Actual Signatures? I almost forgot about those. I dont get why this place is set up like its 1998

Nobody wants that crap.

sigs would clutter the forums but this system could use some updates

The lack of custom avatars and smilies is by design. The first is because we don't feel like managing the Internet's collective perversions (or dealing with issues of hosting images that we don't own). Smilies are just stupid looking - cluttering up the actual content. Same goes for signatures. They just clutter up the page - if someone wants info about you, they can click through to your profile. Most users won't, because, well, they don't care.

While there are a few features that we probably do need to add, they're mostly in the realm of sorts/searching. You know, useful stuff, not silly stuff like smilies.

Also... this website is for a game developer company. They want simple forums so that Bungie Employees can actually read what everyone is saying. Right?

Man dont even get me started on the actual content of this place, this forum in particular....... It would need its own separate thread. I mean you guys have all seen these features work on countless other forums, but just because Acrhonos doesnt like it you all blindly agree. Sadness

Blindly?

This forum is discuss the games Bungie makes... not to make obnoxious signatures, avatars, etc... Just get coup...

I agree. We do not blindly agree with everything Bungie does. I like the format of the forum, because it is clean and simple.

Define "work" for us, if you would.
Look at NikeTalk. They have all those things that I mentioned and yet, no one has huge screen cluttering sigs, no one posts pics that are against the rules, and the smileys arent even over used. They just take the place of saying "lol"

The only thing I do not approve of, would be smileys. They tend to make the messages much more informal and make users sounds like immature people. Nothing is worse than seeing twenty smileys in one small post/text/email or anything else.

I like the design how is. It's simple and organized; I have to disable 90% of coup because I only use it specifically to change my Username. I don't like seeing Avatars that don't fit in, or flashy titles that catch my eye.

The only feature I will ever care is missing, is to be notified if someone replies to me.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

If we're using other sites as references, then I'd like to reference every site that allows image tags. Threads become challenges to post a better picture than the person above you, and it's rather annoying when you're trying to have a discussion and then the thread is ruined by people posting pictures.
On a smaller site you could just ban the people and get back on discussion, but on here it would move too fast to be brought back and the thread would have to be locked.

Sorry BeMe, can't agree with you on this one. I HATE almost every forum out there save for a few features. The Rooster Teeth forums (among others) have it set up to where each thread says how many replies there have been since you last viewed it, and you can click on a link to take you to the oldest reply that you have not seen. That would be the only thing this forum needs.

This, and one other thing I would like to mention while Achronos and the other moderators are looking here:

The forums over at AbsolutePunk.net (NOT .COM, DO NOT TRY THE .COM) have a feature much like the PM system here on b.net, but it alerts you when a post you made has been quoted, and a link to follow to bring you to that post. That would be a cool feature to have here instead of clicking back on threads to see if someone responded to you, especially when you're in conversations in 4-5 threads at a time.

Well Bungie is sorry that the forums aren't 12 & under for you. The ponies & butterflies will be here very soon.

This times a googolplex.

One of the best things about Bungie.net is it's ability to keep it's simplicity without getting tired (though some would disagree on the "tired" aspect). I love Bungie.net the way it is, and while I would like to see some new things (like the ability to have a list of favorite users or "friends"), I wouldn't want to change the site all that drastically.

What's the old saying? "If it 'aint broke, don't fix it."

New features - version 2.1
+ Added thread previews and the option to make it preview all threads on load, preview separate threads or none.

+ Changed the location of the options bar. It is now fixed and at the bottom of your screen. It can also be hidden.

+ Private message notification. A fixed box that appears when you receive a message, and displays the title of the message, username of the sender and the time and date it was sent.

+ Added an option to disable reply loading when you scroll to the bottom of the window.

New features - version 2.5
+ Bar location is changeable.

+ Topic previews can be expanded to the full thread. Options for what topics to preview.

+ Parse URLs after load. Choose which pages to parse URLs on.

+ Toggle the private message notification on and off.

New features - version 2.6
+ Option to only preview six topics instead of all or no pinned or top.

New features - version 2.7
+ Trimmed the code slightly.

+ Parsed URL elements and elements created with the script within loaded replies or threads now function as they should.

New features - version 2.8
+ Added thread hiding, replaced pinned thread hiding with this.

+ Additional option when expanding threads, instant full topic, or preview like before.

Protip: Parsing URLs can make your browser slow during the time it is parsing, therefore, loading in previews while parsing URLs is enabled for topic-view, can make your browser a bit slow temporarily.

Firefox: Shi_options.user.js
Chrome: Shi_options.crx
Might work with other browsers (Opera, Safari) but I haven't tested the script with them.

Also, Chrome users who have version 2.6 or earlier installed have to delete the old script and install the latest one. Lost the PEM because of a failed data backup.

Edit: updated to version 2.8.

Take Notes Bungie.
