The middle class was seemingly in control for Reach (from a gameplay standpoint, not a design standpoint), and it turned out poorly.

I'd disagree on the basis that if some average Joe ran a country without any advisors, it would be in a mess almost immediately.

OMFG DOOD MY SCHOOL HAS 4000 KIDS AND LIKE 50% ARE BLACK, THEY ALL DO THIS ITS SO FKN ANOOYING. IT MAKES ME WANT TO PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE BUT IM AFRAID CUZ THEY'RE BLACK.

Well. I agree. There's a reason Reach didn't do too well, and that's because it appealed to neither type of player. If it appeals to the middle, then it's more likely to actually keep a strong population (see Halo 3).

I think your definition of middle is skewed.

Reach failed because Bungie sold out, they catered the entire game completely towards casuals to get as many initial sales as possible because their contract was going to be over. They abused Halo's name and the reputation its gained through the years, again to get more sales.

Well how is getting a bigger player base bad you ask? It wouldn't be bad (in fact it would have been a good thing) if the game actually held your interest, was enjoyable, had replay value but it doesn't do any of that.

It failed as a competitive game, it failed as a casual game because there are better casual games out there and it failed as a Halo game.

Reach is not getting any new fans, it chased away a crap ton of its old fans. Bungie got as many initial sales as they could and didn't care what happened to it because their contract was going to be over. Its a "nice business move" for a company that will no longer be in control over their IP anymore.

They sold out, end of story.

How I kill? Simple effective Head shots and Beat downs. My newest favorite saying? Bullet meet head, head meet bullet. I would love to say this to a current telemarketer. I now have come up with Operation Laser. Operation Laser is the basis of basic lasering. Spartan Lasers ftw!

I think that applies to politics a lot better than Reach. Reach needs to grab EVERYONE'S attention in order for it to have better population rates.

I think the best example of middle class would be a player like me.

If you think this, you are very much misinformed. That being said, I would not be opposed to players like you having their ideas implemented.

Well for the sake of the thread, the same concept applies. In all reality, my peers and I would be in the upper echelon of Halo players, but when the game loses its appeal to that player base, that's when you know the game has problems.

I don't think a metaphor is being used correctly when you have redefine the words being used in it.

OT:
Yeah. This game failed to keep the interest of its base. It needed to have a good central default settings so they could be moved around slightly in different areas to please both kinds of players.

Lets hope the next one is better and if not quit Halo with dignity.

Reach was made for the "Living Dead" kind of player.
The problem is that there are other games that are much more appealing for those people like Cod.

The Circuit Pros are Bill Gates. Lots of money. Money everywhere.

You're more like a television personality. No millions, but a steady income of $500,000 isn't middle class.

Member of team Master Theory.

17th Mythic Conqueror of Halo 3.
5th Mythic Conqueror of ODST.
If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

I understand your point but I don't think you clarified enough:

In Truly's original post he means that the "upper class" are the players who are heavily invested in the game because it's in their best interests to be so. Players who are good enough to get sponsorships & advertising deals, win tournaments, and make money from playing the game.

Then the lower class is your player who just plays the game because he or she enjoys it. This kind of player very rarely tries to break the game down and likely doesn't visit online forums. Typically they play very casually and aren't likely to stay hooked on any one game for any great length of time (years for example).

The middle class in this scenario is your player who is dedicated enough to either the game or the franchise to make their opinions heard via forums. It's not hard to spot that these players have varying skill levels but very few of them stray into either the lower or upper class in this scenario. They may not always agree with each other but a lot of the time some of the most logical posts will come from this group. These are the players who dissect various elements of the game and try to suggest improvements.

Now, provided the middle class are catered to with a range of features which satisfy their expectations it's quite likely that the upper and lower classes can find satisfaction in the product too.

Anyway, it's a long, drawn out metaphor but it makes sense in a round-about way.

No. We, as a forum community would be the middle class. Do you see actual pros come on here to give feedback? I sure haven't. They are usually on the MLG forums hoping they do something about it.

This game went to the poor so they can easily get rich.

LOL, real rap is not made for you, white people.

We don't expect you to "get it." And you don't, as you've made abundantly clear through your numerous embarrassing dances, karaoke performances, ignorant haters, and pitiful imitators.

You giving your opinion on rap is like a dog watching TV. It's kind of cute because it LOOKS like he knows what's going on, but you know he really has no actual ability to comprehend it.
