Subject: Why Reach's population is low

Two makes there more than speakers.

I miss the Double Xp weekends. At least they spiced it up a bit.

Sorry but we all know the real reason the population is so low is because nobody wants to come up against my party and get destroyed.

So every one moved onto new games, if i leave reach everyone will start flocking back.

That "lack of player investment" theory sounds like crap to me. I think it's a lot simpler. Most people aren't gonna play a game they don't have fun playing, and they're not. The people who do continue playing a game they don't enjoy playing are the people invested in the game. Like those people who come on the forums saying that they hate this game and once they reach Inheritor, they're leaving the game forever.

Personally, I don't care about the rank system. I played a lot of Halo 2, which had the rank system you're talking about, and I've played quite a bit of Reach, and I don't have a preference between the rank systems. Halo 2 also didn't have the Armory or anywhere near the amount of customization Reach allows, yet people loved and were very devoted/addicted to it. The same can be said about Commendations & Challenges.

The problem is with the gameplay. And I think the main problems with the gameplay, in order, are armor abilities and the regular Reach maps. I'm having a blast in the matchmaking gametypes with no armor abilities on the multiplayer maps supplied with CEA. I'd suggest completely taking out armor abilities from the CEA matchmaking playlists, then I know I'd be set for a long time. Even that might not be enough to bring back the population at this point, though.

so manly even my sentences don't have periods

I actually really enjoyed reach when i first bought it - yes, it felt different to previous Halos, but multiplayer was still way more fun that CoD and BF...

However, I went abroad and didn't have access to live for around 6-8 months, and when i came back the whole feel of the online game had changed. I found the average skill level of the community to be a lot tougher to play against - not knowing the layout of the levels, weapon locations etc at first. And even after getting back into it slightly (I now have some decent games as well as shocking ones), the difference in player ability still holds true.

I think a lot of the more casual players have switched to CoD becuase it's easier to play on there and have a reasonable game without having to invest time. There might be a slight resurgence in Reach numbers if MW3 ends up being hacked to pieces like MW2 was.

And so God called Moses to come forth but he came fifth and was therefore disqualified.

Okay. Yes, I have a sucky KDR, yes, I snipe tons (and I'm dang good), yes, I play Infection, BTB, Snipers, SWAT, and all the "noob" playlists, but I play halo for the fun. Who cares about all this crap? I just like making screenshots and maps, and earning medals.

The population sucks because the game sucked.

Stop trying to analyze why the population is low. People don't play it that's the simplest answer, and why they don't play it is their business. I like Reach and will continue to play it until the next Halo.

Nah, it's just that any gamers with brains are playing Modern Warfare 3 now.

Because MW3 is out and Reach blows in comparison to CoD besides Black Ops

People love COD its as simple as that.

This^^
We all want to be able to play what we want and not get banned for leaving from a match we dont want to play. This is one of the reasons why CoD is so popular becaus it use's player matches where players can quit and join mid games.

Reach shoulde have had Player/Public matches for the social part and not this old matchmaking crap.

Walk by faith. Dude. Not by sight.

If you try Skyrim you will understand why Reach's population has declined. Both are great games, but Skyrim is new and very fun.

Why? Halo has had matchmaking right since Halo 2.

Skyrim's the greatest game ever, but it's still behind BO D:<

Yeah so did CoD 3 but only for the Ranked part, the most popular part of CoD3 was the public matches where players coulde quit and join mid games. So the CoD developers understood that and stoped with the Ranked stuff.
It's ok to have matchmaking but why dose it need to be on the social part?
Keep matchmaking for the ranked part of the game and not the social part.
Another game that allso started to use player/public matches for the social part is Gears 3 and guess what gets played the most? it's not the Ranked matchmaking part it's the public matches.
Halo has to stop living in the old system when it comes to setting up online matches, They need to do what Epic did for Gears 3.

Ill sum it up in a few things.

Halo has:

Friendly fire: Leads to betrayals that are often times unfair in so many ways. You all know this friendly fire system is completely broken and a terrible thing to have.

No join-mid-game system: Leads to people leaveing games causing bad gameplay experienses, as well as lengthy search times. Also if you have been in enough games where teamates leave and you end up leaving yourself out of frustration, you end up with a 10 minute ban. (small but still furthur hinders the gameplay experience). You should never be forced into playing a terrible game set up just because teamates leave.

MW3 (and other CoD's) have none of these issues. You can turn the game on and play almost instantly and not have to worry about your own team either leaveing cus they suck or shooting you just cus they want to be a dick. And if you want FF, they have a playlist for that.

In the end, CoD is just better and halo is too damn primitive and restricted. If they wanted to change anything in reach, they should have started with these things, not the bloom stuff and AA's (though i dont mind the last 2).

And if that isnt enough, go compare the 2 player counts. Last time i checked (yesturday), reach has 39,000 while MW3 was at 790,000.

none of that OP
the thing is reaches maps are terrible
even the anniversary expansion wasn't that great. HALO 2 had mind blowing maps, HALO Combat Evolved had blood gulch

It's to late for Reach. We...we must go on. Bungie's new game will be here soon enough. Gears of War 3 is fun in the mean time.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

I respectfully disagree. I believe these are the reasons that many people have left Reach.

1. Halo is getting old- Look at the other titles of other games that are coming out right now. Gears 3, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Assassins Creed, and Skyrim. Halo 2 and Halo 3 didn't have nearly as much competition from other game developers since it was still in the beginning of Xbox Live. Halo 2 was the reason original Xbox Live was alive for as long as it was.

2. Reach isn't competitive - You don't even need to win to rank up. That is VASTLY different from the other Halo games. The entire competitive spirit is gone. Commendations make it so killing is actually more important than winning the game. You can just sit in a game and not get any kills and rank up. What kind of competition is that? Even if you have the competitive spirit to win the game, that doesn't mean your opponents have the same thing. Which in result, creates a social game.

3. The Maps - I know a huge number of people that don't like Reach simply because of the maps. Whatever your playstyle is, maps are alway a problem. Why are dynamic spawn in Slayer gamemodes? Why is Invasion Spire incredibly overpowered for Elites in phase 1? Why is Swordbase still in Arena?

4. Quit Ban/Mute Ban - Are you serious? There needs to be a different penalty for quitting than giving a 15 minutes timeout. Firstly, the problem is credits. Since everything in Reach revolves around credits, the only thing to do is have people not gain them. Remember, winning doesn't mean anything in Reach, so you can't take away "XP" like you could in Halo 3. The entire quit ban is atrocious and it's directly because of the credit and ranking system in Reach.

Mute ban is even worse. Why would a company put a "banning" system in charge, where the consumers can control it? Halo 2/3 worked great! Didn't like a person talking? Just mute them yourself. I currently have the opportunity of being mute banned right now. Let me tell you something, it sucks. There is no notification that even says you're mute banned, you basically find it out yourself. I checked all my settings and searching with friends they even found that I was muted automatically. I don't even trash talk before of after games. Anyone that has played with me here can attest to that. Sad thing is, I don't even know how long it lasts. Could be days, weeks, or months.

If anything, Bungie has spent a great deal of time making player investment worth something in Reach. But that isn't the reason that people have quit. There was even less customizable armor in Halo 3, but even after you unlocked everything, people still continued to play. You know why? The game mechanics and the maps are fun. People played to win to rank up.

None of that happens in Reach.

Q:If you could make a weapon, what would it be?
A: Posted by: aweomesauce cone
I would make a Colonel killer.

It will shoot AR's off the map, and the colonels will follow to their death.

It's a terrible game made for terrible kids.

I personally like reach's ranking system, mostly because I suck.
