Subject: Try Xbox.com

I have been seeing this response quite a lot on The Flood, people have a question, and someone replies, "try xbox.com" and someone quotes that with "No, that's a shock site, try xbox.com". It's off-topic and spam, yet no-one gets banned from it?

Edit: This includes: "cool story bro", "inb4" and "lolreach".

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Actually, xbox.com is the best one to go to. That aside though, I do agree that it's spam and is bannable. I've seen a few instances where people were banned for it, but it really depends on which moderators are on and what their mood is like.

Edit: Of course there are other variables like ban history, post history, and the extent of the meme.

Carpe Diem - Carpe Coffee

Astronomy Picture of the Day!

The same could be said for "blame stosh" replies, and other various one-liner inside jokes that run rampant in this forum. I honestly don't mind posts like that because they are easy to ignore if I don't want see them, and I really don't know if they are worth the moderator's time to deal with when there's a plethora of other things posted that are much more malicious.

Either way, it's all just up to the moderator who stumbles upon them as to what happens next. You're never going to get a unanimous fate for things like that since every punishment on this site is just a judgment call, and the moderators are bound to have differing opinions from time to time.

And if it's helpful and related, (XBox problems) no need for it otherwise.

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

As you waste your breath complaining about life, Someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have.

They would be banned forever if they picked up everything like that.

Personally i hate seeing that arrow to the knee crap but i just have to deal with it.

O your gona hate me then..

But on topic yes it could be considered spam but it depends on the context. As such it's at the discretion of the mod who sees it.

That being said if you wan't to bring it to there attention report the post and they will take a look at it, and see if it's worth a ban or removal.

I meant banning not banned, typo.

I mean the moderators would be banning basically everyone and have little time to do anything else on the site.

Yeah, but maybe if it was against the rules, it wouldn't happen as people would be scared of being banned.

Yeah, but maybe if it was against the rules, it wouldn't happen as people would be scared of being banned.
It didn't work before when we had the old rules that basically listed every violation ever.

The old rules were counter-productive, which is why they were changed.

If people really had a problem with it, we'd see it in the queue. I never see these in there though..ever.

Try xbox.com

...they have strict rules and moderators who enforce them, I've never seen any of these memes there.

Makes sense. The greatest moderating tool that anyone can have is the report button. If you see something you don't like, report it and someone else will take care of it for you.

I find it really annoying when people have a problem and someone posts "try xbox.com" and then someone posts a irrating response. I understand that not all spam can be dealt with. But if we can deal with most of it, it won't happen.

  • 12.07.2011 11:28 AM PDT

I'm better than you :P

People saying "Try Xbox.com" to everything like you said should get banned. No questions asked.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I'm going to get in on this topic before someone trolls it. This is really a cool, somewhat even interesting story/situation. But bro, you should be mad really, at all... Your best bet would be to try Xbox.com.

Though in all honesty, does someone posting something stupid affect you? If someone is able to help you, or willing to reply, they will... And those who won't, well some will say something for the sake of saying it. Being bitter about someone being a tad foolish, as so much to make a thread about it, tells me you need to just relax and learn to ignore the small things. They'll only affect you as much as you're are currently letting them, if you let them.

Giggity Giggity Goo - Quagmire

I think there should be repercussions for people saying it in the threads that have nothing to do with an Xbox. Pretty much all I do is go on the Flood and I see it all too much.

An example is-

My computer keeps restarting itself, how do I fix this?

"Try Xbox.com."

Wait, so Shishka wasn't really that big of an ass, he just posted like he was?

I disappeared for a time from this site because I honestly felt like that if a mod didn't like you, you were banned(I only had one I remember though). I come back a few months ago and see spam everywhere! Everywhere! I did it once....BANNED! LOL! While the memes and in jokes can get repetitive(in the knee) I don't feel like the site is overrun with it. If anything the jokes help make threads that have no meaning or purpose entertaining.

I've seen the mods join in the xbox.com frenzy. I think it's funny to be honest. Plus, I really hate when people complain about spam. To me, spam is just linking advertisements everywhere. You shouldn't ban people for having a little bit of fun.

It's just a meme, it doesn't mean anything. If you really have a problem with it, just report all those posts.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

This is Bungie.net, no fun is allowed here. You've been here long enough to know that.
