On another note, I find Ackerson a little annoying.

And a royal dick. I mean, Traviss should've given him some harsher words than Halsey.

You not read Uprising? Sure, he did some bad things but at the very end redeemed himself immeasurably.

You have to be kidding me if you are say that made of for everything he did. In that case halsey is clear also then; because if she didn't kidnap kelly then a large covenant armada wouldn't have been nuked by kurt.

There is no way in hell that clears ackersons name.

Halo 3 is where the morons of the universe congregates.

I am thinking of an old story. "Three Billy Goats Gruff" (hint the troll dies at the end)

sometimes its just safer to be near the other team

I am a Halo Enthusiest that loves to talk about the universe. Though I may not be the best multiplayer, I play for the fun and the unforgettable moments. If you play for a good time and for a little competition, then im your guy.

The Prophets... Their voice can be very annoying when hearing it throughout the game in Halo Three. They also sounded retarded when using them on the battlefield in Halo Wars.

He's no saint, but he wasn't a bad person. Exactly the same as Halsey -- they had to be pragmatists in order to help win the war. What they did wasn't right, but it was necessary.

But when the smoke and fire clears, someone has to answer for the men who lost their lives putting the flames out.

Ackerson would be in the same situation as Halsey right now if it weren't for one crucial thing which means that he will be viewed in an entirely different light;

He died, fighting the Covenant.

He wasn't a bad person yet the SIIIs are suicide soldiers that he cared nothing about and even wanted his own personal army. not to mention he would have killed chief if he could have to undermine halsey.

The SIIIs didn't need to be suicide soldiers; seeing how NOBLE team got Mark V so easy at least a few spartans in each group could have gotten it. Not to mention if they have the money to make Mark VII,the SIV project and infinity they had more than enough money to better equip the SIIIs.

  • 12.13.2011 7:50 AM PDT

I agree with Grey101 in the sense that John-117 was the most average. Kurt was the best leader, Noble Six was most hyper-lethal, Linda best sniper...etc.

So wait, I must ask, who was the other hyper-lethal vector? Was it Kurt? Johnson?

To be on topic, my vote honestly would have to go to the Sword Base announcer. Holy frack I just wanted somebody to shut that dude up...

- People change; thirty years passed between a younger, vain and pre-first contact Ackerson wanting to get the better of a rival and him dying. I'm sure in the later years he regretted what he did -- I could swear I read something to that effect, maybe in Ghosts of Onyx.

- Mark V wasn't even around then, it was Mark IV. It was only around the time of Reach that Mark V began circulating, and it's still absurd that a bunch of SIIIs would get it a few days before the leader of the Spartan IIs and head of the UNSC's Spartan propaganda machine. Also Reach is terrible, breaks canon (even with 343i's patching) and although it's officially canon I don't think it's too reliable.

- I won't get into the finance aspect of it all because we don't know enough about what all those things cost or how ONI were able to afford it.

- Never saw anything about Ackerson not caring about the SIIIs; we're never given his POV in the books, so everything we see about the man is how others perceive him. For all we know after the board meetings which he keeps a stoic face in he goes home with tears in his eyes at the thought of all those kids dead.

There is nothing in GoO even implying that, as he says is that he is trading lives for time. Ackerson didn't change because he had no reason to, the Spartan IV project was going to have halsey working under him, which says enough.

Regardless, more Spartan IIIs should have gotten Mark V or Mark IV. Both would have helped far more than SPI armor.

Confusion. So we clearly see that halsey cares about the SIIs through her actions yet we cannot say that for ackerson? He was ecstatic about creating more and more spartans he didn't care for them as humans whatsoever.

No reason to change? A -blam!- alien collective intent on our genocide might make someone pause and look at themselves for a second, you know. Why wouldn't he have Halsey work under him -- she proved herself unreliable and would probably serve better as a subordinate anyway, where Ackerson has proved himself as a strong leader and director -- he's not a Colonel because he owns a chain of fried chicken stores, you know.

Regardless, more Spartan IIIs should have gotten Mark V or Mark IV. Both would have helped far more than SPI armor.

Why? It's incredibly expensive and SIIIs aren't that much better than your ordinary soldier -- to outfit every single company with Mark IV would be astronomical in cost; SIIs are leaps and bounds above SIIIs in ability, so obviously they get the newest armour straight out of the labs. You might as well be asking why all ODSTs don't get a power-suit of some variety.

