Yes I know, I'm a terrible person. I have never attempted to get the scarab gun after all these years. Maybe it's my lack of faith in myself or maybe I simply cannot be bothered to make a commitment, I don't know. Either way, I decided to try and get all of the achievements in Halo 2 Vista - one of which requires picking up the scarab gun :|

So H2F/Grumpy I ask you, which method do you guys/Grumpy find the easiest?

Personally I felt grabbing Sputnik then doing the rocket jump off the ammo box was easiest. Sadly enough there's no reward other than getting it seeing as though you have no enemies to use it on.

I got the Scarab gun with Grumpy's method of avoiding the critical loading zone.

Once you board and trigger the loading point, then you can get out of the small tunnel and shoot yourself with the Banshee bomb to blow off the wings, making it easier to fit in.

That's the easiest i think, but i get it the other way, the load zone isn't really hard to get.

True Chief - The reason I like the banshee besides being easy is you get the gun right away after the tunnel so you can fly back down and finish the mission with the gun starting at the first Wraith next to the half-dome amphitheater doohicky place.

I always did the trick where you blow up the banshee wings and board it in the pipes as soon as it said checkpoint. I have an account with that as its saved checkpoint so whenever I want to play with the scarab gun I don't have to put in the effort again.

Yeah, good point for whoever is going for the gun, make sure it's an extra profile and save that baby forever.

That's a good tip because I will try to do just that either today or tomorrow. I only got it once, and that was boring enough.

Using the Banshee trick is easy but it's just time consuming. It's worth it though once you acquire the Scarab Gun.

If you get the OS gun, can you carry it over to the next level? Because that's too awesome to imagine.

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Something I've learned from campaign tricking, glitching, strategies, etc. When you're doing stuff that takes a long time (i.e. Councilors army), you want the work to be convenient and timeless.

I'm going to see if I can delay the checkpoint to the Scarab gun. By repeatedly firing the Banshee's main gun.

Could you possibly go a little up the main tube towards the jackal and then hurry back, or would the banshee disappear or leave?

Man, we tried our asses off trying to figure a combination to get that gun to metropolis but we just couldn't make it happen.

Speaking of carry-over, today I carried a fuel-rod cannon from Arbiter to Oracle. Lol, I didn't know you could do that.

I had quite a bit of trouble with Grumpy's method. It took many tries for me to position the banshee so that only the left wing was in the shaft. When I finally got it in the correct position, I boarded it and spent another few minutes trying to maneuver myself up the shaft when all of a sudden - I exploded. After this I decided to try the boarding the banshee method and got it on my second try.

Regardless, thanks for the help guys.

Perhaps I wasn't being clear enough when I mentioned an easy solution for getting it through the small tunnel.

Once you have fitted the left wing in the tunnel and boarded the Banshee, move back rather than trying to squeeze through the tunnel, face the wall, and shoot yourself with the Banshee bomb until the wings come off.

Then you can just drive the Banshee through the tunnel.

I just tested checkpoint delaying. It didn't work. :(

just moving at normal pace firing Banshee gun - Failed
shooting Banshee gun then boosting then shooting then boosting etc. - Failed
cp delay by meleeing repeatedly - Failed

Getting the Banshee to chase me all the way to the area with the beam rifle crate is easy. I can get a cp at the first tunnel section (right before the first blockade with the 3 Jackals on it).

The real frustrating part is getting that Banshee into the small tunnel (left wing first). I'd have the damn gun under 4 minutes from my current starting point if it weren't for the Banshee being such a pain in the ass.

Lol, that's another reason I don't shoot the wings, sometimes that Banshee will go in the little tunnel to nowhere, and he never comes back out of that place.

That's happened to me a lot of times, but the time you put in to get the scarab gun is worth it. I wish that gun was on more levels or in the newer games.

Maybe there are undiscovered easter eggs like that in the other games, or would the modders spot something that big?
