Everything is proceeding as I have forseen.

I have been wondering what the relationship between humans and forerunners is i was thinking that the forerunners are sort of humanity's parent race this is supported whne the gravemid refers to chief as "child of my enemy".
What do you think flood (there's something ironic about this sentence :s)

Ancient humans fought the Flood; separetley from Forerunners.

********************** SPOILERS, BIG TIME *********************
Ancient humans went to war with flood and nearly eradicated them, but had to sacrifice 1/3 of their total population in the process. The Forerunners realized that the Ancient Humans were weakened (didn't know it was the flood or even know what the flood was at this point) used the opportunity to defeat and devolve the Ancient Human race (believed humans were too violent and too dangerous to continue) and scatter the human subspecies's to different worlds. The Ancient Human's technology rivaled that of the Forerunners before the devolving. After 300 years flood came back and toppled the Forerunners, realizing this is what the Ancient Humans were at war with before the Human v Forerunner war, they came to the conclusion that they had made a mistake in devolving the Human race. After this I'm a bit fuzzy but for some reason the Forerunners decided to name the Human race their successors. (that's why only humans can activate dormant forerunner tech, and "Reclaimer"/ Gravemind - sins of father = Ancient Humans almost wiping flood from existence.) woooaaa - (takes a breath)

The flood came 10,000 years later on resettled worlds and from outside the galaxy. The war was 300 years.

Didact and his wife must have found something out. Because there isn't any other rational reason.

Hmm seems like a place that should have been explained somewhere, that's a huge hole in the storyline.

Think thats what the forerunner saga/reclaimer trilogy are for.

  • 12.07.2011 3:06 PM PDT

I think it has something to do with the Mantle. I might be wrong but...

The Forerunners passed down their Mantle to Humans. They must have trusted Humans more then any other race. Humans were, still are, an aggressive and war hungry race. But they were still chosen as their successors. What reason they had to choose Humans is still to be revealed.

The biological similarity of the two species is uncanny... from what we've seen anyway. There's more between Humans and Forerunners. They could be the same species for all we know.

Why are you here?

oh woops... thanks for the correction,Do you know why the Forerunners decided to name the Human race its successors?

There could be another main reason, but i'm thinking being on the same Technological Tier could have contributed towards it, the Forerunners were aware they were practically equal.

Just to clarify the humans started stepping into forerunner regions of the galaxy and took a few of their worlds in order to get away from the flood and survive. Forerunner mistook it as an invasion (as anyone would) and taught humanity a lesson. Just wanted to point out that forerunner didnt just attack for no reason other then the suspicion of a war hungry race (which they were).

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

The Forerunner probably chose us because we beat the Flood once and probably couldn't -blam!- up as badly as they did.

When you have a deep rivalry with somebody, have avoided them for decades and the suddenly appear at your door do you kick them in the balls?

That is what the forerunners did. They (and people here) speak so highly of themselves and this arbitrary mantle yet they de-evoled humanity the first chance they got and would have killed them if they didn't know the cure.

If they were truly just they would have let humanity claim a few out of their MILLION worlds and try to find out why they are appearing. Not only that they wouldn't de-evolve them or make it clear that they are only keeping them alive for the cure.

I honestly do not understand why people are still talking about this "mantle" when the forerunners clearly tampered with it and abused the hell out of it.

The U.E.S.C. Marathon emblem that appears on my profile was designed by me and picked by Bungie [Bungie All-Star competition] to be available for use by anyone on the Bungie forums.
"Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild"

Mega super amazing spoilers!! [If your about to read Cryptum]

So this is a 100k years before the events of the Halo trilogy.

The Forerunners practically destroyed humanity because the humans were taking over the forerunner owned planets.
Later on the forerunners realized that humanity had no other choise at that time since it was fighting a war against the flood, losing alot of humanites colonies.

The Forerunners felt guilty for destroying the humans and savaged a few of them to keep alive. Another reason was to study the humans since humans actually developed a cure against the flood. Hoping that something could've been learned from the humans.

The reason humans were selected as the "reclaimers" was due to forerunners seeing alot of potential and similiarities to themselves in humans. And the forerunners thought that if there was another similiar outburst like the flood ever again, that humanity was the only race strong enough to withstand its might. After all, the humans were the only race to discover the cure against the flood. Knowledge wiped out because of the Forerunners.
