We should know better, because we are better.

I like step 3.1 a lot, but where is step 3? Also, why is the mountain so steep near the top?

Nice work, but aren't the mountain tops a bit too high or are they really supposed to look like that?
They're a little exaggerated. This is my first time playing around with heightmaps (you basically paint in white-grey-black values to determine height, so it can be quite difficult). I've gathered a better way of doing it and should refine it better soon enough. I was mostly just wanting to throw together a video to test how it would look.Nonetheless, I like the way you demonstrated the size of the map with the Warthog model. What did you base it on anyway? As far as I know we only have the number 40,000 that could be anything.Honestly? I just scaled it manually and guessed. I figure that the 1-40000 is in metres, though. That would put the mountain at about 10 km (6.2 miles) width and 8 km (5 miles) breadth. Seems accurate to me.

It could be in yards, but I highly doubt that for two reasons: metres tend to be the "futuristic" measuring scale, and if it were in yards, we wouldn't likely get such an accurately round number. I don't think it's in centimetres and I don't think it's in miles or kilometres, so the only thing that makes sense is to say that it's in a metric scale of metres.

I'm definitely going to be a little off, but I'll calculate it properly when I'm doing my proper scaling ideas. The Warthog is 3.2 metres in length, so for scaling purposes, that'll do nicely.

Nice work as always. Leave it to SonicJohn to take on a lolhueg ambitious art project. Now get to work on Elysia!
Haha, yes, leave it to me. And yes, yes, Spar, I'm working on Elysia as we speak. All these lines of dialogue and storyboards aren't going to write themselves ;)

Any of you guys think 'Destiny' is the same project as Blizzard's 'Titan'?
As mentioned by many others, I certainly don't believe so. Bungie's project's codename is "Tiger" and Blizzard's codename is "Titan". I believe they're entirely different projects. Blizzard have, however, offered to help Bungie out with anything they may need assistance with, but I believe that's on more of a chummy "Hey-can-I-help?" level than an actual collaboration.

OP, are you an Ashes to Ashes fan, by any chance?
I've never watched it since I tend not to keep up with shows (I'm busy doing crazay projects like this), but I probably would be if I saw it. Why d'you ask?

I made another thread a while ago you might be interested in. Ignore the "Aerospace" stuff and just replace it with "big server things".

Heh, as I mentioned, I'm getting to it. The shape is definitely entirely off from what it would be. It's too rounded instead of sloping too, so I need to make the darker values slope closer to the steep sections if I'm going to get that nice incline that we're used to in mountains.

I've been caught off-guard with life-happenings. Was looking after my grandmother whilst my grandfather was in hospital with cancer, so fun things like this have been taking a backburner. I'll be getting to it soon though, don't worry!

Thanks for staying interested. I'm looking forward to getting back on track with this project soon. If anyone finds anymore pieces of the map, or hints from Bungie, send them my way. I'll be looking out for them too :)

Yeah I knew there's a 'Tiger' and a 'Titan'. You have to think though.. It adds more secrecy to the project (if my thinking is correct, obviously- I could be way off) if Bungie's side of the project is leaked [Destiny/aka 'Tiger'] there's still not a complete leak because Blizzard's side of the project ['Titan'] is still under wraps.. Obviously what they'd want for the time being.
You have to admit, Tiger and Titan are pretty closely related (syllables, spelling, opening 'tie' sound..). I'd think at the early stages that only the senior decision makers would know that, what Bungie are doing will be combined with what Blizzard are doing. MMO-obv.Blizzard's domain, FPS-obv. Bungie's domain. (MMOFPS- guesswork I know, but it sounds like the way the game world wants to be headed, so I'm thinking the two best creators of MMOs and FPSs would be getting on that wagon lol)

Like I said earlier, only ActiBlizzBungie know the real deal, I'm just guessing and hoping :) Nice job putting together the clues though dude. Try keeping it up!

No problem, mate. Your work is brilliant!

I'm sure you're already checking it out, but in Bungie's recent 'Happy Holidays' front-page there are some stars on there. You may want to check that out, and see if it fits on to bungie.net's background.

I can't, because I'm lazy. You can, because you seem great and committed with these, as I would give up at the first hurdle.

Keep up the good work, John.

Big emphasis on gunfire, BOOM BOOM screen shakes with a slight zoom in.
cross between DeadOps arcade, WoW, Halo, Diablo.
play fps, tps, or with an isometric view(small scope around the reticle)
when you hit the 'head-shots' camera will turn under your player for a real-time-instant-'replay' of what you're doing right now (hard to explain)
Huge focus on bringing the player in to the battle. You really know when you just pulled the trigger and trying to get a real feel of 'watch what you just made your character do' during battles.

