Subject: How many Reachtards does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

For those who don't pay attention, MLG isn't ZB today. It was announced that it would have to wait until Tuesday, as all playlists are always updated at the same time.

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

The problem isn't ranks, dumbass. People have been finding ways to compare their e-peens since Reach's outset. Whether it be by KD, W/L, HaloCharts, HaloTracker, or winstreaks people find a way.

They use all those other things because there's no definitive rank that actually shows who is better. A 1-50 system did that.

Whenever something gets fixed, people ignore the change and say something else is the huge problem of Reach. It used to be that AAs, movement speed, and damage sucked. Team Classic/MLG were made. Then it was bloom. Then the TU playlist was made, as were the anniversary playlists. Now it's rank. It doesn't matter what's fixed because some new vocal minority will always emerge. If rank IS added, then people will just say the system sucks and more people will leave because search times will become unbarable. Plus, the maps (or something else) will become the next "problem."

All of those problems have been widely and openly complained about basically since the start of the game's lifetime. Bloom, AAs, terrible maps, a lack of a decent ranking system, the awful matchmaking system; they've all been big problems the entire time and they're just slowly being fixed one at a time. And the fixes aren't even always good fixes, which is why many people are unhappy.

Also, any reason I can't count SWAT or Snipes? Both were RANKED playlists back in H3. People apparently do take them quite seriously.

So what if they were ranked playlists in H3? They aren't here, and nobody even really took them seriously back then, either. If you think that Snipers and SWAT are serious, competitive playlists then you have a problem that I cannot help you with here.

The only one.

And it's still a solution to all that. Know what? Nobody still plays it because the complainers are a vocal minority. You can't please everybody.

Jetpack breaks the game and is the worst AA in the game. Arena doesn't use 1-50 rank.

Teams still rise to the top in that list. You just need to know how to use the tools you have. Others said Armor Lock was the worst AA in the game that broke everything. Sounds to me like you are just calling what you can't beat the worst.

Crap playlists.

They had ranked of each in H3. Each were pretty popular too. The community complained until they were there.

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo

You're an idiot.

Ad homs. Nice retort.

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
We're not talking about customs.

Why not? You won't ever get the 100% perfect playlist that you want because others will disagree with what you think is perfect. Why not play CUSTOMs then? With them you can CUSTOMize how the game is.

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
Arena's broken in every fashion.

Is that why teams still rise to the top?

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
Because the 'improvements' were half-assed and they ignored the stuff that actually mattered.

The problems at the time were fixed. New vocal minorities stepped in. The old minorities left once they realized that they were the only ones playing

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
Arena was and is broken and worthless in every conceivable way.

You've no explaination for the unpopulated MLG though. And Arena still seems to work for others.

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
Yes it was.

It's still here a year later. Few other non CoD games can say that.

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
I take it you think Bieber's a talented artist, too.

No. Like this is relavent? The masses like him, that's what matters. He doesn't have to be good to you or I to be considered good. His continued existance, and Reach's are proof that they are good enough to last.

Posted by: Andrei Chikatilo
Reach is bad and still has way too many remnants of Shadowrun, CoD, and other crappy FPS games Bungie tried to emulate.

gg

Halo Reach is a great FPS. Its time is simply up. Call of Duty is at the top so if you really want to say Reach's low pop says it's not competitive and it sucks, look at what IS cared about now: Spot, spray, pray, and camp. Competitive games are out, rewarding games are in.

And yes, gg. I am probably not going to sit here and debate all day so I'll agree to disagree. I still don't think Reach is bad though.

1) No it didn't. People boosted their way to the highest rank and then people broke into two crowds: If you have a 50, you're not necessarily bad, but you can't necessarily tell. If you don't have a 50, you're bad. How is that a good ranking system? People still couldn't tell. It was generally accepted that anybody and their mother could get a 50 if they boosted.

2) So the entire game, basically (movement, maps, damage, gunplay, AAs, etc) is bad, yet it lasted a year? Ok.

3) They were cared enough about to be put into ranked lists then, they should be accepted now. The community whined until we had them and celebrated their ranked status.

No, no, no, NO! Goddamn you're stupid. The number of people that "boosted" to get a 50 was negligible compared to the actual amount of legitimate 50s. Either way, that system is still better than whatever we have in Reach, which is NOTHING.

2) So the entire game, basically (movement, maps, damage, gunplay, AAs, etc) is bad, yet it lasted a year? Ok.

