I did when the beta came out.

Reach did not fail. The community failed to change.

Reach is the worst Halo game, by far.

Reach dropped to number 3 days after release, and has been dropping since. Halo 3 stood strong as number 1 for 2 years after release, and still stood strong as number 2 after MW2 took its place until lolReach came along.

Reach has retarded gameplay that was so bad it needed its core engine changed via a title update just to try to get people to come back.

In all fields, Halo 3 surpassed Halo: Reach.

Now because of Reach, CoD owns the Xbox 360. Hell, a game that's an entire year older than it, MW3, is passing it.

Not only that, but 343i has hinted sooo many times that Reach was, basically, a bad Halo game.

Just say it. It doesn't matter if you like it or not. That's just your opinion. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion. Just don't be in denial of facts.

I actually agree with OP. I thought the graphics were more than adequate considering the games out at the time (even those out today), and the storyline was deep, engaging, and unpredictable. Plus, let's face it, Halo 3 and 2 could not compete with the multiplayer on Reach, and I still am finding new ways to enjoy the game a year later. This is just one man's opinion though. However I do think it would not be a stretch to say that Reach is in the running for GoAT.

sincerely,
Former COD player turned Reach fan

I haven't played for over a year. Sad Face.

I just attribute its lack of success to other, more realistic reasons than most on this forum. For one, I'm not under the impression that things such as bloom and armor lock chased away the masses.

I simply argue that other titles became more popular and took the "must play" stigma away from Halo.

This. Halo, is old. Everyone wants to play cod and skyrim-based games now. Halo 4 may change some of that, but not all. Not when cod is releasing a new game every 9 months. In comparison noone really likes black ops and no one really likes reach. MW3 came out for black ops we are all stuck waiting for halo 4. but damn, mw3 and skyrim are pretty badass.

Bungie is all seeing and all knowing... so kinda like santa. Except they hand out bans instead of coal to all the bad boys and girls.

Agreed as well. Bloom and armor lock can be kinda annoying but they didn't break the game for me. My biggest problem with Reach has mostly been that there is no real benefit to winning matches or penalty for quitting them, so camping and griefing is pretty prevalent. I have still played Reach quite a bit because I honestly enjoyed it. Mostly I think Reach didn't do as well as Halo 3 because there are now competing fps franchises like MW and Battlefield which were either not around or weren't nearly as big when Halo 3 came out.

FatM, you have to be the largest troll i have ever seen. You have had at least one troll post every time ive been on here, and i only log in about once a month. Move on bro, getting mad at us people who are halo fans no matter the game or how it changes isnt helping you. It is simply stating how much of a troll you are, and i do see that you are a mythic in reach and played 15,000 games of halo 3. But guess what, games evolve and change just like everything else. I admit it, i wasnt ready for a change this big. I eventually got used to the not so good game they call Halo:Reach. You cant bring up the population card anymore, it was good back when there was 2 cod games out and one halo game out and maybe 5 other games with decent population. Nowadays there are 3 cods and one halo. not to mention how big sports games have gotten, racing games, skyrim-type games. You can say im trolling majorly here now, but there is so much more competition here now. Halo is simply a dieing series.
Also you cant deny being a troll when you put the "inb4(insert sarcasm here)" at the end of your rant

  • 11.30.2011 9:37 PM PDT

I'm not gonna say it was a failure, I'm gonna say it just didn't feel like Halo. When it's not on a Ring, then it just doesn't seem like Halo.

"Just don't be in denial of facts."

Your OPINION of Halo Reach sucking isn't a fact, you know. Your stats about Reach are, however. And don't be a stubborn little -blam!- by saying some of us are in denial of 'facts'. I liked Reach, but again, it just didn't feel like Halo.

Reach went into a whole different direction and the majority of the Halo fan base didn't quite like that so they left, plain and simple.
It all boils down to this really.

