Subject: Why was Reach so important?

It's the prestige that makes the illusion.

i'm still reading the Fall of reach and havent't finished it yet so if any spoiler would ocure, please tell before i read it.

I heard that Reach wasn't so special at all, the only important thing is that Spartans were trained on Reach and that Cortana was on Reach (later saved by B312 and given to Jacob)
Did the Covenant really had to destroy Reach for an important reason or did they just wanted to fulfill their leaders tasks to exterminate the humans?

Biggest military stonghold, except for Earth, most of the NavSpecWar special projects began there, including the Spartans.

Reach was the UNSC's "powerhouse". It was the UNSC's largest Naval base.
