I'd say they're fine.

  • 12.01.2011 10:36 AM PDT

MLG got nothin' on me

wheres the option for: jetpacks shouldnt be taken out the game and require no skill at all.

jetpacks are handy for getting places that take a while to climb, like sword base or solitary. they require no skill since you only have to press a button. your brother is a retard for thinking that jetpacks require skill and your a retard for wanting to take them out.

And is the MLG playlist updated yet?

Gotta love bnet. I'm glad this place is dead so nobody from 343 comes here to get feedback and ideas for Halo 4. The Jetpack is a game-breaking armor ability at higher-level play. It throws any concept of map control and setups out the window.

I remember thinking jetpacks were the coolest addition to Reach after seeing preview videos of Reach. Nowadays I see them as easy kills. I enjoy opponents using them.

Nope, the playlist isn't going to be updated until next Tuesday along with the others. I might run some more customs tonight or tomorrow night in the meantime though. This place is dead, so if you could find more people again that'd be awesome.

My coup is just something I like, And is not to fit my B.Net personality. And on topic, Just because some people dislike the use of a certain AA It shouldn't be removed from the game entirely. If it did, Then people who hate it will move onto another AA To try and get rid of it.

Yeah, that's why all AA's should be removed. They never belonged in Halo.

Lol, I can't believe I might lose. I thought it was universally agreed that Jetpacks are game breaking and horrible for competitive gameplay.

I completely agree with your brother, he is not the retard, you are, the jetpack is perfectly fine just as every other AA is fine.

i'd say jetpacks are skillfull, its harder to shoot your target and your an easy obvious target..there skillfull, i agree they should be taken out arena as they break maps but skill wise their fine

Jetpack is bad in a similar way to how Armor Lock is bad.

Armor Lock

Armor Lock, saves you from deadly damage and can let you distract enemies while you wait for backup. This is a powerful ability and people hated it because it is annoying to have to deal with. It's not that its too weak or puts you at a disadvantage when being used. It's it gives too much of an advantage.

Jetpack

In a similar way Jetpack allows you to ignore the map movement funnels that the developers anticipated and designed the map around. You don't need to use the maps stairs when you can fly to the higher ledge from right under its side. This messes up the maps flow.

Jetpack also makes almost all the cover placed most maps useless because it was designed assuming the enemies would be at a similar elevation to players using the cover. With Jetpack you can fly far above the cover and get the first shot on enemies who are either hiding to recover shields or trying to avoid being shot by the other team.

For two players with good aim whoever gets the first shot is probably going to get the kill. Jetpack allows you to get the first shot on players who weren't expecting to be targeted while using cover.

This change of gameplay would be acceptable if the maps had been designed to accommodate this addition, but other than adding wide open outdoor and indoor maps with high ceilings, thereby giving Jetpackers a place to go up, they didn't design the maps to work with Jetpack for the players who are stuck on the ground.

Most open area cover is for ground level enemies and the only Jetpack proof cover on most maps is inside buildings which limit ground level players from engaging other enemies in the game by cutting them off from all other enemies.

So when facing a team of enemy Jetpackers you have three choices.
1. Stay in buildings to avoid their height advantage.

(not recommended, they will rush the building you are in and, considering the size of the average room, you will be killed by grenade spam)

2. Go outside and try to kill the Jetpackers.

(Viable if you can get your teammates to help and the Jetpackers are not coordinated. If your team won't help or the Jetpacker are coordinated this won't work.)

3. Use Jetpack yourself to get the advantages listed.

(Recommended against uncoordinated enemies. Not recommended against parties or coordinated enemies.)

This short list of choices for countering Jetpack is unacceptable from a gameplay standpoint because it limits players viable options when faced with such a disadvantage.

It breaks some maps, but the only way it'd be totally broken is if only one team had the Jetpack option.
Everyone gets the same AA's, so it's fair.

Your opinion is invalid.

They shouldn't be taken out of everything. Let's face it, flying around in a game full of retards is pretty fun.

Jet packs should however be removed from Arena. I thought that was common knowledge by now.

  • 12.01.2011 11:06 AM PDT

Jetpacks are fine. It's just that they shouldn't be on certain maps. But for the most part? Your brother's right.

Of course, said person goes back to the argument that Armour Lock is bad, yet cannot get above a 1.50 K/D, too busy getting killed by Armour Lock?

Everyone gets the same AA's, so it's fair.

So if both teams have a Rockets option on the loadout menu then the game is still balanced?

Saying its balanced because you can counter the enemy's advantage by using the same thing is stupid.

You should be able to counter the enemy's advantage no matter what you're using. If a feature's only claim to balance is everyone can use it then it's not balanced.

Stay classy Reachtards.

Huh, I seem to be at a loss:

You have a scale.
You put 5 lbs. on each side of said scale.
It is balanced.

So, if both teams have a Rocket spawn option, you're obviously playing Team rockets, or Rocket CTF.
Player who uses it best will win.
Even if there were other loadouts, like a Sniper loadout, it'd still be balanced. The rockets just became a little less useful.
Balanced.
