You know, I've been playing Halo since 2004. It started me on the Xbox, and it's been my favorite series ever since. I don't play now nearly as much as I did years ago, what with an actual life and all now, but in all that time, I've never really thought about everything it's done.
I still play all of the Halo games pretty regularly compared to verything else I play, except Halo Wars. I still have an original Xbox, and the only games I still have are Halo CE and Halo 2. I have more games from the Halo series than I do every other game combined. I am a Halo fan, through and through.
I still remember those custom game LAN parties on that old black box with my friends before we had Xbox Live. I remember experiencing the story for the first time, something as good as almost any book I've ever read. I still recall playing my Super-Zombies gametype on ol' Sandtrap with everything from 3 to 16 players. I still play all of these games, even when some of my old friends forget what the main menu looks like.
Still, every time I get a new game, Halo dies for three weeks in my books, but something makes me just go back. I hope that never changes, honestly. I've met some pretty cool people and played some really fun games over the years. All the -blam!- people give Halo, but it's helped me meet great friends, given me all the best times I've had in my time gaming, and it's still the only series that can permanently retain my attention. That is something CoD or Battlefield could never hope to achieve.
Go ahead, haters. Flame me. I welcome it. If one, even just one person reads this and thinks, "Wow, this guy's right," it'll be worth more than anything any of the haters can say about me or Halo.
Regardless of what anyone else thinks of my perpetual fondness for Halo, I want to thank Bungie for what they created. I realize you guys aren't in control of Halo anymore, but you still started it. New games come and go, rise and fall, and pass away into dust. Series grow to be mega-hits, but they will all die someday. Even Halo will one day die. But even after Halo has fallen and sunk into the sands of time, I will remember, and I will still endeavor to enjoy it.
And if just one person that helped create any of the Halo games reads this, and smiles, I will be forever grateful to have had that opportunity, too. All because of this series.
Thank you to everyone that helped make Halo what it has been and is: the best series I've ever played. To the creators and the players, thank you all.
Never forget.
