Here is the thing.

When I used to play on the halo servers( I don't have the internet anymore) =( I would play blood gulch a lot and all my kills were by the bases where people spawned. When I killed them they would call me a camper, but whenever I would try to run from there and go someone else they would spawn and shoot me. Now I just don't let people shoot me so I turn around and kill them, and when I kill them and try to run more spawn and the process repeats itself. Would you call this camping or just unlucky. Or has anyone else expierenced wrongfull accusations like this? If so then consider this a place to blow off some steam

Spawn-killing is consider weak, nooby, (insert negative adjective here). However, spawn-killing needs to be defined. Here is my definition.

Spawn-killing - the act of staying in the vicinity of the enemies spawn area and attacking players as they spawn. Re-spawning players don't get to act for about a full sec after they appear, giving the spawn-killer an enormous advantage over the spawnee. Taking advantage of this advantage is what is unfair. If the player sees you and engages you and you out shoot him your all good. Hanging around on the top of the base on Blood Gulch armed with Rockets Fuelrod and nades and obliterating people as they appear is cheap period.

Don't listen to Igg, he IS a spawn killer. He has a video to prove it!

I don't think that's spawnkilling. Those guys you fought were probably just losers who don't like to die.

Anyways, Iggwilv specifically stated that he didn't spawn kill in that video, because it is unsporting.

*sigh*

I know that.

Merely an attempt at humor there.

Please forgive me.

I'll never try and be funny again.

I'm a moron.

So on and so forth.

Et cetera, et cetera.

Aww, I forgive you McKeegan, the first step to redemption is admitting you're a complete idiot! Nah, I'm just messing with ya.

I am the worst spawn killer evarr!!!

There's a difference between spawn-killing and camping, y'know. Spawn killing is as you mentioned above, and usually requires lots of running around, going up the top of the base and spamming the poor bastards below with fuel bursts and rockets, then jumping down and continuing etc etc.

Camping is when you stay still for long periods of time overlooking places of importance: Like staying in a tank or banshee on DI next to the teleporter, like sniping from the side-balconies on Ice Fields, or on the cliff on Danger Canyon, or sniping from your base again on ice fields. Camping usually occurs next to teleporters. That is camping, and fairly different to spawning-killing. Both are considered to be irritating, and bad manners by some, and fair game by others.

Spawn camping is when you combine the two, like staying in a tank at DI next to the base. It's not very effective, as you'll get swarmed over eventually.

No, it shouldn't be. If they shoot at you first, you have the "right" to shoot back.

I think the term "camping" is too broad of a term. If you were sitting inside your base with a flamethrower covering your flag, that's not camping, that's defense. If you hiding behind a rock with a rocket launcher and shooting people who walk by, that's camping. If your on a ridge with a sniper rifle, that's not camping, cuz that's what snipers do, they sit in concealment and pick people off from a distance.

I think camping is a rather stupid thing to get worked up over. Everyone has thier own playing style, that includes finding a vantage point and useing it to your advantage. And if you get repeatedly killed by a camper, well, you're just dumb then, since if you get camp killed once, you know he's still gunna be there, so you eitherfind another way, or use his immobility against him.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color

Depending on the game set up, (e.g. CTF, BG, snipers, no shields), your team may have to spawn kill for you to get away with the flag.

I've never understood some server's rules about camping, either TP camping or base camping. If you were in an actual conflict and a TP that you could not shut off led into your base, you'd do something to block it, or postion someone to frag any unwanted guests that come through.

Same with the guy behing the boulder with a rocket launcher– do you let the enemy just drive right up to your base or do you find a bottleneck and use it?

Once recently, I think it was on the MAW server, I got on the bridge in Ice Fields and "camped." I was using the rockets to blast any enemy who tried to go under or over. I was told not to "camp" and I had to move on– server rules. Don't know if they were pulling my leg. Every team that wins on IF camps the bridge. If you own the bridge, you win, 99 times out of 100.

Bungie screwed up when they made the spawning work like it does– you should spawn in invisible and invulnerable, but also unable to inflict damage. You should be able to move for 5 seconds before you become visible and vulnerable– unless you start shooting, then you become visable and vulnerable right away.

Once someone spawns and you kill them before 3 or 4 seconds of them holding totally still that is spawn killing. If someone spawns and within 3 or 4 seconds move weather it be running, just looking around, or shooting they are fare game. Once someone has spawned and they do not move for 3 or 4 seconds they are fare game.

spawn killing is:

1:cheap
2:lame
3:easy
4: can be considered a tactic, before you get all mad at me, read this, If your teammate is getting the flag, and people are spawning all around him, are you seriously going to wait and let them retaliate?
