Ok. This is a very serious question. It's for anyone who knows, and being a huge fan, I would be honored to hear from any of you bungie guys that know too.
I just got a job as a photo tech. working for my state's newspaper (score!). While going through orientation, we were informed that the paper was changing direction a little and trying to get the attention of younger readers. They also let us know that any ideas we may have would be appreciated.
It took a little while for it to hit me, but the paper doesn't review games. I mean, CNN and USA Today, a couple of the biggest names in news, have a page or two (paper and website) that are devoted to video games.
So I've made a decision. I'm going to put together the best presentation possible to pitch to the editors in the newsroom. I've been researching all kinds of information. Quoting the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the survey they recently took on gamers' ages on average, the type of people our paper reaches, the percentage of readers that have video game consoles and PC's, the buying power of those people (wether it be parent's buying for kids or readers buying for themselves), etc...
I need as many real opinions on any other information I should include, so everybody feel free to tell me what you think. After all, you guys are the gamers. You can help me with this better than any of the old geezers I have to present this to.
Also, one of the main questions I am working on now is: How do I go about getting games from publishers, either for free or at discounted rates (I have a feeling that they're going to want to start off with low cost, until it hopefully takes off), at the same time getting them a little early, so I can have the review finished in time for the release?
Thanks in advance to those of you who read this. It ended up a little longer than I intended for a forum.
