thickest dick if you think I would waste time lyin to any of u.

Gonna go ahead and say no for this one, ken. The best advice is the advice from people that want to give it out without receiving a reward in the end; they just help because they can. If you tell people they can get a new title (or some other flashy worthless thing that can be taken care of completely with Coup) for helping out, everyone will turn into forum cops and sack riders, and this place won't be fun anymore.

Carpe Diem - Carpe Coffee

Astronomy Picture of the Day!

Posted by: x Lord Revan xAgreed. People will always try to modify their behavior to achieve what is implied to be the better reward, or title in this case. In my opinion, the titles should be a representation of one's natural forum / game habits, not hurdles towards a finish line title in which people actively change their behavior for.

I am really hoping Achronos goes through with his idea from a couple years ago and gears the titles towards Bungie game participation, in which users would be able to pick from a variety of titles relating to their playing styles. This would remove the bulk of people changing their behavior for a title in the forums, since the better title / reward would be completely subjective.

Whisper Game Studios - shhhh, it's a public secret.
Webcam MVP
Sarsion.net
Bnet PM Policy

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

It was known from the very start that Achronos wasn't happy with the idea of the Webcam MVP title (after all, it wasn't earned through contribution, it was earned for winning a simple riddle/question displayed on the Webcams). Mr. Hand had to convince him of it. I can't say if the same is true of Theme Master (w/ Avatar) but I imagine that titles have been a thing of discontent with Achronos for a while.

I believe the only reason I still have my title is purely down to the Web team having more important things to worry about than removing someone's title. I've fully expected to see it disappear everytime there's some sort of title update, but so far nothing. I quite like it. Reminds me of some good times I've had on the site.

But I don't think it's worthwhile adding all those extra ones as you mentioned, for a lot of the reasons Revan mentioned, but also because I suspect that if Achronos wanted to change the current system, he would have done so already. The only thing I can speculate regarding that is that they are currently working hard on a local build of the post-Halo Bungie site. Which is going to be very interesting to see, that's for sure. I believe it's going to either totally remove the title system, leaving only titles and custom avatars for Mods/Employees, or it's going to be totally changed to better suit their next game.

Obviously it's uncertain, and we can't really speculate at this point. I would even go so far as to say that I'm not sure any amount of suggestions on our part will even remotely influence how the Web team is planning on going ahead with things, simply because we don't have the insight.
