Bungie likes to keep the place clean, and I think it's for the best.

Chuck Liddell has that kind of weird, mohawk wearing, incoherent badass thing going. Frankie Edgar is like the nice guy down the street who helps you move in your furniture.

"I'm running for my life and you're in space?!"

I agree to an extent. I'd love to have custom avis, embed pictures and YouTube videos. Add a post count to that too.

Seriously guys, spend a week on a different forum. I love somethingawful's forums.

They should implement these features, but also give people an option to disable them. For example, if people didn't want to see sigs or smilies, they can go to their account info and uncheck some kind of box that will disable it. Everybody wins.

:D <-That looks lame.

:)) <-So does that.

Custom avatars?

lolno, especially with this forum's very doubtable maturity level.

If you really want a custom avatar, download the Coup script.

I am taking this serious. :P

Yeah, all that stuff would be great, but we will need to wait for another 1.5 million years.

Bungie realises that you don't need anything fancy (in terms of forums) to attract a bunch of people that play and enjoy their games. There should be no need to have anything more than what we have. You can consider yourselves lucky... I would call a hardcore Bungie fan someone that doesn't even need an avatar...

Bnet isn't perfect but I find it far better than any other forums out there. Simple is beautiful. This strategy works. Bnet will get many upgrades over time no doubt. However, I doubt Bungie will ever add custom avatars or smileys. Also I personally don't wan't smileys and custom avatars. The Bnet community doesn't always have the most mature people in the world and seeing genitals as avatars and smiley spam will just cause problems. Besides smileys are idiotic to look at anyway, the regular text smileys is where it's at :P

Custom avatars?

Just download Coup like the rest of us.

I kinda like it this way. I hate when I get on a forum and half of each page is some gaudy junk that has nothing to do with anything I went there for. I don't really feel like the purpose of this particular forum is "artistic" self-expression, either.

SO yeah, Custom avis for everyone, post embedding, and smiley sets....

After what I've seen on here, there is good reason to keep all of those features away from the general public. Do you really want to give all these children those features?

Think about all the extra moderating that would have to be done to make sure "custom avis" and such are appropriate. Do you really want to put that much work on our mods? It's bad enough that I'm already making Yoozel cook me food...

Custom Avis for everyone: The mods would complain for years to come.

We would?

If you think the reason we moderate is for the custom avatar, you're beyond insane.
False. I know for a fact Gods Prophet only ever posts to show off his kickass avatar.

When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box

I'm glad Bnet doesn't have any of that garbage. Every site that does looks like Time Square. Unneeded and Unwanted. It's visual litter.

Lol... thanks. I turned coup off (lappy's precious memory must be conserved). I just wanted to put my preferred avatar up. Although, I do wish Antulio would strum slower, I wouldn't want to annoy or give a seizure to anyone.

Maybe I can make it slower when I learn about making a GIF.

The lack of custom avatars and smilies is by design. The first is because we don't feel like managing the Internet's collective perversions (or dealing with issues of hosting images that we don't own). Smilies are just stupid looking - cluttering up the actual content. Same goes for signatures. They just clutter up the page - if someone wants info about you, they can click through to your profile. Most users won't, because, well, they don't care.

While there are a few features that we probably do need to add, they're mostly in the realm of sorts/searching. You know, useful stuff, not silly stuff like smilies.

So, for future reference, is it safe to say that we'll never see any of those implemented?

  • 12.05.2011 2:15 PM PDT

I like the layout of these forums. They have a streamlined look. In general I find sigs, smileys and such to be clutter.

But to each there own I suppose.

  • 12.05.2011 2:23 PM PDT

I run Skirmish!!!

wow, i cannot believe you are complaining about useless items such as colorful smilies, really? have you nothing else to complain about OP?
This site is clean and compared to other forums that have signatures everywhere, smilies in the middle of sentences and if there were custom avatars, imagine all the ones with "flashing and movement" that would be a headache for a thread...

there are many other forums such as the 343i forums that are a headache to be on and this one is so well set up and clean.

this site is good as is, and if you don't like it, you should probably just leave.

  • 12.05.2011 2:34 PM PDT

The way I see it? I'd rather have awesome games and solid matchingmaking than awesome forums. (also because I hardly use 'em anyhow >>)

The same could be said for avatars though. They're just as stupid and unnecessary as smilies, and even clutter up the page somewhat.

It's not like I would use them myself, but not implementing smilies because they look 'silly' seems like a cop out - especially considering numerous things on this site could be considered the same.

Time stamp anyone?
