There's nothing to try out for unless you want to try to get on a team to compete at the MLG events.

You can simply play the playlist, which use the settings MLG uses or you can sign up on Gamebattles and compete for free there, in 1v1s, 2v2s or 4v4s, just to see how you fair against others and to improve yourself.

Using gamebattles can also find you teammates that you'd like to compete with at a live event.

MajorLeagueGaming are employing a try-out system for Reach in order to avoid people utilising the MLG playlist to grief professional players.

In order to apply for the MLG playlist, you must first pass a series of checks in relation to your trueskill in other competitive playlists. Players who are relatively proficient in Living Dead, SWAT and Grifball I have noticed are looked upon favourably.

As above said though just start playing the playlist, you don't have to be on a team or anything but try to have a mic and learn to call out, work as a team, communicate with your teammates etc..

That type of attitude won't help Halo grow in competitive gaming, nor will it help in keeping Halo on the circuit.

The competitive community is too stingy to allow others become a part of the competitive aspect. Starcraft 2 has already taken halo's place as the flagship title and nothing is going to change that because Starcraft 2 is recognized as an international E-Sport. Name one country other than U.S. that has a gaming league that as big as MLG that supports Halo?

None, yes Halo is played in Europe and Australia, but it doesn't provide its players an actual income enough to live off playing the game. And their gaming leagues are undoubtedly much smaller than MLG. The competitive community is to blamed for always secluding the casual gamers from entering the competitive side.

As it is currently the only way to become pro is to dedicate a significant portion of your life to gaming. HerbalWalnut states a very valid point.

No doubt Halo lacks in many areas but I was merely trying to point out that acting towards a newcomer, wanting to get into MLG is not going to help in anyway.

Halo's community acts the worst out of all of them, especially towards newcomers or "casuals", its not open arms and friendly, so why should they stick around to even watch? Why would they support MLG when they get treated the way they do?

Simple answer is, they won't stay around.

Reach is lacking in views and teams participating, for a multitude of reasons. One of the reasons why views are lacking(other than the fact the game is boring to watch, even to MLG fans) is that its not visually casual friendly. The game we're playing is so different to what they play in matchmaking, they have no idea what they're looking at, so why watch something you don't understand? You wouldn't.

Chasing off newcomers (something MLG Halo doesn't really have currently) is not a good idea and will continue to hurt it.

So no, I'll have to disagree with Herbal having a good point.

Also I have no clue why you're trying to teach me anything about MLG, specifically Halo. I'm defiantly not someone who needs to be taught anything, I'm well aware of everything that goes on.

This is not always the case, even most of the PROs can take time for themselves and return to normal PRO level after a break in play. BlackJack Halo 2 PRO rated player lives in my area and when he played at a PRO level he only played maybe every other day.

Some people just have it and some simply don't. It's more that just playing the game hundreds of hours on end, it's the mind set, finger control and team work.

If you are looking to get into anything MLG you need to do two things. Keep playing (never know who you'll play with) I don't play Reach must but I came across the Orges, Twlight, Mantrain and others just playing MM. I played one perfect game with randoms in a MM game when Orge 1 was in the room. I got invited into a FFA game. <-- Being good at the right time is how you get into the MLG community. Also, go on THEIR forums, not here.

  • 12.07.2011 12:05 PM PDT

Lol

I'm trying to teach you that Halo is already lost in terms of E-sports. Even if Halo 4 brings back the old days of aiming skill domination (CE and Halo 2), it won't bring back the population that is lost. MLG's halo community pissed off the majority too much and now will pay the price. So in all honesty people should stop caring about trying to go pro in a game that will most likely no longer exist at tournaments.

It pains me to see Halo die off like this, all because we refused to change our ways of thinking.

You do realize that a lot of people back then didn't even know about MLG and the economy wasn't the way it is now. Now since MLG provides contracts etc. the amount of competition has improved much greater than it was during Halo 2's era. With more competition comes more work and effort to put into the game. And of course means more time required to play. That's just plain common-sense.

As bad as the OPs record looks, it is true that Halo's MLG needs all the attention and love it can get. New players may not have the "stuff" but all the fans Halo can get are good for it.

It's a good franchise and I think Reach deserves to last. I don't know about you by I have had tons of fun in it and I know others who have too. I'd love to see it get some love until Halo 4 comes out.

May just be the simple reality of it, Halo is not a game that can become an esport, nor will it get enough audience to hold tournaments.
