If you're a professional at something you have to be paid. It's a part of it being a "Profession". On the other hand they're not amateurs in the sense of how skillful they are.
Definition for Professional:
"pro·fes·sion·al
Adjective:
1. Of, relating to, or connected with a profession.
Noun:
2. A person engaged or qualified in a profession."
Definition for Profession:
"pro·fes·sion
Noun:
1. A paid occupation, esp. one that involves prolonged training and a formal qualification.
2. A body of people engaged in a particular profession."
There are two definitions of Amateur. Here they are:
"amateurs 'am·a·teur' (Noun)
Noun:
1. A person who engages in a pursuit, esp. a sport, on an unpaid basis.
2. A person considered contemptibly inept at a particular activity."
While Tempus immediately associates the word with the 2nd meaning, the OP immediately associates the word with the first meaning. It's apparent that the OP sees that they're just as skillful as professionals, (Else wise he wouldn't bring such attention to the mod with enthusiasm) but to anyone that associates the word with the second meaning it seems like he is, in a way, insulting them.
You can even be a professional yet be terrible at the same time. If you want a reference to that happening just look at a host of terrible games. Sonic 06, Superman 64, etc.
Skillful=/=Professional
