Subject: Who do you prefer as the greatest hero from the halo franchise?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Noble 6? LOL, NO.

Master Chief. How could somebody consider anybody else? He's the face of Halo.

Medicant Bias.

I disagree. While the Flood were a big threat without MB, it was he who lead the millions of ships to try and barge through the 'Maginot line', effectively causing the Forerunner's demise.

Saving a few doesn't make up for betraying and causing the 'somewhat' extinction of your own species (He's an AI, but I think of him as Forerunner regardless).

I wouldn't say anyone is the 'greatest hero'. Everyone played their part; MB, Cortana, Miranda, Johnson, MC, even Hood.

and to butt in with the conversation above.
"The path ahead is frought with peril, but I will do what I can to keep it stable, to keep you safe.
I always thought this was metaphorical. Preluding to something after Halo 3.

I still don't see what Mendicant Bias has done to be heroic other than help the Chief out a bit at the end. Please enlighten me. Saying 'he sent John to the Forerunners' doesn't count because we still don't know anything about how that'll turn out, and right now its only impact has been negative as I said earlier.

Imagination isn't relevant like majority of the sentences in your posts. Why does it matter to you if I Prefer Bias to be the greatest hero in the franchise? This is an opinion thread therefore you shouldn't be trying to argue an explanation out of me.

True. I used to be tolerant of others' opinions even when wrong.

... then I took an arrow to the knee.

Trying to insinuate something? I wouldn't even bother trying to explain it to you. We do not think alike whatsoever, you base things off imagination and fun. Does not compute for me.

agreed six only brought Cortana to the Autum and never fought on the ring. the master chief is the main hero. he finished the fight and wiped the flood on the Ark.

It is. I find fun in concepts and logic, just because you can't understand doesn't make it anyless normal.

My money is one the Assembly as a whole. They are willing to make the hard choices for the good of humanity. They were willing to sacrifice so many people if it meant us coming through in the end. Thanks to them we became our own species. If it wasn't for them we would have become like the Covenant; reliant on Forerunner technology. Had they not we would not have built our own empire from the ground up, we would have built it upon the ruins of the Forerunners. They are anti-heroes at best, war-criminals at worst. But they did it for the greater good.

Why do you feel like you have to justify what you do as 'normal'? Christ mate, have a bit of individuality. In a world painted in streaks of black and white, a bit of colour is never a bad thing.

TBH it can apply as a literal thing with the platforms and an element of foreshadowing for Halo 4.

Honestly, if you'd said MB wasn't a hero I'd have argued he is.

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

I would say Chief is the greatest hero.

Except Bungie wasn't planning Halo 4 when they made that line. If they didn't want to continue the series why put foreshadowing for the next game in? You can argue that Bungie meant it to mean the Legendary Planet but I felt that they intended to leave the ending ambiguous and open to imagination.

They did begin planning Halo 4 before they decided to make Reach, they drew up concept art of a Forerunner Promethean and had an idea for the story going but scrapped the idea because of the baggage that would ultimately come with it being their last game.

Which brings up the question "why are you trying to argue with somebody in a thread clearly deemed for opinions"?

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Chief's pretty great when he has others around him to give him a hand, so I don' consider him the greatest.

I'm going with the Didact because he more closely follows the monomyth or hero's journey.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

There are not many strong heroes in Halo in my opinion. Whitcomb or Captain Keyes maybe. Cole would have been my first choice if not for the heavy implication that he is a traitor.

The Spartans are not very good Hero material in my opinion because they are so detached from the rest of Humanity. It is only in 2552 that Chief learns to separate his actions from being done in the name of orders to viewing them in the name of doing something for Humanity. Also, he and the other Spartans essentially being indoctrinated leaves it impossible to know what their own moral choices would have been in life.

Edit: New thought over my old. Some Covenant characters like Thel or Rtas could be, given how they changed their actions having been exposed to the truth. They made better choices given the chance. It would be easier to ignore the truth and bury your head, rather than risk your peoples extinction and call it out. Though I am still not sure yet if they should be called "Heroes" per say, due to their previous actions.

Five exclamations marks are a good signifier of an insane mind. As is trying to hide from Death in an airtight room. Silly wizard.

Cortana. Chief may have won the war but without Cortana guiding him would he have known to detonate Autumn's reactor? Would he have been able to escape from High Charity? Without Cortana Chief would have activated Halo after the Library, if he could even get that far. Chief won the war, but without Cortana he would have died, possibly taking everything in a 25000 lightyear radius along with him.

I want to go with any of the main protagonists, but actually I'm going to say the Spec Ops Leader(please help me with his name). Arbiter would have never survived on Delta Halo and Earth would have been overrun by The Flood if he hadn't showed up with his fleet in a timely manner. If it weren't for him, Arbiter and Chief would have never been able to finish the fight. Plus, he appears to be a major part in the recovery of the Sanghelli after breaking away from the Covenant, so he gets bonus points as well.
