I'm just curious, why do you think people play co-op matchmaking?

I think they play co-op matchmaking because they need help with some of the campaign missions or they just want to level up and complete some missions without having to play solo.

Also, why is it that you have to wait until you get to a certain rank to play co-op matchmaking?

Ooh, I love those people, the ones who decide to throw everything and the kitchen sink at you, as if an M16 does anything to a T-90. Oh, MLG player with noobtube instead? Congrats! You blew off one of my ablative plates!

Gun, meet Bad Guy.
Bad Guy, this is Gun.

Because it can be fun sometimes meeting other people online, see how they do the campaign or have their own way of completing missions. It also allows for a -blam!- load of cR if you are the only one and you wait for at least an hour before completing the mission.

More Cr. Or they just suck. Or they don't have anyone else to play with.
