How so?

Halo Reach, if it had come out in place of Halo CE, would have been the first console FPS to have regenerating health, loadouts, "perks" (major emphasis on the quotations), and online multiplayer.
i see what you mean, but if it was the first game in the HALO series, it would be released aound the same time HALO Combat Evolved was released because HALO Reach is an Xbox 360 game, Xbox 360's came out in 2005.

But in Goat's scenario, there is no prior Halos to Reach.

If Reach came out now, in its current state, with no Halo games before it, it may have faired... decently.

If Reach had come out instead of CE back in 2001, it may have had the same impact as CE.

This is assuming of course none of the books had been released either.

That, the great campaign, and mind blowing firefight.

i dont think you understood what i meant but reach couldn't have been released for the Original Xbox because it's graphics are too good, file sizes too big etc.

i suppose it would be successful if it was released with Combat Evolved Graphics, Sound and split into 2 discs without live support (HALO Reaches maps suck anyway so it wouldnt last for long) but any installment added to the series after reach wouldn't be as good.
what im trying to say is hard to explain but the ideas they had for HALO 2 such as the new covies: brutes and drones, new vehicles such as gaus hog, scarab, new weapons: sword etc. are already in reach so thry would have to make up something else.

as you all know the quality of HALO games get worse in the later titles

Probably not, since i only play halo now just for the sake of being good at halo. My only goal is to get better than i am now. To have a sucessful online shooter multiplayer experience, the player must have goals

Well graphics and such of course would be downgraded for time difference.

However you can still expand even if say Brutes are in Reach, etc.

Or... Reach could have, y'know, followed the book.

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

I probably play it as much as I do.

REACH is still a great game, but I do hope Halo 4, is more like Halo 3, than REACH.

I would think this game is good.

But having older Halo titles being better in everything...

EGO mos bulla astrum.

I would enjoy Reach much more because I would not only have tryhards complaining about how the game isn't as "competitive" as others. It would also seem like the best and most original game I'd seen most likely.

All that is needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

The problem that people have with Reach is that it's not the same thing that they've been playing, it the originals never existed, people would love reach. Its that simple.

Yes. This is so true for me. Honestly, the soundtrack blew me away. I felt like Marty was really expressing himself with ODST's soundtrack.

No. The game would die because it isn't fun to play.

The story was also bland and didn't explain much like CE did.

It'd still be the most competitive FPS out there on the 360. CoD certainly isn't consistant enough to be competitive, and I don't think Crysis/Battlefield 3 are either.

Reach still has enough consistancy, accuracy, and a good enough netcode to keep more hardcore shooter fans coming back, especially me.

Hey guys, what if Reach didn't suck...would you like it?

I hate hypotheticals.

Personally I think Reach is a great game, I still play it the most of any of my games. So obviously this thread wasn't directed to me, but if Halo 1,2,3, and Odst never exsisted.....I would have never became a gamer.

I wouldn't have even considered it.

Halo brought me in with bright, contrasting colors and a unique color palette. That is what started my Halo experience, and without that I probably would have never even touched Halo.

If Reach was the first Halo, we'd have the same problem that Call of Duty has, in that the fact that such a little percentage of the population tries campaign that they have to put a 'reminder' that you should play the campaign before going to multiplayer. This is because, although the campaigns might be good/enjoyable, they are not inherently unique like Halo 1-3's campaigns were.

lol

OT: I probably wouldn't.

  • 12.05.2011 7:11 PM PDT

I wouldn't have even bought the game.

But that's because I came from playing on the Wii and PS3. Me buying Reach was simply me buying the newest version of one of the major exclusives for the 360. Just like one of you buying a ps3 and picking up Uncharted 3. Few people realize that a LOT of people who bought Reach are first timers- probably the reason why Reach even manages to have such a high population considering how badly it turned out.

Had Reach have been the first Halo, I would have thought "Hey, that's kinda cool" and skipped over it completely like I did Crysis 2 and many other supposedly good FPS out there. I bought Halo: Reach simply because it is Halo.
