I'm new to competitive Halo and Halo itself (Reach being my first video game ever actually). Message me if you want to play;

Reach: MLG, Arena, Doubles, BTB and customs.
Halo 3: Ranked MM and customs.

Also I have every Halo title and all of its DLC on the Xbox 360.

If there was no halo 1,2,3,and odst, then reach would simply be Halo 1, not reach:)

If those games had never been developed, I think peoples' views would definitely change. Everybody seems to compare Reach to their favorite halo, and fail to realize it is its own game.
I'm unsatisfied with Reach because I tend to wrongfully compare it to Halo 3, my favorite of the series; but if H3 didn't exist, then I might have a different opinion towards Reach.

Its an interesting thought...

as I said earlier, it wouldn't be "halo" since there's no halo ring in the game (last cutscene doesn't count)

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

I would probably like Reach then, because it would be the defining installation for the franchise. It would set the bar in terms of gameplay, storytelling, ect. for future installments. All complaining about Reach is comparative to previous Halo games. With Reach being the first in the series, it would probably still get its share of complaints, but not nearly in the volume that it currently has.

As I've said many times before, I don't think Reach is a bad game overall. It's just a bad Halo game.

It wouldn't fade away like Homefront or other FPSs, a community would still linger on maybe because of forge and B.net Stats, maybe even the cool picture take would make people playing. Reach has a lot of unique features that other games don't offer.

Then the series might have had a different name, b/c it can't be used as a prequel, and "Reach" wouldn't work. I wonder....

  • 12.05.2011 3:53 PM PDT

Hmm. Not a clue.

I mean, if the other games never existed, a lot of things would be different. A lot of games based on Halo things would probably be changed. In that regard, Reach would be pretty darned original. So maybe it'd be good.

Can't say. It wouldn't have the same fame.

I'd probably like its art style more though, considering right now I just dislike it because I preferred the more vibrant scheme of the other Halos'.

How about "Generic Space Marine Story"?

What do you think brought you into the Halo franchise, Burrito? I know that, for me, it was the lively colors that got me started. I can't imagine people flocking to "that other bland grey-ish game" (Reach) like they did for the unique, never done before, original Halo, Halo game.

Try to fit "cliche" in there.

I'm fine with the way Halo's franchise played out. Bungie has completed their legacy, and now it's 343i turn. Now we will just have to wait and see how this will turn out. I hope H4 will knock my socks off.

  • 12.05.2011 4:03 PM PDT

If I could change a few things in Reach, it would be....

*Get rid of yoinking and medal ( yoinking is retarded )
*Force Bungie to work again and get rid of 343's existence
* A few other things

I like Reach. I love how much customization and the features it has. I thought the story was okay at best, and could have been better IMO. Things jumped around too much and we barely got ot know the characters much to care about them.

So yes, my opinion would be the same.
Agreed 100%

That's what "generic" means.

Ugh... Well... maybe.
I have decided that I legitimately do not like the bland art. I don't know if it's just in general, if it's against the series, or if it's because just about every game is doing it now (I LIKED IT when Gears 3 actually had some green in it!).

Maybe I wouldn't like Halo as much as I do without the Legacy. I dunno. I do know I would, at the very least, have fallen in love with the huge amount of customization we can do in this game. And the graphics (again, though not the art style so much). Gotta give it that at least. Oh, and music. Definitely that...

"Common" = "overdone to the point of losing effect"?

It could actually still very well be titled "Halo Reach."

Remember, all of the Legend of Zelda titles save for one actually center around the actual Legend of Zelda.

It could still be called "Halo Reach" because it could be used to start the "Halo" series.

And as such, you could do Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo: (Actual Title Instead of Number), and Halo: (Actual Title Instead of Number).

YES. I love all of the Halo games' music.

But, unfortunately again, I like the trilogy's (and ODST's<3) a lot better. I don't think the extreme changing of artistic styles is good for Halo, plain and simple. This isn't to say that change isn't welcomed - it just doesn't have to be so drastic.

Idk.. I don't think Halo was meant to go in this "semi-realistic war" genre. Ever.

Well, okay, there's a bit of a difference.

"Generic" means it's been done so many times before that it's boring when you see it for the upteenth time.

Kind of like slasher films.

True, so this debate is kind of pointless, but let us imagine

Halo: Reach would be a great foreshadow of the trilogy, especially with cut-scene at the end seeing Master Chief! That is a very good point. +1

Sometimes, I dream about cheese.

if reach was the first game then the HALO series wouldn't be as successful as it was during the HALO Combat Evolved and HALO 2 days. HALO 3 was a good game (not mind blowing like HALO 2) but it wasnt good enough to compete with the highly anticipated Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Gears of War...

How so?

Halo Reach, if it had come out in place of Halo CE, would have been the first console FPS to have regenerating health, loadouts, "perks" (major emphasis on the quotations), and online multiplayer.

ODST's is my favorite soundtrack of all time, of any game. I'll give it that much.

i see what you mean, but if it was the first game in the HALO series, it would be released aound the same time HALO Combat Evolved was released because HALO Reach is an Xbox 360 game, Xbox 360's came out in 2005.
