Maybe you haven't noticed, but a beretta 9mm and the pistol from Halo operate on exactly the same principles. Same goes for the BattleRifle and an M16. In fact the MA5B AR uses the same size ammunition as the FN FAL Assault Rifle of Today. It's only difference is the bullpup design and the futuristic look. If someone were to use an M16 in Halo, they'd fair no better or worse than someone using the AR.
the beretta and the M6D are both sidearms, that is true, but the beretta fires a puny 9mm round, when converted to imperial measurements, is a .354 cal. round. the M6D fires a .50 cal. round. thats a half an inch diameter round for the M6D, the same diameter as the round the chain gun on the LAAG 'hog shoots. so pull out your ruler and compare half an inch to .354 of an inch, and look at the difference. i'd pick the M6D any day of the week, and twice on sundays.
i can understand your comparison of the BR and the m16, as they are very similar. but comparing the MA5B and the m16 disgraces the name of m16. the m16 fires a very accurate and hard-hitting 5.56 mm round, while the MA5B fires a comparatively weak, but larger 7.62 mm round. (the 7.62 mm round is the caliber used by NATO, (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) so all countries in the treaty use the standard 7.62 mm round.
the m16 is in every way more similar to the BR55 than the MA5B.
the m16 has a fire select of single shot, 3-round burst, or full auto. the BR55 uses a 3-round burst, and the MA5B uses full auto. the BR55 fires a 9.95mm round, (thats .39173228605 cal. in imperial, roughly .40 cal on your ruler, slightly smaller than the colt 1911 .45 cal. round). the BR55 round is muchbigger than the m16 and the MA5B.
if a m16 was used in halo, it would probably fare as well as the BR, except for the lack of 5.56 mm ammo for the m16 in the halo universe, 500 years in the future.
