It's a legitimate defensive strategy that is tactically logical to employ if the other team is whoring out the power weapons.

Additionally, some weapons require a player to camp, ie: Shotgun or Energy Sword, as they are CQB/CQC weapons that are to be used in areas of cover, corners, and the Sniper Rifle to keep hostile positions suppressed from a distance - As soon as you lose that position, hostiles are given more leeway for movement which ends up in lost map control.

I think it's a legitimate excuse for players who aren't good at playing the game to look 'decent' stat-wise.
Camping is for not-so-good players. And can easily be dealt with by said good players.

The only people who complain about camping are the ones who rush into the middle of the map blindly and expect not to get shot in the first few minutes.

Occasionally there's a problem, since a map is unsymmetrical and gives one team an environmental advantage, making it easier to lock down a location, but if you play Classic MLG or Customs it should be fine.

Swordbase is a primary example. Red Team almost always has the advantage.

True, there are opinions like yours, but there are facts that camping (when needed, not all the time lol) can be used in such a way to get the upper-hand over hostile teams.

My opinion is that while camping (that is when other players are doing it too) is a rather weak tactic, but by no means is it inferior to blind rushing.

What's the maps name again... Ummm... Penance, that's it - I had much fun using the corners and little ledges in and around the map with an Energy Sword to get quite a couple of kills in this game :3.

And yes, as in the map "Battle Canyon/Beaver Creak" is a one sided affair as the other team has this rock arch that they can clamber up to get the Rocket Launcher straight from the first spawn, as an example.

Campers are easily dealt with if one employs one of two solutions:

1) If you have a team, call the camper out. The spot the person was in will be grenaded, the camper will run, and then the camper will be gunned down mercilessly.

2) If you do not have a team, stop going to that one spot.

Problem solved.

To add to this, those who are camping give the other team/player a chance to gather up enough weapons to flood them out.

I play a lot of Swat these days to avoid the scrubs sitting around every corner with a sword or shotgun, or flying around with rockets, but I have to admit the camping and stupidity that takes place as a result of map design is just ridiculous.

I'm talking about Sword Base and Countdown in particular.

Even in Swat people run up to the Green Lift room and hang out, or camp the lifts in Countdown.

Last night I was playing (Swat) for the first time in a few days, so I was going all out to get multi kills for the weekly. We wound up at Sword Base for the millionth time, two people on the other team left, one on my team left, and the most ridiculous campfest I had ever seen ensued, to the point where I literally, for the first time ever, put my controller down and walked away. We lost the game as a result, at which point I couldn't care less.

Some of these maps need to be thrown right out, because it's obvious that they are garbage, that promotes garbage play.

Don't ever give lolSword base that name ever again.

Only call it by what it actually is: Yellow Lift Room.

Camping in some maps is actually tolerable as the camping isn't permanent, flush-able, and can be countered. Yellow Lift Room just has a terrible design with it's map layout when it comes to how map control can be abused.

This game is very diverse in the sense that you aren't limited to one strategy per person. You can carry two weapons so the more skilled player will grab the CQC weapon and switch to the longer range weapon until said CQC weapon needs to be employed. A not so skilled opponent on the other hand will consider the weapon niche... A powerhouse weapon when used right... aka camping with all of them.

Skilled players tend to move A LOT! better that your enemy doesn't know where you are or is capable of picking up on habits.

Lol well I'm only half decent with the Shotgun, I suck with the Sniper Rifle and the Rockets (I've been told I'm good with them, but for the life of me I can't seem to get more than a double kill with the rockets), so I stick with either a Magnum & Shotgun, or the DMR & Shotgun combo - It keeps my back covered if I'm suddenly faced by many players close up and I need to dispose of them quickly.

I skirt around the map myself, only really getting kills when the opportunity shows itself because I'd rather be low profile when it comes to running around the map :>

Go HALO!!

I do complain about camping a whole lot. I pretty much play swat maybe 75% of the time. But I cannot stand people who camp in one place. I was on Solitary while people found it necessary to camp and hide in the side hallways. Well, there were only two of them and they always switched sides. So we could never find them, we would always end up going to the wrong side and got cross-mapped as a result.

-.-

Never give up and eventuly you will win.
Can't stop me or break me down.
I am a christian.

Oh really?

I can easily not camp and win with a shotgun or energy sword. I just stick to CQC places and run around with my other weapon if I go into a long range enviroment.

I can easily move around without camping if another team gets all the power weapons.

Camping is more often than not unneeded in any and every game.
