In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

The Gravemind, the forerunners could barely handle the Flood.

Flood. Hands down. Unlike most other species, all they need to survive is have a single spore survive out of containment/quarantine. In addition, they are incredibly powerful, and can survive almost anywhere. They are also a hive mind, with individual units able to think for themselves. They are almost unbeatable.

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

The hunters were a hive species, so the flood cant infect them. Hunters are the best defense against the flood, asides from Halo.

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

Depends who's point of view we are in.

I agree. The Flood were powerful enough to force the Forerunners into using an extreme solution.

There were so many factors around that war. The forerunners could have beaten them if they weren't so arrogant.

That is an excellent point. The forerunners were divided, and they were weakened.

It isn't even that had they took the flood seriously from the start they would have been fine. And if they just dropped their balls and asked the humans for helped that would have solved everything.

If they had decided not to trust powder sent over in ships from another galaxy, they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.

Yeah few people realize just how pathetic the Flood really are. The Gravemind is a different story...

I agree. I prefer fighting Covanent. The Flood bore me. I think the Zerg are much more interesting than the Flood.

My honor student can beat up your honor student.

I'd have to say the Flood Juggernauts that were deleted from Halo 2. A friend and I played against them after he hacked the game so that they appeared at their spawn points in the level "High Charity." Man, they were nasty.

I've seen videos of people fighting those things. I'm actually very glad Bungie didn't put them in.

The Flood mind as a whole. We have yet to stop what Flood is in the galaxy, let alone whatever else lurks in extragalactic space.

Has the true power of the Flood ever been seen? Was it actually demonstrated in the Flood-Forerunner/Ancient Human war?

I believe it was demonstrated in the forerunner-flood war.

I just don't know how they could have lost.

Lets say every Forerunner went into a corner or a hall, was equipped with an easy flood killing weapon. Now lets say every Forerunner killed 20 Flood. They would have won.

It's just annoying how you see Zombie movies and everyone in the world is a zombie save a million or a thousand. How the hell did they become like that. Zombies walk slowly, have no advantage in range and can only eat. This would be the same as what happened to the forerunners.

Even when they were in crisis, why not just flee. Why let every single one of yourselves die?
