Okay, so this is in relation to ncsuDuncan's annotated composite map.
As you can see he's highlighted several words and phrases that are hidden within the bits of the map that Bungie has release and, while they're next to illegible in some cases, I think they could be very useful in finding out stuff about Destiny's universe (early on).
The words within the map that have been identified so far are as follows:
"Puerto Drin" - This is a location that seems to be near water. And, considering the word "puerto" means "port" in Spanish (Puerto Rico meaning "Rich Port"). This hints to it being an ARG. Something set on Earth but in a separate Universe as the geography is unlike any geography of any Continent on Earth. This is perhaps one of the most important pieces of info we have about the storyline and universe of Destiny so far.
"Village Range" - This could hint to it being a pre-modern-era game. Or, perhaps a post-modern game in which society has reverted to a primitive, tribe based civilization.
"Most ..." - This section is near one of the perforations in the Map (where one segment meets another) and seems to be cut off. This is signified by him labeling it as "Most -". Because of this, not much can be gathered from this one for now.
"Triple Try Ridge" - While the name itself may not make so much sense out of context, it does seem to be a geographical anomaly that leads into one of the Volcanoes (depicted in SonicJohn's 3D Map)
"Fresh Water" - The significance of this being only that this area denotes a source of freshwater. Nothing special, really.
"Scale 40,000" - Perhaps a way to figure out the way that distance is measured either in this universe or just exclusively on this map? Not quite sure.
Now, the rest of these are not deciphered by Duncan, but I think I might have a go at them.
The first is located North-West of "Most..." and directly South of "Numbers in the Water". It's been circled by Duncan. After close inspection, I think I've been able to decipher the first and last words of the tri-word phrase, but not the one in the middle. "Astra [unintelligible] Man". As most of us know by know, Astra, in latin, means "stars". But, as most of us probably don't know (and I didn't until I looked it up) is that "Man" translates to Manna. I didn't know what this word meant, and so, obviously, I looked it up. It means "any sudden or unexpected help, advantage, or aid to success." or "divine or spiritual food.". So, as my last hypothesis as I seem to be beginning to hypothesize within hypotheses and my statements are becoming less and less reality based, perhaps for the people in the area, this is some sort of sea who's creatures provide much needed nourishment for them? Perhaps they get their food from fishing in this sea? I don't know.
The last one I'm going to look at is not nearly as interesting as the last. It's at the very top of the page and I'm only going to attempt to decipher what it says, as it seems to not mean anything in English, Spanish, or Latin. It seems to read "Gurnmura" or "Guramura". This could be the name of a town, an inlet, a dock, a coastline. I'm not sure.
So, feel free to discuss my findings and the map itself. Critique. Expand. What have you.
