Try searching around Download.com.

They might have something there that can convert the WAV file.

Using the actual Halo chords is not allowed, you can get pretty close though.

Well listen to this middle-eatern sounding Halo song:
www.andrewmatlock.com/music/Andrew%20Matlock%20-%20Weapons%20 Locker.mp3

It uses the exact notes from A Walk in the Woods (save one or two notes), but is a completely different song unto its own which uses the original as a compliment.
Let me know the final verdict!

Could you perhaps provide a working link? I tried to take out the breaks but that didn't help either...

I think that would work. I dont see it evading any rules.

Above won't work, can't fix it, won't let me. Keeps resetting to the original (flawed) version of my post. Perhaps the below will redeem my post.

A guess not. I'm just going to leave it.

And yes, I can see the problem is the space in the word 'weapons', but I'm unable to edit it out.

You need to add in "http://www.<Insert Link>"

It'll be something like:

(Yes, I know you have to remove the space).

I Hope You Can See This Because I'm Doing It As Hard As I Can!

on that note...

can we use (if we play the piece) can we use Halo's actual theme in it
the "ahhhhhhhh ah ah Ah ah ahhh" monk chant?

I actually made a halo "tekno" remix on my soundclick
http://www.soundclick.com/djkevon

which i used no samples
i played everything on keyboard

so basicly, i'm asking can we use bits from the game
AS LONG AS WE PLAY THEM OURSELVES??

because the intro halo piece is really a major part
of halo itself

Do I retain publishing rights?

In general it's hard to get excited about this when there is no indication of what the point is, or how much money the winner gets. Why should we go through the effort to create something great?

Yes, you can keep publishing rights of course. We aren't out to use the pieces we receive.

For clarification, the point of this competition is to show other people your work, to show them what you can do and to appreciate others' work. Regrettably, I am un-aware of the prize sum, however i'm sure we could find out a rough estimate for you all at some point. Why should you go through the effort? So you can participate in something different. So you can show us your genius, flare, talent and passion and so you can work at something you enjoy doing. It's just like any competition; it's not about the winning, but the taking part.

You can use small bits....just not a big chunk.

I own a program called Acid Pro 4, you can check the stuff out here: www.acidplanet.com. But it's a loop-based program. I have downloaded others' royalty free loops, but I was wondering if that would still pose a problem.

In other words, am I allowed to use loops to mix a song?

Say one has a keyboard, and also say that the one with the keyboard also has a camera which could record audio. Could this one compose a piece, play it on the keyboard, record it with the camera, and send it in as an entry?

Here's what I think about this contest:

-It's a GREAT idea.

-It would become even a BETTER idea if cash prizes were announced BEFORE people started their compositions.

-It would become an EPIC idea if Bungie used the winning piece to either use in a videogame, or on a sound track (in which case, the winner would have to send a copy of the full score upon finding out that his/her piece won).

For those of you who spent hours in organizing this contest, wouldn't it be really smart to try to convince Bungie to use the winning piece in a videogame or in a Halo soundtrack in order to boost this competition's integrity and popularity?

Please just TRY to convince Bungie, that the best way to please Bungie fans is to have Bungie fans REPRESENTED in a videogame/soundtrack. After all, you spent so much effort into organizing it for the fans of Bungie and Halo, so why not put in a little more effort, and push this competition to a whole new level.

You are allowed to use whatever you have in your house hold. That includes a camera and a keyboard. Just try your best to convert the file into a MP3 format.

You don't have to sign up to any website to submit a piece of work.

You just email either a link to an offsite location to your work or you can send it as an attachment to 7thcolumncontests@gmail.com.

I Hope You Can See This Because I'm Doing It As Hard As I Can!

but in the rules it says:
Participants must be a member of B.net prior to the start of the contest

does this mean bungie.net or some other site?
i'm linked to bungie.net (of course) but i just wanna make
sure everything is good

also i didn't follow the rules on sending my piece
in the subject line I put: My Halo Theme Submission
instead of "music contest"
is this ok?

'B.net' refers to this site (www.bungie.net), yes. Since you already a member of it, don't worry.

The labelling is perfectly ok. We simply asked that so we could have everything labelled nicely and so we could easily determine which emails were for the contest. So again, do not worry about this. However, for others, please try to remember this; just don't wildly panic about it to the point of insanity.
