Subject: Why didn't Bungie ever fix Halo 2's glitches?

Not sure if there was some sort of technicality, but there were a lot of game breaking glitches in Halo 2 (BXR, BXB, etc.)

How come they never fixed them?

I wasn't on bungie.net very often around the Halo 2 era and I'm not sure if this was ever brought to light by Bungie or not.

I'm not sure exactly, but I think button glitches can't be fixed. Although Bungie did fix sword flying (which sucks).

The button combos were deep in the coding of the game. They would have had to rewrite a load of coding to fix it, which couldn't be done after releasing the game. The super bounces were a flaw in the Havok physics engine, so it couldn't be patched either. Bungie was deciding not to patch them because they could, not because "teh glitches r awsum".

Yeah, I think they would have patched everything if they could.

Question: Do you really think 343 will let the button combo's and or superbounces go without fixing if they use H2's MP code?

I don't think they can bring those back to be honest. I'm not sure how 343i creates remakes, but there are some left out CE glitches that go deeper in to the coding.

I say it's the same as they treated CEA's glitches. Halo 2 is just like a child to its fans. There are things that most on the outside would see as "flaws", but to the fans they're seen as a beautiful thing that make it what it is. I have faith in 343 Industries to see that.

Like what? Combat Evolved Anniversary is Halo: Combat Evolved with a mask on it to make it look modern. It is the exact same coding. What glitches aren't in Anniversary that were in Combat Evolved?

Some people at waypoint are complaining about ledge jumping being gone. I don't know what exactly that is, but apparently it is gone or else there wouldn't be such a distaste over there.

I don't remember ledge jumping being present in Halo: Combat Evolved to begin with. I only remember it in Halo 2 and Halo 3. I'd appreciate a link to someone talking about this.

I'll find the thread at jumpers about the ledging, it was real big in CE, those guys were pros (so to speak).

It's a discussion about differences in CE and CEA. The ledging part is a small mentioned and it looks like most ledging can be acieved by switching graphics back and forth.

In that they're saying, due to the graphical changes, textures aren't lining up exactly how they used to and that ledges disappear at certain points. I'm wondering if you can simply flip the graphics back for it to work again or if it's just hard wired into the game?

I edited too late. Yes, it seems that they switch back and forth, the ledges are there but cannot be seen.

Syx...you should view the rest of the threads there, quite a few are about H1 and the jumpers section also has H1 stuff.

Edit: Here's maybe a better thread, scroll to post 34, Devin Olsen talks about great ledging on the Maw (goatrope was with him) in new graphics mode.

I should and I will! I've already kicked myself for not knowing about this after the 10 years playing this game, so I owe it to myself to check it out. Thanks!

Edit: Wow. It is disappointing that they failed to actually make the rest of the out of bounds portions of the maps. At least you can still do it in the original graphics. Not completely lost. :P

Yup, it's fascinating watching the vids and reading what they say, you know it's not bull, they test everything.

This. The glitches made the game a lot more interesting even after you finish the campaign.

He never asked what people thought of the glitches. He asked why Bungie didn't patch them. I already gave the real answer as to why they didn't patch it.

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Superbounces absolutely broke Matchmaking in certain playlists.

Broke custom games too. My brother would super bounce on top of the roof on zanzibar with sniper and stay there the entire time.

"I'll tell you right now, if you ever see someone called ll wa1do ll... leave the game immediately. My friend knows him, I've been in his party a few times, do not mess with this guy. From what I've heard, he's the real deal. I also heard someone made a guy named Wa2do (similar to his name) and then he hacked that guy and boosted off his level." -From Minou on Bungie.net

The glitches in H2 added a whole other element to the game.

I agree with you, but what's the point in saying it if everyone else already has? It's like a broken record. It annoys me yet I agree with it. Isn't that a bit silly?

Well, it's an old game, it's not on Live and one of the ways to get it back is to keep up the chatter about it, so you're right, most is old news but there's still a certain joy in discussions about it. Heh, if we said only new things we would not exist at this point. I came for the Halo 2 and stayed because of the people here.

I'm talking about specifically in this thread. It's not keeping up the chatter if someone repeats something someone else said adding no further insight to the thread. Talk about what you did love about glitching. Where your favorite maps was to. Talk about exactly how it added another element.

If you don't do that you're just copy and pasting what other people have said. At that point you're just like the "MINE!" birds on Finding Nemo.
