Subject: How much do you care about Halo?

Greatest of all time

How much do you (the fans, the developers, etc.) care about Halo? This is a call to arms for the Halo community. Watch this video here or at least some of it: Competitive Halo is dying. Yes the game is immensely popular, but the competitive aspect of the game is slowly dying out.

There always seems to be animosity between casual players and competitive/eSports/MLG players. Why? We all have one thing in common: we love Halo. Casual players love Halo so much that they enjoy creating art and machinima videos using the game they love or perhaps they love forging or creating fun gametypes. Competitive players love Halo so much that they are willing to take time out of their day to watch professionals play or spend a weekend flying across the country to spectate or compete.

Halo has a community that is so divided that it is sickening to watch. Casual players hate on the competitive aspect of the game for no reason when the two should co-exist. If you love Halo, you should want to see the competitive aspect grow to the point where it has received recognition around the world. Just look at Starcraft's community. They are not divided on things like gametypes or whether the game should be geared toward casual or competitive players, they are divided on things like "Who is your favortie team?", "who is your favorite player?", or "What region has the best players: Korea, North America, or Europe?". That doesn't exist in Halo. Even bronze (the lowest rank in SC2) players can name their favorite team, player, and they tune into major events to support SC2 and watch it grow.

If you love Halo, you should support the competitive aspect of it rather than simply saying "They take it too seriously when they should be playing for fun". Halo: Reach was so detrimental to the competitive Halo community that it has lost its title as MLG's flagship game to SC2 and has less viewers than SC2, League of Legends, and Call of Duty. The Halo community needs to come together. MLG is doing the best the can, they love Halo just as much as the rest of you. They are constantly releasing content to try to gain support and put a spark in the community to get Halo back to where it once was.

I could keep going, but I'm going to leave this open for discussion and I want to end with a simply request. If you're competitive, casual, or don't care either way, just watch some MLG. Even if you watch just one game, tune in and see how much the community cares about this game. Even if you don't care about competitive Halo, just watch one game not to show support for competitive Halo, but for the game itself. We all love Halo and we all want to see it grow. If you don't want to see the eSports aspect of Halo grow, then shame on you. You have nothing to lose by tuning in to watch a ten minute game and show your support for the game you love so much.

I grew up watching MLG events and seeing Halo grow, I don't want to see the competitive aspect of the game die out. Show your support.

TL;DR so I'll just answer the title question.

I care about Halo, but as we all know Reach isn't Halo. So I don't care about that hence why I stopped playing it.

Yea the competitive side is dyeing. We SHOULD help.

I stopped playing too, but I still tuned in to watch a view games when MLG events were going on to show my support.

All I'm asking is to show support for the game, even if you think Reach isn't a real Halo game.

Your opinion is invalid.

I try so hard that I occasionally poop while playing.

RC Clone is the anti-thesis of a lurker.

My level of caring has definitely taken a severe hit with the release of Reach although my ignorance to the Halo community and gaming in general is at all time lows.

If you look at the graph to my right you can see we are expecting massive waves of care to be rolling in this Wednesday coinciding with my being on break between semesters.

Back to you Cynthia.

I agree.

I have strong faith that 343i is making what will be a good Halo game, and not an abomination like reach.

Member of team Master Theory.

17th Mythic Conqueror of Halo 3.
5th Mythic Conqueror of ODST.
If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

I keep wanting to watch the whole of the great debate but I keep remembering or being reminded a few minutes before logging off for the night.

Good thread Fourn, definitely not what I expected when I saw the title. I'll save the thread so I make sure to watch the debate tomorrow so thanks for linking it.

To the naysayers: everybody does play for fun even if they take the game too seriously in your opinion. Why can't we all appreciate what the whole community offers?

If I want to get better I can watch good gameplay there are top tier MLG streams to watch.

If I want to have a laugh I can tune in to some Red vs Blue.

If I want to admire the dedication of fans of the fiction I can look up all kinds of amazing props and such that have been created by the community.

If I want to consider the fiction more I can read novels, check out fan fiction and partake in theories and discussions about all sorts of elements of Halos story.

All together it's not just the "competitive community", the "Machinima community", "the fanfic community" etc. No, it's just the Halo community. We should forget our differences, accept that we all love the same game and appreciate that what we all bring to the community is different. All together we are one of the best gaming communities out there, but when we degrade each other and wilfully only stick to our own "clique" we just fragment the community. We're all guilty of it and it really should stop.

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

Not so much anymore. I played Reach for a while, got bored, played Halo 3 instead, got bored even faster, and so now I've gone through Dead Space 2, Assassin's Creed Revelations, and Prototype instead.

We'll see if 343 doesn't screw up and actually makes Halo 4 keep my interest.

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

I agree, the competitive side has been lost in Halo REACH.
Arena was the winning formula Bungie was hoping, but it failed. Many players including myself have played less than 5 games of Arena since the launch of REACH and many have played 0.

I think Halo should be both. I think the lack of non-ranked playlist, and a team of Randoms can be matched against a full team of 8 experienced players. Who destroy them. Are making people hate this game.

I think it be great if 343 can bring back Clans and the True Skill Ranking System for Halo 4.

Clans would be the anser to who is the best Clan. And Halo 4 needs to have 2 playlist, Ranked and Unranked, just like Halo 3.

They need to minimize the amount of playlist in Halo 4. I believe Halo REACH has too many playlist.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I will forge once in a while, and mostly play just to win, but recently, my trueskill went really high up and playing against onyxes in arena last season wasn't fun, and now I get to play against other silvers, and yay.

If I didn't care about Halo I wouldn't waste my time on B.net. I care about the franchise as much as a football fan cares about his team. It's been a big part of my life and I don't want to see that go down the drain. It's disheartening to see people you've enjoyed previous games with shy away from the newer installments. All those good times then just become memories...

I'll be making noise for Halo 4, but my Reach horn has tooted its last. If someone asked me to recommend them a game, I'll probably point them the route of Black Ops, since that's a game I genuinely enjoyed

You don't have to watch them or care, but don't needlessly insult them and undermine them at every oppurtunity simply out of pure spite.

Competitive elements only better a game, they have never diminished a game.

This.

You're on a game developer's website, it is a bit ironic to be calling someone else a nerd.

Like I said, you don't have to enjoy MLG, but you should enjoy the fact there are people out there who are working hard to make Halo more than just a game. If you love Halo (I'm assuming you do since you are on the developer's website), then you should support other people who love the game.

Yes i agree the competitive edge of halo is dying out. for example i played alot halo 2 almost exclusivly online and 3 online not as much as 2 tho! (this was on my old GT btw! :)) however reach iv noticed iv actually played alot of the campaign more and when i do play online iv noticed I prefer having a casual game with my friends than I do playing competivly online. Maybe its the diffrence in online play reach has to halo 2 & 3 I dno but i deffo want competive play to come back. Maybe there should be more incentives for winning or getting winning streaks? I dno but halo used to always be competitive and it should stay that way!!! :)
