@Dr Weird: Yeah, I figured it would count as a contest.

EDIT: But I really did think they wouldn't mind. I was wrong there. 0_0

I don't know that I would consider it a contest, but I would consider it an ad, and those have their own forum.

  • 11.29.2011 10:02 PM PDT

WELL I'M GONNA CALL IT A CONTEST. I'm almost positive Achronos will say "no go", but I would actually enjoy some Community games (but not Apples-to-Apples, for chrissake).

I think it would be fun too, but I really don't think the community forum is the best place for it, at least right now.

The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

I agree that this forum isn't exactly the best place for that kind of thing. But in the forum rules it says that the Community forum is for topics related to the Bungie Community and the Bungie.net Community itself.

Games involve the Bungie community, I don't see it would too big of a problem.

  • 11.29.2011 10:18 PM PDT

Well, here's the thing, it would seem to me; this would be the place to get the most active Community members participating in the game in question, but it doesn't necessarily go here in accordance to those damned Forum Descriptions.

You should try to find a way to fit it in. Ask Foman; he should be good at finding loopholes (giggity).

Yes; I agree. Plus, like I said, it's the only forum with legitimate Community members -- the Flood is just full of people who couldn't care less, for the most part. The majority of them pop in here anyway.

It probably wouldn't be, to start with. But then how long would it take before this forum is full of nothing but ''come play with us'' style threads and nothing else?

There are literally millions of bnet accounts, out of that how many would be here posting come play threads? How many would see it here and also think that those kinds of threads are allowed anywhere?

For something like this to really work out well, a dedicated private group/forum would be a better way to go maybe.

  • 11.29.2011 10:28 PM PDT

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.

Posted by: Dr WeirdBeing as The Classifieds are arguably the most appropriate place for 'ads' like this, I'm wondering if we could start a topic with the specific purpose of hi-lighting key community games. That way we cut down on people posting a bunch of contests around here but still have an organized place for members to go to play games together.

  • 11.29.2011 10:31 PM PDT

There are some wonderful ideas here. And, I love the idea of people using this website more to actually enhance the time they spend playing games. As has been said, it just needs to happen in the right way. For now, allow me some time to strategize with the Ninjas and the Bungie.net team. We are listening to you.

More to come...

I understand your points.

In that case I agree with a deidicated group, not a forum since it would prove the Classifieds unnecessary.

Personally for me I come to this forum to discuss the community and the site itself, not to find people to play games with. Every once in a while as a special treat its kinda fun, but it would get really old really fast if that is all that went on here. It needs its own place, not only to prevent clutter on the forums, but also to make sure things are well organized each time it happens.

How about we improve upon Bungie.net's PM system?

Allow users to organize Events. They can list the title of the event, dates and times, and possibly a short description. Organizers can send invites to users who can either decline or accept. Users who accept are put into a "roster" for the organizers to use.

My idea is very rough; I'm not in the thinking mood at the moment so I will come back to it tomorrow.

A system like that would be awesome.

  • 11.29.2011 10:55 PM PDT

If I see another person try to insinuate that Bnet is turning into Facebook, I'm going to explode.

NO, THAT WAS NOT AT ALL RELATED OR SIMILAR TO A FACEBOOK EVENT, THIS HAPPENS ON THE SITE, THAT DOES NOT

I don't use Facebook constantly, so I can't say I know. If it is, can I say I'm as brilliant as Zuckerberg?

But in all seriousness, this would be more orientated to bringing a community together, rather than inviting a group of people who don't have relations with each other. We all have things in common, that's why we are a community.

Did that make sense? I'm not sure if that came off clear.

Why not? What's wrong with the Facebook event system?

An event can't last longer than 3 months :(

What?

I wasn't suggesting we use facebook events if that's what you mean, more just a comparison.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I personally don't like the Facebook Events model for this type of thing. I think it would fall into the old habit that community Carnage type events fell into, and become closed off "cool kids" gatherings, instead of true egalitarian gatherings of anyone in the Community who can attend. Perhaps if the names and system were organized prior to an Event like message system, where more than just the initiated could get them and try to be involved, it could work. But as it stands now, the message would have to go out to everyone, which is a terrible idea because it universal spam, or people who are already organized together, like those in a group. There would need to be another level put in place first, or this would go nowhere.

I personally would rather there be a separate system, or board, or group for all of this. It would be cleaner, and if throttled correctly, could handle the eventual chaotic nature that these things imbue on themselves.

Made this a while ago. In April, in fact.

Touches on topics raised a lot in here. Solves a lot of issues. Could be heavily edited, but I still like the basic premise.

Yes.

Hopefully more focus will be placed on Private Groups in the next version of Bnet.

I was thinking and realized that DeeJ definitely did something by organizing that event. Everyone got together, played some games, had fun, and got to know each other a little better! I'd like to emphasize the last part.

Think about it, we could become more closer as a community. We could be stronger as a community! No longer will you have to go to cons and expos to be with people who enjoy your interests, it coule be here, right here, on B.net.

This isn't Facebook. Facebook tries connect the world. We are connecting a community, bonding, if I could say. We're so much more smaller than the world; this only opens oppurtunities for us.
