@spaboolly

I hate to seem like I'm stealing ideas here, but a few other sites I go on have regular "Featured Users" to give recognition to upstanding members. Might be cool to have something like that on Bnet.

Perhaps an idea like - "member of the week" or something along those lines?

I'd go for that. It'd probably just be Mythics and stuff being featured all the time, but it's still a good idea.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I doubt it, I think it would be quite inclusive. There are many users here that are awesome and don't have that Prefix.

I'm neutral to this idea.

I agree 100%, but do you think they'd actually get picked? I don't. It'd just be the members everyone knew getting picked, rather than small guys from like The Flood or something.

Ninjas are volunteers and are not required nor asked to patrol a certain forum.

More mods is a double edged sword.

If there were more mods, more people would get banned (maybe for silly things) and it may affect how people post afraid of everyone watching. On a flip side more mods being too active may cause threads to get off topic as people try to kiss up to the mods.

But, I still think we should have some more active mods. There is nothing wrong with letting some people know you are watching so the trolls get discouraged.

@spaboolly

Amending my idea:

To prevent certain level members (Mythics, Legendaries, etc) getting picked all the time maybe they can rotate the group they choose from. "Mythic Member of the Week." Then "Heroic Member of the Week." "Member of the Week." And so forth.

Better?

You could say we have a ton of shadow mods know. Only like 7-9 mods from HFCS post regularly. The other 38 just don;t ever post and all they do it Lurk.

I suppose. There's not really a need for them to post anywhere but HFCS, and sometimes not even there, but I still wish that they would post more often.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

I'm working on getting a community URL shortener. Having some complications with the Bitly API unfortunately.

That site isn't even working for me. Does goo.gl have an API that you can use?

Hence why the suggestions were made.

More mods is a double edged sword.

If there were more mods, more people would get banned (maybe for silly things) and it may affect how people post afraid of everyone watching. On a flip side more mods being too active may cause threads to get off topic as people try to kiss up to the mods.

Hence why mods devoted to specific sections. Having two or three mods monitoring the flood only might reduce the trolling and the racist/inflammatory posts. Additionally, having them devoted to that forum specifically, a general standard of what to ban and what to "let go" would be developed, so two people who post the same topic don't end up with one being banned for "Discussing Violence" while the other is not.

Experience nets consistency.

But, I still think we should have some more active mods. There is nothing wrong with letting some people know you are watching so the trolls get discouraged.

See...not a bad idea at all.

Are you suggesting that we make it a position one could lose due to not meeting a quota? Bad idea.

No. What I'm suggesting is that certain Ninjas be responsible for moderating certain forums instead of being responsible for ALL forums.

Like (names just thrown out there, not actual assignment proposals) Qbix, Forman and Duardo watch Flood and Classifieds; someone else looks at Reach/Halo 3; someone else at the the other forums (like many of the automotive forums do it).

It's definitely a proposal that would require more Ninjas, but not one that puts people on a quota - just stops spreading Ninjas so thin, since they have lives outside of Bnet and are volunteers.

It's like working somewhere as an accountant and having to balance the books and go on sales presentations and run human resources as well as new hire training/orientation. You may do an adequate job, but you're spread thin so you're not doing any of them as well as you could if you had less to focus on.

I see you point with your posts. However there is one common flaw with it. These moderators aren't getting paid for their services here. This is pure volunteer work. If, however, this was much more highly organized and such perhaps more moderators could be undertaken to cover all forums in primetime for all timezones, then you could expect every forum to be covered.

The way the moderation is now though isn't to far a field from the ideal though. Usually threads that need locking and banning are done within 30 minutes or so of being posted.

Remember that everything you read in the OP isn't all my ideas. This is a compialation of the community. And honestly, the idea of changing the flood around isn't to far fetched.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.