I can understand the concept of meters, I'm european after all. :)

I was more confused by the fact that in what sense was the scale given. Usually the scale on maps means how many centimeters one centimeter on the map would be in the enviroment, in this case one centimeter being 40,000 in the "real" enviroment of the map. The problem with this is obvious, we don't know what should the size of the map really be. It could be anything from a small paper to a huge poster, this could mean that the width of the area shown on the map could be anywhere from 2 kilometers to 50 kilometers.

Of course by now I have realised that the you figured out the 40,000 would mean the width of the portrayed area in meters which seems fairly accurate, judging by the sizes of the mountains.

Overlaid the Happy Holidays front-page graphic from the update on top of my composite.

Here are my thoughts:

What I find most interesting is that one of the circles sits quite neatly above the big sphere that we've seen elsewhere. Seems awfully curious to me that it's in such proximetry. Not only that, but recall the Dead Orbit graphic. Looks reasonably similar. Some subliminal hinting maybe? I think so.

As for what precisely the small circles represent. If I had to guess, I'd say objectives or locations. They look like waypoints. Could be villages or buildings, hidden items, quest items, weapon locations...anything, really. But that's what I think of them.

Edit: also, some food for thought. Interested in getting some feedback and discussion going on this:

Cortana 5 (on Skype): so i was looking at the 3D map... the mountains look like boobs, to be honest. perhaps they're volcanoes, instead? the trick would be figuring out where the volcano becomes concave

Seems obvious enough to me. Each of the little nipples at the "peak" of each mountain are more like representative gaping holes, so perhaps they're the volcano tops? Makes much more sense, and of course, volcanoes are just awesome. Makes them much more interesting than simply being mountains with some snow on top.

Per Audacia Ad Astra!

Waiting for Destiny is a very good blog with some intersting speculation, i think the MMO genre could be left for a while behind the wall. Like SonicJohn i feel this map has the taste of an Open world environment. A lot of sandbox game are successful nowadays : GTA, Skyrim, Minecraft or Fallout it mean on thing for us -> huge possibility for the player.

So the picture we see in ODST "Destiny awaits" can reinforce your theory of a huge planet... but did the current gen is able to generate so much data ?
And about the last two Halo game, we can see them as you said before like a sort of experiment.

ODST for the map : New Mombasa is kind of huge and you feel it when you're moving on the street without vehicle.

Reach : Cartography of the planet and maybe Space combat was an hypothetical test for travelling and fighting on the map (look at "Long night of solace" mission)

"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

While I am excited to see what Bungie has in store for us either way, MMO or not, I have to say I am firmly planted in the mindset that it WILL be MMO. There's alot of evidence that points to it, especially during some of the ViDoc's. Many of Bungie's members mention how Bungie has always wanted to do open world, and Multiplayer is a massive part of what they do, what better way to combine that than in an MMO?

Now this may just be my experience talking, since I've played WoW from close to its release date I may have just grown fond of MMO's and am hoping to see one from Bungie (really, how awesome would that be?) but there was also the scrapped Halo MMO that most people don't remember. Also, I think that some of the evidence points to this game being a MMO largely in part to Bungie changing everything.

Numerous employes have stated (and it is pretty much common knowledge) that Bungie will break barriers with their next game, and there is no better way to do that with an MMO. ESPECIALLY if it is ported to the Xbox 360 / PS3 (which seems quite likely at this point). Based on the factions (or the trademarks that we presume to be factions) it points to an MMO as well, while it is easy to integrate a faction based system, or even factions in general into ANY type of game, it is even easier in an MMO.

All in all I can't wait for the next game, whether said game is an MMO, a RTS, a FPS, or anything else in between it will be great!

What's up guys? Been real busy recently. Started a new job (working in an indoor skatepark, which is pretty sweet) so I've had minimal time to commit to this project. Don't want to do too much more painterly stuff just yet...though I do want to mess with the volcano idea. Been waiting for a new morsel of information to appear, really.

And today it seems that just the right thing has appeared.

Foman tipped me off in a PM about this Bungie Destiny Christmas Card he came across.

Note the dot locations. Look different? Yup. They've been moved up a bunch of pixels, rotated and now appear to line up with mountain peaks. Seems they were definitely places of interest. Nav-points, you could say. I would say that this one is more accurate than the one Bungie used for the front page. I believe the front-page one was done the way it was so that it didn't disrupt the angle of the site background nebulas.

Here's the revised schematic:
