How much do you (the fans, the developers, etc.) care about Halo? This is a call to arms for the Halo community. Watch this video here or at least some of it: Competitive Halo is dying. Yes the game is immensely popular, but the competitive aspect of the game is slowly dying out.
There always seems to be animosity between casual players and competitive/eSports/MLG players. Why? We all have one thing in common: we love Halo. Casual players love Halo so much that they enjoy creating art and machinima videos using the game they love or perhaps they love forging or creating fun gametypes. Competitive players love Halo so much that they are willing to take time out of their day to watch professionals play or spend a weekend flying across the country to spectate or compete.
Halo has a community that is so divided that it is sickening to watch. Casual players hate on the competitive aspect of the game for no reason when the two should co-exist. If you love Halo, you should want to see the competitive aspect grow to the point where it has received recognition around the world. Just look at Starcraft's community. They are not divided on things like gametypes or whether the game should be geared toward casual or competitive players, they are divided on things like "Who is your favortie team?", "who is your favorite player?", or "What region has the best players: Korea, North America, or Europe?". That doesn't exist in Halo. Even bronze (the lowest rank in SC2) players can name their favorite team, player, and they tune into major events to support SC2 and watch it grow.
If you love Halo, you should support the competitive aspect of it rather than simply saying "They take it too seriously when they should be playing for fun". Halo: Reach was so detrimental to the competitive Halo community that it has lost its title as MLG's flagship game to SC2 and has less viewers than SC2, League of Legends, and Call of Duty. The Halo community needs to come together. MLG is doing the best the can, they love Halo just as much as the rest of you. They are constantly releasing content to try to gain support and put a spark in the community to get Halo back to where it once was.
I could keep going, but I'm going to leave this open for discussion and I want to end with a simply request. If you're competitive, casual, or don't care either way, just watch some MLG. Even if you watch just one game, tune in and see how much the community cares about this game. Even if you don't care about competitive Halo, just watch one game not to show support for competitive Halo, but for the game itself. We all love Halo and we all want to see it grow. If you don't want to see the eSports aspect of Halo grow, then shame on you. You have nothing to lose by tuning in to watch a ten minute game and show your support for the game you love so much.
I grew up watching MLG events and seeing Halo grow, I don't want to see the competitive aspect of the game die out. Show your support.