As said many times before, this game was made far too much for casuals. A large percentage of the competitive players from Halo 3 simply left this game because of so many problems, and that's where the difference in population between the two games comes from. All the casuals don't care about -blam!- game design because they'll play whatever they think is "fun", not whatever they think is "the best competitive experience". Fun for these kids is running around being dumbasses shooting/punching/throwing grenades at whatever they see, which isn't how the competitive gameplay goes and which is why there's so much less competitiveness in Reach than in Halo 3.

3) They were cared enough about to be put into ranked lists then, they should be accepted now. The community whined until we had them and celebrated their ranked status.

You. Are. Retarded.

Weeeeeee. Traveling is fun.

Too bad most of the competitive fanbase finds this game not nearly as fun as past Halo games, which is why they stopped playing it.

People don't play MLG because it's gotten a bad rap from dip-blam!-s like you.

Teams still rise to the top in that list. You just need to know how to use the tools you have. Others said Armor Lock was the worst AA in the game that broke everything. Sounds to me like you are just calling what you can't beat the worst.

I can beat AAs just fine. I just have the ability to see past my own nose and recognize game-breaking garbage for what it is regardless of how it effects me personally.

And I'm not 'others'. Jetpack and camo are exponentially more annoying and damaging to gameplay than AL.

They had ranked of each in H3. Each were pretty popular too. The community complained until they were there.

I don't care. They're 'specialty' playlists. If you're actually trying to make your point using a playlist where everyone only uses sniper rifles, then god help you.

Ad homs. Nice retort.

If you think bloom is 'unnoticeable' in the anniversary playlists, then you really are an idiot and probably haven't even played them.

Why not? You won't ever get the 100% perfect playlist that you want because others will disagree with what you think is perfect. Why not play CUSTOMs then? With them you can CUSTOMize how the game is.

Customs are difficult to set up and a lot of times people just goof off.

Is that why teams still rise to the top?

They rise to the top because they use horrendously unbalanced maps (red team Reflection, Powerhouse, and SB) and abuse the hell out of the game-breaking jetpacks. It's broken.

The problems at the time were fixed. New vocal minorities stepped in. The old minorities left once they realized that they were the only ones playing

The problems were never fixed. Bungie never took out bloom

The old classic playlist was trash and an embarrassment. I don't think it could have been handled more poorly.

You've no explaination for the unpopulated MLG though. And Arena still seems to work for others.

MLG has always been a niche playlist.

Arena's a broken playlist with trash gameplay and an idiotic ranking system.

It's still here a year later. Few other non CoD games can say that.

Because they get replaced by new -blam!- installments, you retard.

No. Like this is relavent? The masses like him, that's what matters. He doesn't have to be good to you or I to be considered good. His continued existance, and Reach's are proof that they are good enough to last.

So in other words, popular = good.

You're a moron.

Spot, spray, pray, and camp.

Default Reach.

So?

If I were making a game, why would I want to cater to a fickle and demanding crowd? I'm a casual and I'm still playing Reach. They should make a game for me, yo.

Or we bust out the candles since weasels like you couldn't light a match without burning the house down.

Excuse me, but I have to mow down at least 3 lances of enemy mechs in Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries, not like anyone here would know what that game is.

Do you know what they did for Halo 2 and 3? They catered to the competitive crowd and got HUGE followings because casuals still had fun with the game. Now, we have a game that is fun for the casuals, but not to the competitive crowd, so it's lost a chunk of the population.

If this game were more competitive, along the lines of Halo 2 or 3, the casuals would still buy the game.

You only get so far with a fickle audience. If it's popular, it falls out of favor eventually.

Whether or not Reach or Halo 4 garner a huge audience or the competitive crowd is immaterial to me anyway. It's a HALO game. It'll have an audience big enough for me to find games well, so what do I care if it's popular with the elitist crowd?

The whole design philosophy behind Reach is to even up the gap between good and bad players so bad players can sway combat in their favor. Casual vs competitive is a misconception--Reach couldn't cater to casuals because there's already a game out there that will always beat Halo at it.

Halo had its own formula that was almost perfect in Halo 3 (which is why it lasted so long) and then Bungie decided to fix what wasn't broken when Reach came along. Which is why we're sitting here a year later still complaining about problems that either haven't been fixed yet or aren't going to be fixed. Arena is the perfect example of something that still hasn't been fixed.

Exactly. You don't care who they cater to, as long as the game is good. What's the problem with catering to the people who want a good AND competitive game? You casuals still get a fun game, and the competitive crowd has a good, competitive title that they can have fun with.

Everybody wins when the competitive crowd is catered to.