Yes, whether or not Reach was a "failure" is purely opinion...it surely wasn't a failure monetarily for M$ or Bungie...but regardless of "increased competition" or "Halo's time having passed" or "Armor Lock & Bloom driving people away" - one thing holds true - Reach is the only Halo game to have ever seen its active population fall below its predecessor's.

Whatever reason(s) you attribute this to are simply a part of the bigger picture - Reach as a whole is not enjoyed by a large majority of the gaming community.

Nitpicking specific reasons is pointless, because again, that all comes down to personal opinion. Just take a step back and look at Reach from an outsider's perspective. If you compare it to the previous "Halo" games - it clearly "failed".

Most kills in the world with the Storm rifle in halo 4, the Plasma Repeater in halo reach, and the Plasma rifle in halo 3.
check out my youtube channel

If playing halo reach is getting boring for you try using another weapon you know I hear the DMR sniper and Magnum aren't the only weapons in the game imagine that

as for reach being a failure I think it would be much more successful if it were like COD having another almost identical game come out every year it would keep its online population pretty high but I dont think I personally would keep liking halo as any series

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

I used to love Bungie, until they shunned their community by giving us this crap. I stopped playing Reach a year ago.

But dont worry blind fanboys will somehow make an argument about adapting...... after a year. Idiots.

  • 11.30.2011 10:35 PM PDT

Still truckin' eh?

Sad sad.

Reach didn't scare off the fanbase. CoD took it away.

The era of the arcade shooter only remains on the PC with underground Quake players. It's all about lightning-fast kill times and level-ups these days.

As sad as that is, it's not Reach's fault. You're a fool if you don't see that.

This guy knows.

CoD has been the more popular franchise since before Reach was even announced. That said, I feel the changes Bungie made to core gameplay more than likely exacerbated the situtation.

When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box

I think if Reach had received a TU a bit sooner, then this forum would be singing a different song.

Infection in Halo 3 isn't zombie killing; it's ethnic cleansing. Have you ever noticed that these "zombies" are just black Spartans?

Oh joy.

I love "let's compare Halo 3, which was released in 2007, with Halo: Reach, which was released in 2010, by their rankings in the Xbox LIVE population charts! That is a totally rational and not at all a silly thing to do because everyone knows not a single other game has been released since and the make-up of the Xbox LIVE community is completely identical now as it was then" threads.

Halo 3 was the third and final part of a trilogy of games that had begun on the same platform it was set to end. Battlefield and Call of Duty, while extending farther back, had to completely re-establish themselves in the current generation of consoles with the Modern Warfare and Bad Company series. Gears of War, likewise, was a brand new franchise that simply couldn't compete with Master Chief's legacy as the Xbox poster boy who had helped launch both the original Xbox console with Combat Evolved and the Xbox LIVE multiplayer service with Halo 2.

Halo 3 also pre-dates Microsoft's big push into becoming an entertainment system and not just a gaming console. It's partnerships with Netflix, social networking companies, Sky and other television providers and the Kinect accessory have completely reshaped the make-up of Xbox LIVE users. Couple that with the immense amount of competition from the now well-established Call of Duty, Battlefield and Gears of War franchises as well as all-new new competition and you can't honestly expect Halo: Reach to endlessly top the charts in the way Halo 3 did.

That's not even touching on the reasons Halo: Reach itself may be less popular with Halo "fans."

Halo: Reach is not a bad (Halo) game, Halo: Reach is a different Halo game. If you don't like the changes, no one is forcing you to play it. You're not on some righteous crusade to make the people who genuinely like the game open their eyes and see the truth - "Halo: Reach sucks! It's truly the worst game anyone has ever made! Ever! Of all time!" - you're just an idiot with an internet connection.

In this thread:

Idiots who have played several times more Reach than I have ever found the time to, complaining about Reach being bad (whilst still playing it).

  • 12.01.2011 6:04 AM PDT

The OP is right. I left reach because the game sucks with problems including bloom, AL, AAs in general, really terrible maps and the general noob friendly vibe of the game.
