I should probably also asy that it seems like Bungie has put a lot of work on that particular map. Even in the composite image it seems to be much higher resolution that the other maps.
I'd like to direct you to a little something.
Bungie made the entire planet of Reach.
I've said elsewhere plenty of times that I think Reach to them was a big bucket of prototypes and practices for Bungie to get themselves ready and prepared for Destiny. I think the reason they made the full world map of Reach was so that they could design the whole world of where Destiny is based on. I don't think that this is a "level map" I think this is a small fragment of a planet.
Did you just say what I think you said. Are you you saying we are going to have the ability to roam an entire planet!?Well, we've seen in other places and articles that the game will have aspects of a sort of open-world MMO. I don't know if it will actually be an entirely roamable planet, but it could definitely be the creation of a map so you know where you are and where you have to go. It could more be that, like most MMOs, you're given an entire city design and a way to transport yourself between A and B, to get to C. I'm pretty confident this will be done on a planetary scale. Maybe multiple planets. Gah, I'm speculating like mad here.
Like, remember that New Mombasa map in ODST? Bungie only made ODST and Reach because it was in their contract with Microsoft to do "another 2 Halo games", so it seems to be that Bungie were slipping in things to test for their next IP. I think that the navigation and the city map were another hint to what's yet to come.
I really don't know for sure, though, but I've been piecing all of these things from articles and from cryptic things Bungie have said both here on Bnet and at exhibitions, panels and to journalists...and...
...well, I'm pretty excited.
Well, we saw that mountain tool in the Vidoc, so that means there must be alot of them. Lots of Mountains = Big place.
As long as they have the tech.
In ODST there is about 4 more maps the same size as Mombasa streets on the outsides of the city walls. I see no reason why they would have put them there, unless they were testing "Stuff" out like you said.
I can tell you that it is not an MMO. If you read all of the job descriptions you will know why. I gathered it was open-worlded though.
I already have a basic outline of how the game. There is just tooooooooo much stuff to write.