Confusion. So we clearly see that halsey cares about the SIIs through her actions yet we cannot say that for ackerson? He was ecstatic about creating more and more spartans he didn't care for them as humans whatsoever.

Thanks for starting off your paragraph like an Elcor, it was helpful. Halsey cares more for her SIIs than Ackerson his SIIIs, of course. That doesn't mean Ackerson doesn't feel guilt or shame or grief whenever he sees that hundreds of kids have died because of his project, even if it did buy humanity a few more grains of sand in the hourglass.

We can do this all night, grey. I'd rather not.

I don't get what you are saying since the SIIIs were created for the pure purpose of fighting the covenant. So you talking about ackerson "changing" isn't adding up since he didn't do anything different with any of the groups.

You do understand i mean outfitting them with the no longer used Mark IV right? It shouldn't cost money to give something that isn't used. As for Mark V i am saying if ALL of NOBLE team go it then it shouldn't have be hard to re-route just a few sets to the other spartan IIIs. By Time Mark VI was out it shouldn't have been hard to give the new SIIIs the old armor.

Actions speak louder than words. If he felt bad he wouldn't want a private personal army nor would he want his own grim reaper.

I still don't understand where halsey messed up. So her kidnapping kids under government authority is "wrong" yet ackerson asking 3-5 year old kids who have no idea what they are getting into is right? As for the cloning all of that is hyped up by karen, one parent isn't going to magically put all the pieces together when they are spread so far apart.

  • 12.13.2011 8:24 AM PDT

I think your problem is that you believe something immediately if you read it. 'Ackerson's private army' and 'Grim Reaper' are prime examples of this; this was from someone else's perspective, not his own, nor was it from someone especially close to Ackerson so they can't understand his motives -- such comments were probably borne out of jealousy, suspicion, ignorance or misunderstanding.

No, I didn't understand you meant give them the defunct Mark IV because as I've said, you're not the clearest writer in the world. But there wouldn't have been that much Mark IV, and then you have the issue of who should get it and which companies should get it -- a key concept of the SIII program was that they would act as a unit, weak alone but powerful together; give some of them better armour than others and that morale vanishes. Also I still think Noble team was absurd and don't believe that a Spartan III should be able to handle MJOLNIR; Reach is just full of inconsistencies and canon-breaking moments so I still hold that idea even in light of it.

You're missing what I'm saying (again...); both of them did terrible things. Here's the thing; Halsey survived kidnapping key military assets and taking them out of the fight in a vital time -- Ackerson died in war, a hero and martyr.

Who do you think will be looked upon kindlier with that in mind?

What the hell? Why would i have a reason not to believe that since it isn't out of his character at all and when it was stated that what he was trying to do? Why would you say i "immediately believe something when I see it" when I clearly state that that what karen writes about halsey isn't true at all.

It doesn't matter how little of it there was he still could have given them what he could. He didn't do everything he could have for the SIIIs, if they had better armor they would have survived more engagements on that alone.

The reason Ackerson isn't getting flak is because he did exactly what he was ordered to do and nothing else. Halsey acted like a human if not a mother and she is now paying the price for that. Not to mention people fear her intelligence thus they need to keep her down.

Still, to Gazas, it's that old concept of either cracking a joke and trying to keep sane, or do nothing and possibly turn into a useless mental wreck.
Quite honestly I'd rather have him say nothing and turn into a useless mental wreck xD
Edit: Also, comment from a real life vet. Soldiers bull-blam!-/joking in combat is common.
So I've heard, and I'm all for jokes, I like a lot of their lines in ODST and it doesn't bother me too much, but I simply think that Mickey is annoying sometimes, actually, that line alone ticked me off because I thought it was so unfunny. (Your mama never loved you and she dresses you funny!) It's painful to hear that line when you're raided with Brute Shots rounds. But Mickey does have some lines that I like so...

I did read Uprising. He essentially sacrifices Cleveland. It bought the UNSC some breathing room, but that doesn't really excuse him for what he's done.

I don't care at all what you think about Reach one way or the other. I've seen that you can debate it intelligently and raise fair points (even if I don't agree with any of them at all), but more often than not you come across blindly hating Reach because of how you word your posts. Most of the time they come across sounding as if you believe your opinion on the matter is absolute and everyone else should agree with you.
