Call me Stu

No.

It was a good concept, it was just executed poorly.

heres an argument:

you play better when theres no bloom; you have more accurate shots so you get more kills. removing bloom would help everyone improve and would show them their true skill.

imagine a situation where 2 people are dmr dueling, and they both manage to knock each others shields down.

Possible outcomes;

with bloom: it comes down to randomness, who got the LUCKY headshot quicker, in essence whoever had more luck got the kill.

no bloom: who ever had better aim gets the kill. no bloom displays true skill.

Play a game of bloom and then right after play a game of no bloom, i guarantee that you will notice a difference in how many kills you get.

ZB is perfect in 4v4 maps, i wouldn't know about lolBTB because i never play that crap

  • 01.23.2012 1:42 PM PDT

so let me get this straight, you were probably one of many people who were complaining about bloom in halo and now you are complaining about no bloom in halo

agood player would make adjustments to his game to keep up with changes instead of complain.......so stop crying

So how about playing a playlist that doesn't have them?

Oh wait, this is B.net, where the logical solution just doesn't cut it, I guess.

B.net, where the best solution to a problem is to ignore it.

Bloom is good for Halo in my opinion. I mean in most shooters you have to aim down sights for acceptable accuracy which comes with slowed down combat, Halo doesn't allow players to ADSS for most weapons, and hip fire accuracy is fantastic by comparision to most other games, so obviously there must be a system that slows kill times and oombat. That's where bloom comes in, it results in paced battles.

So called "Skilled" players argue bloom is bad. It isn't, without bloom everyone spams all the time, just try ZB slayer, so if someone argues spamming is bad and noobish but claims bloom is bad, they are a hypocrite. The amount of bloom Halo should have is debatable, but I have no doubt Reach is better thanks to the addition of bloom. Yes it adds a luck element of sorts, but shooters are very much luck based, its just hidden luck. The skill of the players you're matched with, which side of the map you spawn on, hell with the new voting system, the gametype can be very much different (like the difference between AR and DMR starts). So yeah luck plays a factor, but a good player is a good player, is a good player, and minor out of the ordinary events should in no way detract from their preformance in any noticable amount.

Want a war sim? The best war sim in Halo, Forerunner Conflict.

The discussion will involve points such as distance and luck over skill.
Here's my argument then. There is no luck with zero bloom or 85% bloom. It is entirely your fault if you miss, and entirely because of you if you hit. You are in control of the weapon, no one else. So let's toss that word "luck" out the window for this argument.

There are no problems at short range, 85% or ZB. Better aim = faster kill. Regardless of which settings, it really doesn't make much of a difference.

At medium range, 85% bloom discourages individual skill. One could argue that it promotes teamwork, but that is entirely false; ZB promotes teamwork even better by rewarding better aim and offering the kill faster.

At long range, bloom makes it a bit difficult to shoot an on foot player. But let's be honest; why should the player who is without cover be rewarded? He shouldn't; he should be punished for his mistake with a quick death and a respawn screen. He is punished quicker with ZB than with 85%.

If you dislike ZB, then you have either been deluded into believing that pacing (slowing down gameplay) = skill, or are bad and do not wish for you mistakes to be punished so severely (something that would happen if ZB were implemented universally).

ZB may be better, but if implemented across all playlists an already small population would get smaller.
I think you only have to look at the population of TU ZB slayer compared to the normal team slayer to see this.

In my opinion, bloom sucks, but the reach mechanics were built around it, therefore it should stay in reach, but be axed in H4.

OP is too dumb to realize bloom is bad. This thread isn't going anywhere

You are too dumb to create an actual argument that explains exactly how bloom is bad. Bloom = Good.

People who think Bloom is bad do not know how to play a game for fun and care too much about stupid little things that no one else cares about.

I don't find massive inconsistencies fun. Not knowing if my gun will shoot where I'm aiming is not fun.

Bloom is bad because the ONLY thing it does is add randomness to your shots. Zero bloom cannot be considered unfair because everybody has an equal chance. The person that plays better will win every time.
Bloom allows people to win (or lose) due to luck. The person that plays better will usually win more times than lose, but they should be winning every time.

actually the only zb slayer is in mlg, every other gametype has been changed to TU setting of 85% bloom, now im not saying make every playlist zb gametypes, but at least make another playlist just for zb slayer because not everyone likes to play mlg or to play with tryhards who are gonna rage if you do bad

Well, here are my seven cents.

Bloom <in Reach> is not good. Now I emphasise <in Reach> because it is not implemented properly. It doesn't punish a spammer enough. Roughly 1/4 of the times, a spammer can beat a pacer. This adds randomness and defeats the purpose of bloom.

Zero bloom in Reach is not bad. The DMR and NR's rate of fire is. When 100% accuracy + hitscan + aim assist meets 5 shots every 2.5 seconds, only then is zero bloom bad. I'm sure if the DMR and NR's rof were decreased, BTB maps could remain playable, and there would not be an increase in camping.

Way I see it is, they need to either a) increase bloom, or b) remove bloom but slow down those precision weapons.

And for the below
players ... would never miss a shot if no bloom was present
GOOD. If a player can maintain excellent accuracy AND fire at optimal speeds, he SHOULDN'T be punished. The only problem I have with this is that one can kill another fully shielded player in around 2 seconds (as it is with ZB right now).

well everyone complains that Reach is too slow paced due to bloom, it was the same in halo 3, 4 BR shots and youre down which about 2 seconds aswell

  • 01.23.2012 8:44 PM PDT

In MLG its ZB>85%>100% and in other playlists its 85%>ZB>100%

  • 01.24.2012 6:19 AM PDT

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

I could go either way. I honestly don't care.
