Here? No. This is Bungie.net. Why would Bungie.net have a political forum? There are many forums dedicated to political discussion/debate across the 'net.

There is no way those topics could be talked about on that public off-topic forum. I know of a couple private groups though that were made specifically for the discussion of religion, politics, and other things the mains don't permit.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

You can of course suggest rules changes all you want. Bungie will see them if the community is discussing them. That though, does not mean that any of them would ever be implemented.

I'd actually be in favor of relaxing the Flood's rules a bit, in exchange for some more strict rules on other fronts. We should never have religious discussions. They're never even tempered. They ALWAYS end badly. I could see the political issue being discussed in a civil fashion, but only to a degree. It would have to be relegated to theory, or broad current topics. "What do you think of the new Supreme Court Verdict" would probably be okay. "Vote for [insert politician here]" would pretty much always turn bad.

Though, since there are millions of other sites dedicated to that very thing, I certainly don't think its needed here. So I have no strong feelings for letting The Flood discuss "Black Topics". We get by fine without them, and some software developer's off topic forum is not important enough to necessitate any and all discussion.

I would though, hope that blog and relationship threads could be reeled in if we allowed more "serious" discussions. If the Flood thinks its mature enough for real and actual topical discussions, then they can find somewhere else to discuss things that aren't even actual discussions.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Wut the orange man said above meh :)

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000

I have seen you future

Since Bungie will probably never let us discuss politics on the mains you can always discuss them in private groups. The Black Chapter is one. It's not as active as the main forums, but discussion usually stays pretty mature.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”

Private groups would work, wouldn't it?

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

How badly do you want to discuss politics with 15 year-olds. o.0

I mean, even if they are older the discussion isn't going to be THAT engaging. I doubt anyone would do any actual research so it'd turn out to be a hodge podge of misinformation.

At first I was like 'hmm... yeah' then I instantly hit myself with a quick simulation of what the discussion would be like and I thought 'uhh... no... no... no'.

I'm sure that any "discussion" on the topics of religion and politics will instantly turn into a hot topic'd flame war; everyone will start with an opinion and never change it as they get closer to attacking other users out of frustration.

Have you ever even attempted to engage in anything even slightly political/controversial in the flood?

Not right thing to do. If we do it, there will be war.

Anyway, the flood could have some educated arguments with some control.

  • 11.29.2011 5:05 PM PDT

Break down, every single one of you.

No. Politics tends to bring out the worst in people. Add the anonymity of the internet and you will have nothing but flaming and trolls. I hate to say it, but people are idiots. Take away the chance of their idiocy being followed back to them and it just gets worse. I would like to believe that the Flood is mature enough for such things, but in my honest opinion they are not.

You can try suggesting to to a web team member or make threads about it, but don't expect a change there.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

Political, and slightly religious, threads tend to be allowed so long as the conversation remains civil. They're rarely locked instantly.

  • 11.29.2011 7:57 PM PDT

Why allow for political or religious discussions that would open eyes as well as mouths when you can instead have quality stuff like:

Do you like boys or girls and are you a boy or girl?

Say the most Random Facts!

Where did you meet your girlfriend/boyfriend?

I say that there is no need for conversations about two of the more important things in life when there are boys and girls and girlfriends and random facts and how many pushups you can do threads to waste our time.

Religion and politics have nothing to do with video games or Bungie...where as the things I mentioned above have EVERYTHING to do with them.

Yes, it goes something like this.

Me: "Well I believe this"
Floodian: "NOPE YOUR WRONG AND SHOULD STOP BELIEVING THAT"

He/she then proceeds to go into a 5 page essay about why my beliefs on said topic are wrong and why I should change them.

I feel some point should be made about people being critical of a forum body for not doing research when it is entirely apparent that they have not done any themselves on a topic.

Guns in America
The Wealthy are taxed enough
Not only do these provide rather excellent examples of the flood doing it well, clocking in at just under 1600 and 1300 posts respectively, they are both reasonably well sourced by a variety of people.

Some more posting research/evidence
Smattering of it in here too

I probably could go on, but I'm getting bored here. Point here is, saying things like 'herp the flood is entirely incapable of holding a proper discussion on politics both outright and on the edge of.' is well, stupid and easily shown to be so.

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

People on here get too heated about certain topics. It doesn't make for much fun either participating in or reading the thread.

New Flood

I think we should be able to talk about religion and politics in the Flood.
