I'M A FIRIN' MY LASER!

Is it the same as in the forums, or is it an update?

I assume you are referring to the Aleph One versions of Marathon, Marathon Durandal, and Marathon Infinity discussed in this stickied thread.

The Aleph One and Marathon described in the news post are updated versions of those found on the forums. The Aleph One 1.0 engine has new features and is more user friendly than older versions. Most importantly, it is easier than ever to install.

Just download the compressed file of the game you want from sourceforge.net, open the compressed file, copy the folder and all of its contents to you computer, then run the executable file to play the game.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the damn thing to work.

What's your issue?

Assuming you clicked download on whatever game you're trying to get, unpacked the archive and just double-clicked the .exe, you should be good.

How do I unpack it? (I suck at this kind of thing)

United Armed Forces

Assuming it's a .zip file, then you need to download either 7zip or WinRAR.

Suggest 7-zip.

I'm actually ashamed to have seen that post.

Provided you're on Windows, WinZip should be built in. There's probably an option if you right click. Same on Mac. Given that you don't know how to unzip, I doubt you're on Linux.

EDIT: Get 7zip. It's simply great, mate, waiting on the levee, waiting for the Robert E. Lee Oh won't you.

What now? It's not doing anything.

I see no option. (I know less than nothing about this. I am embarrassed about this as well)

Trust me, calling putting the contents of one folder into another "Do-It Yourself" is beyond awful.

Let me spell this out for you:

First off, next post, tell me your OS (Operating System, that would be Windows or Mac OS. You know it's windows if there's a symbol in the bottom left hand corner that says either START or has a flag with the colors Red, Green, Blue, and yellow.)

Okay, go to: http://www.7-zip.org/

Now, click on the link showed circled in this picture: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/507/idiotxj.png/

It should say Download, and be colored blue.

You will be here now: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/files/7-Zip/9.20/7z9 20.exe/download

The file should automatically download. I'm assuming your internet browser is Internet Explorer, which I don't know too much about, but I know the downloading procedure. A bar will pop up below the window you type in web addresses.

Right click this, and choose to download the file. Alternatively, this might not pop up and the file will instantly download. It will take five seconds for the file to begin downloading.

Choose to open the file. A prompt will pop up. Click "Install". It will install. Then exit the setup.

Now, the right button on your mouse comes in handy here. You will need to navigate to the location you have downloaded marathon to. You will right click the file. If you do not know right from left, ask somebody who can help you.

The scroll-down menu shown in that picture should appear. Move down to 7zip, then to extract here. The files will extract to the location the ZIP is currently on. With any luck, you will have Marathon.

I already downloaded 7-zip, although apparently I did something wrong. (I also you Chrome, thank you very much. I'm not as hopeless as you think). Anyway, I think it's working.
